Dear Mariah,
I and your father are expecting to leave for the upcoming season.
Your father got accepted as a manager of a company in United States and I have to be there to guide him. If you’re wondering whose going to take care of bạn Norah will be there. She’ll be with bạn for a while. Don’t worry me and your father will call bạn to check on bạn and Norah okay? And expect us that we won’t be there in your graduation and we will always be there to support you. I left your emergency money bởi the fridge and your money for expenses. Please save your money, we’ll use FedEx when bạn need cash for important stuff like college, transportation, groceries, electric bills etc. My friend Lourdes is inviting bạn to stay at their house with her kids to spend the summer, if bạn would like. Anytime you’re welcome at their place in McKinley Hills. Yes dear, we will be away for months.
P.S
Don’t forget to feed Mrs. Fluffers and tell her ‘no sleeping on my hoa beds’. Even she can’t understand human language.
Your, Mom.
Elizabeth P.
My fingers ran through the parchment of the white paper. I read mom’s letter twice already. Starting now, I would miss the smell of my mom’s deliciously cooked French củ hành, hành tây súp and dad’s voice shouting while watching football game at night. I’m sort of afraid in getting use to it because a lot will change. And I don’t like changes. But, I have to accept the fact that they’re leaving and somebody will take place…..for a while as my mom said. This is going to be a long day. I pursed my lips, refolded the letter inside the envelope and ran through the door.
The morning I woke up, the sun shone down through the curtains of the wooden window and it appeared with a speck of dust pointing towards the floor. I jumped out of giường without care whether I’ll slip hoặc stumble, opened the window and look through it.
Everything seemed fine outside. bởi the corner of the biệt thự Street, Mrs. Wood took an early time to water her flowers; some foreign kids from Pine đường phố, street rode their bicycles happily then one stumbled down and got up quickly chasing the others; an old couple came jogging on the sidewalk. Everybody looked really busy. bởi the sidewalk of our house, a blue scooter parked there facing the mailbox. I wondered who it could be.
Then suddenly, I heard a knock on my bedroom door and it was Norah. Gosh she looked young, I thought. Her sweet looking face and a tied up shoulder length hair, I smiled. Norah had been like one of us in the family since I was born. She was our keeper though. “Good morning Mariah,” She đã đưa ý kiến certainly. “Breakfast is ready.”
“Thanks. What’s for breakfast.”? I said.
“Egg omelet with steamed vegetables.”
“Sounds good. I’ll be right down in a minute.”
“Okay, I’ll prepare táo, apple juice.” She đã đưa ý kiến happily and closed the door.
Sigh. I sat down my giường and think.
So let’s get this straight, me receiving my diploma without my parents? Yes. Going to the hospital without my parents, when I’ll expect to be hit bởi a truck? Maybe. Attend college without them? I think so. Having a boyfriend without my parent’s permission? No.
Stop, I better take a shower.
My closet is just a normal closet and inside it are the clothes what normal people wear.
Quickly, my eye caught something to wear. I handed two tops and went for the mirror, exchanging a áo cánh, blouse hoặc a t-shirt in front of my body. “Hmm,” I đã đưa ý kiến hiding my lips.
I can’t decide what I’ll wear actually. “This blouse,” I sighed. “Needs three thêm buttons in the middle.” I can’t wear clothes with missing buttons, I’ll look like an idiot, I thought.
I’ve decided to wear a t-shirt, jeans and black Chuck Taylors.
My body shifted in front of the mirror and looked at myself.
And I wished for better days.
It’s getting late, I should run off.
At school parking lot, my fingers turned off the ignition. Groups were formed on every corner of the building some are Math Geeks, Emo’s, Jocks, Cheerleaders, Skater Dudes etc.
I walked up the stairs to lead myself inside the front hall. Then suddenly,
“Whoa!” I shouted. A group of skateboarding guys just pass in front of me as if rushing. I responded quickly as I could.
