because it makes u feel intellectually superior? because bạn associate it with education and think that the thêm educated bạn are the better bạn are? because being educated automatically makes bạn an athority on whatever bạn wanna say? because when u don’t have a real argument it’s an easy way to get points?

here’s the thing

last time I had an account on this hellscape (before I was rly active on Twitter and stuff) I cared a looooooot about grammar like y’all do. I was totally a dick about it. but then I realized! It doesn’t fucking matter! someone can make a great point and not have perfect grammar. someone can make a shitty point and have perfect grammar. nowadays on Twitter the only people I still see correcting grammar are like literal nazis and meninists. people mistakes all the time. not making mistakes is not a sign of intelligence, nor is perfect grammar.

I made an account here again and realized y’all were still stuck in those ways. I made a phiếu bầu asking how much social media y’all use and for a lot of u it seems to be like only fanpop so maybe that explains it. If not exactly culty this club operates on its own rules. bạn care about grammar. bạn care about your “ringleaders.” if someone insults one of them bạn all take it personally. bạn don’t trust hoặc care about outsiders until they prove themselves to you. I think bạn guys really are kind of stuck in your ways, and you’re just going to attack me for this, right? bạn guys find meaning in meaningless places. bạn care about grammar because bạn always have.

Also, lowkey it is kind of elitist to care about grammar. When bạn care about grammar you’re associating it with intelligence and education, right? maybe that’s true to some extent. but not everyone who is educated is still going to have perfect grammar, and people still make mistakes. And even if grammar did indicate education, does that mean that someone who is less educated than bạn doesn’t have anything meaningful to say? Does that mean that bạn will dismiss anyone who doesn’t have perfect grammar because bạn think bạn know better? How is it not elitist to dismiss people on the basis of how they talk? Does that not sound similar to dismissing immigrants who don’t speak perfect English, hoặc black people who use AAVE, hoặc women hoặc say “like” and “literally” a lot?

grammar is very important in some settings. casual internet use is not really one of them. u can use ur perfect grammar if u want but criticizing others for it? when it does not matter at all and you’re only doing it to boost your own ego?

bạn guys care about grammar because bạn always have, and because bạn see it as a mark of intelligence. It’s fine to care about how bạn present yourself on the Internet but trying to police others only fuels your own ego. It isn’t kind hoặc productive. It isn’t a real argument. It’s honestly just a bad look.

zanhar1 Dude grammar and spelling nazi's were the bane of my existence tbh. Back when I first joined this site people gave me so much shit and made me feel so bad for poor spelling. Grammar/spelling nazis piss me off. Plus like there's no consideration for people who, maybe, don't speak English as a first language. That said I don't really think anyone here has that mentality anymore. Riku, Mauser, Lefteris, slim etc have all slipped into shit tier spelling on purpose for the lulz. And it's been ages since anyone has got on my case for accidental spelling/grammar mistakes.

sadleech ^ someone criticizing my grammar yesterday but I think they just don’t like me so they’re taking the easy points in an argument approach. glad to see not everyone subscribes to that tho! also I agree about the English as a first language thing, also made the point about AAVE and women using fillers in their speech. caring immensely about grammar and perfect English ignores so many cultural and socioeconomic factors!

zanhar1 See I used to do that to people in arguments but then I realized it was kind of a petty blow. Mostly because it finally clicked that that's how people used to treat me and I'm not for that. I'm not gonna shit talk whoever did it though because for one thing I get along with most people here. I disagree with some things that happen, but I try to get along with everyone. I also don't have the full story so it wouldn't be fair to take a side. AAVE is another good point. People from the south too who use y'all and "goin'" instead of "going". I feel like there's a lot of things people need to consider before trying to judge someone for their spelling. Learning disorders are a thing too and it's like why would you pick on someone with a learning disorder. I actually typed an article on this a long while back after getting berated by a grammar nazi.

8theGreat Just curious why are you so concerned with pointing put things about this club you don't like and expecting us to change them? It seems like a lot of effort for a place you clearly don't like and it's a bit confusing as to why you would spend so much time on it.

Riku114 @Zanhar Dude Ive abandoned apostrophes in casual typing cos I dont give a shit XD Ive been like this for like four or five years cause just one day I decided apostrophes were too much work XD Theres my shit typing I do intentionally as a joke but just my general typing style isnt grammatically correct. That being said I can easily revert but fuck that if its not graded or academic or formal

sadleech @8 I mean this took 10 mins to type but again, I had an account here years ago and some things are better so I know that y’all can change for the better if you want to. And if y’all aren’t still grammar nazis maybe some positive peer pressure can work on the stragglers. sue me for wanting people to be less of assholes. 😛😛😛

Rihanna312 Well, I just can`t stand it. Yea, English is not my native language and I don`t care about typos or advanced grammar rule mistakes, but if I notice someone getting basic things wrong all the time, yes, it will leave bad impression about them. I just can`t help it. But I usually don`t point it out unless I think that the person may learn and get things right in the future. Like, it`s not that hard to learn the basic difference between youre and you`re or then and than. Those things are also easy to spot and if I notice someone writing them wrong all the time, it will get on my nerves.

zanhar1 @Riku For me it depends on my mood. On this club I tend to abandon grammar and spelling rules because it's funner. Other times I'm too lazy to go back and correct mistakes. Mostly though I tend to try to use proper grammar and spelling because, idk, for me it just feels right to do. But I'm not gonna get on someone's case for not using caps or apostrophes or something. Just one of those things where if it doesn't infringe on what I'm doing then it's not worth pitching a fit over.

Riku114 @sadleech Honestly I dont think you are in a place to be lecturing people on how to be "better people". Yeah grammar nazis are annoying, but just waltzing into a website you havent been on in years to the point few to no people actually recognize you and lecturing everyone like some superior being just comes off as quite condescending You honestly dont know the first five things about a good 95% of the people on this club (and that might be extending it) so its kinda rude to be talking to us like this. Plus if one person corrected your grammar, there no need to tell the whole club to be better when you could just go tell the person directly. Hate to be rude cause you didnt give me that much of a bad vibe when you came around, but I have to say the condescending way you were talking on here and bunching us all together like that just rubbed me the wrong way

Riku114 Besides honestly grammar nazis are like one of the least annoying things on this club and compared to other websites Ive been on, they are considerably rare. If we want to talk about problems, lets talk about the annoying cringey Doom kid or the lack of moderation on the website. Someone just walking about correcting grammar is so easily ignorable. If something like that gets you upset enough to write an article about it, you honestly will get so annoyed with the amount of petty trolls on this website.

zanhar1 TBH I think that the biggest concern here is the lack of moderation; we had one particular aggressive troll/user who kept coming back and posting self harm pics and he didn't get banned. Fake or not, no one really wants to see a stranger's self harm scars; not when the person is doing it to guilt people into talking to them. The other things is that a handful of users like to post their fetishes. Tldr; I gotta agree with Riku that this club has bigger issues than the grammar Nazi's. I've been around for a long time myself and I feel as though the mods kind of abandoned us lmao. Mostly I think people on here are nice but there are a few users who just send bad vibes.
