Why do guys like girls with long hair?

I don't know any guys who have a real preference one over the other.
If anything, I prefer shorter hair anyway, and last I checked, I'm a guy.

Well if we were to take courting rituals into consideration, stuff like the peacock come into mind. Prettier, longer, larger decorative things flowing a body is typically a sign of good health and good nutrients, particularly since hair, like a lot of other things are connected to your health. So like healthy skin is attractive long healthy hair would be as well. So naturally it would be within most natural instincts to go after the mates with the healthiest looking decorations. From a psychological point of view I actually learned in one of my classes that it's because the brain unconsciously long hair (as well as big breasts and wide hips) as a sign of health. Because of the human unconscious need to reproduce, whatever seems healthiest is what the person's gonna go for.

Psychology aside I don't think all guys are attracted to longer haired women. I just recently got my hair cut really short and (so far) I've only gotten positive feedback from people of both genders.

And honestly I prefer women with short hair and men with long, for what it's worth.