My sách fell. “Oh! I’m sorry.” One came back and picked up the sách for me.
I managed to help.
“Um…I should be sorry because I didn’t see hoặc even heard.” I đã đưa ý kiến shyly.
He handed my sách which were pilled up. Behind him his skateboarding Những người bạn were staring at both of us, waiting. Gosh, why can’t I see his face? The sun’s cá đuối, ray faced straight to my face.
I used my right hand to give it some shade for my eyes to see.
“Don’t say sorry, okay? I’m the one who should apologize.” He smiled.
Now I can see his face. My mouth fell open.
My tim, trái tim beating faster and I can’t even feel my feet. I almost let out a squeal.
“You okay?” he asked. How can bạn spell HANDSOME again? I totally forgot.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” I đã đưa ý kiến almost excited.
“By the way, I’m Riley Cruz.” He let out a hand.
“Uh…” I can’t speak.
Riley was waiting for me to speak.
“Mariah…Pearson.” I breathed. Now, I found my voice.
We both shook hands. Riley Cruz looked a lot handsome. Looks like a foreigner to me.
His hair silky black, pinkish lips and has a cute smile. I was hypnotized.
My mind took a flash back, it’s like I’ve seen him before…or maybe not.
Was he one of my classes? Then from the skateboard group, one shouted behind, “Yo, Riley! bạn coming hoặc not?” The other guy in a white mũ lưỡi trai, cap scoffed.
Riley looked behind them then back to my face and said, “Yeah, I have to go. See ya ‘round.”
His group came to giày trượt băng, skate back. Riley has the only one who has black and red skateboard colors; he skated with them and shouted, “Yo! Wait up.”
I sighed and walked up the stairs and into the front hall.
This school ngày wasn’t that exciting for me especially when bạn are not interested in today’s topic. The clock was already striking to twelve, meaning its lunch time for us High School students.
Sierra Michael, my bestfriend since prepatory, was doing all the talking.
I didn’t even mind to listen. My ears as if pressed the mute button. On the other tables, stood the được ưa chuộng Girls gossiping……again, on my left the Jocks were talking loudly about the latest high scores they got the time they won on last seasons game and on my right, the Skater guys.
Riley Cruz, the cute guy who bumped me a few hours ago. I heard him protesting, as if protecting the topic. They were teasing him. The guy who laughed with black hair and eyes đã đưa ý kiến my name then laughed out loud. Yes, I was watching them.
Riley felt ashamed he hid his face between his arms down to the table.
“Oh come on Riley, bạn did that on purpose did you?” the guy on the black haired guy’s left said.
“What? No,” Riley snapped a bit and laughed. Now Sierra stopped talking and said, “Mariah, bạn listening hoặc not?” she crossed her arms.
“I’m sorry. I,” that’s all I can say. Then suddenly mine and Riley’s eyes met.
Sierra followed my direction, she looked at her side. I can hear her squeal from the inside but, I didn’t mind.
“Mariah,” Sierra spoke as if telling her she saw a ghost. “What are bạn doing?” she added smiling. The eye contact broke. “What?” I startled.
Sierra leaned back. Her smile as if hiển thị her teeth and squealing. What was she doing?
We were both in silent. After a few minutes, “You, have some explaining to do.” Sierra spoke through her teeth still smiling. “I’m going. Gonna be late for art class.” I grabbed my backpack.
I left Sierra frustrated.
Then behind me, I felt something pulling me. It was Riley.
“Hey, look. About earlier before class starts, I’m sorry.”
I looked away, gosh he’s so handsome! I thought.
“We already talked about this, okay?” I went phía trước, chuyển tiếp to the door.
“Wait. bạn are still mad right? I mean, mad at me?”
“Whatever.”
“Is that a yes?” He spoke each words slowly.
“No. I Heard bạn and your Những người bạn talking about me.” I spoke, uncomfortably.
He gave a look at where he sat with his friends.
