Blind's already pointed out that 95% of cultures aren't represented.
Just wanna reinforce the point with an example: bạn might say "Oh African culture doesn't get represented enough". And you'd be right but also wrong on one point, because there's not one "African culture". Africa is the most culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse region in the world. Take a look at
link. Each of those ethnicities are likely as culturally different to each other as European countries are to each other. Not one of them gets represented in được ưa chuộng media.
Another example: besides Borat, do bạn EVER hear anything about Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan, Kyrzygstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan?
EDIT example 3: Not only does "Pakistani culture" not get represented, but it's sorta mental how many cultures there are
within Pakistan. We don't realise due to map distortion, but the country's as big as half of Châu Âu and has thêm ethnicities. I put together a small graphic here
link India even thêm so. Fun fact about India: North Indian languages are thêm closely linguistically related to Swedish, English, Greek, French (which are part of the "Indo-European" language family) than they are to South Indian lanaguges (which are part of the Dravidian language family).
NB. I don't think Westerners, particularly Westerners from colonised "New World" countries like the US hoặc Australia, appreciate how much ethnic diversity there is WITHIN Asian and African countries.
