There are a lot of theories to why she named them and here is one I liked for Hugo:

I took it upon myself to discover the meaning of Hugo, so I visited a baby names website. According to babyzone.com, Hugo comes from the name Hugh, which means "intelligent." This kind of reinforces the idea that it's a reversal of the names. I mean, a unique name starting with "h" that means intelligence? That's pretty much Hermione.

It makes it seem a little bit better, since I really hate the name Hugo.
Again, Rose is nothing special either, but not terrible.
Not really a fan of the names, as you can probably tell.

Rose is fine but Hugo makes me think of the big frizzy haired guy on lost, it just doesn't seem to fit. I thought they would use more meaningful names.

I love the name Rose its soo like a name Hermione would choose, but I think that Hugo is cute and totally original it is most definetely a name Ron would choose.

Yes,,, what was up with hugo?!? All I could say after I read the last part (and cried a bit because it was finally over) was "hugo?" "HugO?" I kept saying it for days.. It drove my friends mad.. But why would they call him hugo and not fred or lupin.. or some other name with meaning?

If JK thinks that's what Ron and Hermione would name their kids, then okay. They have actually grown on me since my initial dislike for them immediately after reading the book. The real names I don't like are those of Harry and Ginny's kids, but I won't get into that here. Lol.

George named his kid Fred, so they wouldn't have named their kid Fred. And Tonks hated her first name, so I doubt they'd name their kid Nymphadora. Really, I don't think they should have named their kids after anyone who died. They don't want to look at their kid and remember that war. Plus, I think Harry and Ginny did enough naming after people for everyone.

I prefer the current names, I mean George had a son called Fred, so it would be odd for both Ron's kid and George's kid to both be called Fred. Fred could be Hugo's middle name. Anyway, I defiantly love the name Hugo, and Rose is ok as well

rose begins with R and so does Ron and hugo begins with H and so does Hermione. funny isnt it. i think ron named rose well in my imagination cause rose has red hair and looks everything like ron with hermione's smile. though i think they should have named their son fred and i mean where did they get the name hugo from?

I love the name, Rose! SO CUTE!! I also pictured Belle/Beast having a daughter named, Rose!
Hugo is all right but I don't know-I feel neutral to it. But I like the fact that Ron and Hermione tried to be original with their kids' names. Harry and Ginny took the "name your kid after a memorable significant someone" too far by naming thier childrens' first AND middle names.

They would have named their son Fred, but George and Angelina already named their son Fred.

I liked the fact that while Harry and Ginny named their kids after relatives/friends/people who'd died in the last war, Hermione and Ron seemed to choose original names.

I think that SOMEONE should honor friends. So if George hasn't then Ron should.

@singingsparkler - George did name his son Fred though. And if one person was going to name a child after the original Fred, wouldn't it be his twin?