“Oh, yeah, right. That was nothing, alright? Nothing.”
My tim, trái tim leaped.
“Oh. Okay, gotta go.”
I ran towards the door not even hearing his unreplied message.
Good thing we don’t have much to do. It’s really getting closer to summer vacation and I can’t wait to go out of town with my bestfriend. Saturday morning came and I see myself lying on my back while listening to Coldplay. I sighed and mouthed the lyrics.
It was already afternoon and I got bored. I went downstairs and found my sister talking on the phone. Well she was two years older than me. Her name is Michaela Pearson.
We call her Aeyla, as in ey-la. “You will not believe what Gregg told me….”
I went for the door.
Riding a bike was not that easy for me. When I was little, my first bike went broken.
And my dad keeps repairing it until I know how to ride it myself.
Ring! Ring! Ring! I picked up my cellphone from my left pocket.
“Hello?” I spoke. The call duration ended in 34 seconds. I forgot it. I thought then raced to the school.
There was something I forgot to do.
In the middle of the hallway near the lockers, I ran as fast as I can, holding my term paper and I almost pass it overdue. Ouch! I slipped and felt the pain in my knee. Ouch. Ow. I almost let out a curse word. I stood up slowly. Good thing the lockers helped me support, but not that much. The faculty room door opened. Riley! I gasped.
Ouch! I moaned.
“Yes ma’m. I’ll do it tomorrow after bóng đá practice. Bye!” He closed the door while looking at some papers he held.
He found me. I was struggling. “Hey,” he ran after me maybe to help. “You alright?”
Looking at his eyes made the pain go away a bit. I forgot the words.
“Not really. Um…can bạn please give…ouch…my term paper…t-to Professor Vincent…p-please?”
I handed him the paper slowly. The pain, still pain. Can’t feel my ankle.
“Okay, um. I’ll bring bạn to the nurse’s office first.” He seems to support me. He placed my arm around him so I can walk with support. Oh…my…god! I thought, happily.
My tim, trái tim skipped a beat. Can this be real? “Oh. Um, thanks. How about bạn give the term paper first and I wait here?” My explanation seemed very well said. “No, no, no. I’ll bring bạn first to the nurse. I’ll take care of it.” He sighed.
I don’t have the strength to argue with him but I nodded quickly.
While walking, we talked. He asked about why my knees hurt. I laughed at that. Plus why am I so sensitive to get mad easily at things. I didn’t get a chance to answer that because we were in the nurse’s room already. The nurse let me sat on the giường and examined my knees.
I tried to explain to her why. Riley was on one corner, texting. Every 5 giây he stares at me and the nurse. He tried to smile at me. I smiled back, too.
While the nurse went out to get some cloth for, Riley asked again. “How ya feeling?”
“I’m good, already. The nurse đã đưa ý kiến to be careful and not to run in the hallway hoặc I’ll end up bone damage.” I laughed a bit. He chuckled.
The nurse came back with a cloth, tied up around my left knee and gave me a pack of ice. Of course she didn’t forget to give me a red lollipop.
After the trip to the nurse’s office, Riley drove me to my house. I was wearing a suppoter.
I thanked him as we walked to the front porch. I waved at him as his Honda drove away.
The smell of mỳ ống, mì ống made me hungry. On the đi văng beside me, Aeyla was đọc a magazine while talking to the phone. Norah was setting the table. She was surprised I was wearing a supporter.
“My! Mariah!” She was shouting something in Spanish which gave me the creeps.
I rolled my eyes. Sometimes, I don’t understand what she’s saying. Norah, she is a Spanish person her mother was a Spanish woman and her father was an American.
“Norah, it’s a long story. I’ll explain later.” I sat on the đi văng slowly and sighed.
Ouch! I felt the pain. Aeyla placed the phone down and paused. “What happen to you?”
