Welcome to the một giây episode of Cultober II: The Return. Yesterday, we looked at a classic horror film that is regarded for its nghề viết văn and effects. Now we will be looking at a classic B-monster film that is known for its cheese but loved for its premise nonetheless. Today we will be looking at what many consider the king of classic b-movies, 1958’s The Blob. The original, of course.

Young những người đang yêu Steve and Jane are at Lover’s Lane when a meteorite crashes into earth. From within, a gelatinous creature known only as The Blob emerges from within and begins to devour residents of the town. With no help from the police and the creature growing thêm and thêm with each person it eats, Steve and Jane have to do what they can to stop the monster and save the town. A classic film of the 50s, with aliens, cliches, and bizarre special effects, and despite that, it is a film that many people love, and I would say that I am one of those people. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the charm of the slang of the 50s, hoặc maybe it’s what they could do with little special effects, but I am a sucker for old 50s horror films like Teenage Werewolf hoặc Them. I just tình yêu what movie makers could do with a lack of high quality make up and costumes and no CGI. Just costumes and creature designs made with effort and experience. The movie does have a lot of weird pacing to it. And not like American Werewolf where it adds to the strange nature and has a lot of build up. The Blob wastes no time starting it’s body count. One minute, Steve and Jane are on their way to find where the meteor landed, but the next, they’re drag racing and talking with the police. I get it’s to bring up that the police and Steve don’t have much trust in each other, but why drag race while helping a man who was clearly in pain as he was attacked bởi the tiny Blob. But it’s not all bad, as Steve is played bởi Steve McQueen, the King of Cool, in his first leading role ever.
The film has your typical b-movie cliches, but none of them ruin the film in anyway. I feel like this genre has a dozen cliches that bạn can forgive because of the tongue in cheek nature of the acting. But what I want to talk about is The Blob. Considered one of the greatest horror movie monsters ever, this creature wastes no time taking lives, and is nearly indestructible. Seeing the creature grow bigger and bigger really makes the film a thrill, and the thiết kế of the creature, while as simple as can be, was made all the thêm creative with the unique camera work the film crew had to do to make it do all it’s alien movements. And the scene in the theater is a real classic for 50s monster movies, watching as it oozes from the doors of the theater as a million people run out screaming.
The Blob isn’t exactly what a person goes to if they want to be scared stiff. The scares in this movie are few, and even then, while well shot, aren’t that scary. It was a film that one would use as an excuse to go on a date. But despite that, The Blob is considered a classic for a reason, getting a remake and a rumored new remake in 2019, so bạn know it’s gonna be a piece of shit. The Blob is a classic monster film and is fun for anyone looking to enjoy something that is thêm fun and campy