She đã đưa ý kiến as if concern. “I slipped and broke my knee.” Norah went out from the phòng bếp, nhà bếp and brought out the pasta. She made a tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Sound. The best part was she served me mỳ ống, mì ống on the đi văng and pulled out some ice from the freezer and placed it on my knee.
“I was running to pass my term paper to Professor Vincent then I slipped, nearly broke my knee.
The nurse đã đưa ý kiến good thing I didn’t run really fast hoặc I’ll end up like a patient in the emergency room.”
I sighed, fed myself mỳ ống, mì ống and drank chanh juice.
Norah and Aeyla looked at each other then away.
“So, it’s not a real damage at all. Just like a cramp hoặc something, right?” Aeyla looked at the table.
I looked at her and said, “Yeah, I just need a days to rest, I guess.”
Norah went up and picked up the dishes from the table, placed it on the sink. She went to me and hugged me. I did the same thing back. “Oh, Mariah,” she pressed me to her. “I’m surprised you’re okay.
That’s alright we’ll take care of your knee. “
My sister went up to us and joined the hug.
After I recovered from my knee injury, I didn’t know that tiếp theo ngày will be the official ngày of “bye-bye high school and hello college day” before school năm ends.
Which is augh! Graduation, I blurted out the word with disgust.
bạn know why I hate graduating high school? It’s because Sierra is moving to New York.
The ngày she told me she’s leaving in graduation day, I cannot help but cry. She was my only bestfriend, she was like a sister to me and that may be the worst of my life of her leaving.

How are the winners determined from the losers? Easy. Whoever gave in first.
And if no one gives in?
Giving in is often easier. But not the desirable choice.
Taylor tapped the glass coated floor. The tiny black droplet that bloomed on her forefinger fell with a soft plink on a tam giác of glass below.
Taylor cautiously lifted the shard to the light. There it was. A small stain, barely the size of a pinhead, darkening the glass.
That's all I am. Just a flaw on an otherwise clear surface.
Just a flaw. A mistake that was never meant to be.
"I'm leaving," Taylor muttered to herself, getting back to her feet. She strode towards the corner, vanishing just as soon as the shadow fell over to embrace her slight form.
She closed her eyes and felt the end of her plait, fumbling with it until wove free.
She knew where she was going, if only this once.
But when she got there? She hadn't thought that far.

Blood Bound plot. No it is not cute, it’s not simple; it’s pessimist and frightful. The story is suggestive of Rosemary’s Baby, which does not seem accidental.
It is 2019, and we’re still exploring age-old subjects like Wicca, human sacrifice and sects. Somehow, those subgenres stand the test of time. Horror stories built around pregnancy never get old either, for obvious reasons. As saturated as these themes may be, in horror cinema these days, Blood Bound manages to impress and surprise. It’s its own thing.
I felt them start to build up
As soon as I saw him
I put on a happy face for my mom
Because she doesn’t know
That he broke my heart
She didn’t know that I balled my eyes out
She hasn’t realized that I’ve withdrawn
He says he wants us to be friends
I could barely hold them back
He asked if I understood
And I do
But that doesn’t stop the pain and anger
I blink back the tears
And realize that I was starting to put a shield up
My shield of anger
I feel the tears
As I pray
That God will help me this time
So I don’t isolate myself again
And don’t lose myself
Tears……
They come and I can’t stop them
I hate them
They are a weakness
and I can’t stop them
As soon as I saw him
I put on a happy face for my mom
Because she doesn’t know
That he broke my heart
She didn’t know that I balled my eyes out
She hasn’t realized that I’ve withdrawn
He says he wants us to be friends
I could barely hold them back
He asked if I understood
And I do
But that doesn’t stop the pain and anger
I blink back the tears
And realize that I was starting to put a shield up
My shield of anger
I feel the tears
As I pray
That God will help me this time
So I don’t isolate myself again
And don’t lose myself
Tears……
They come and I can’t stop them
I hate them
They are a weakness
and I can’t stop them
