If I'm supposed to hate Fred, then I'm doing a good job. If I'm supposed to like Austin and Dez then the day I do you might as well cover me in bubble rap and put me in a small monitored room so people can see where I've gone crazy.

At least the other serves its purpose.

When a character is intentionally annoying and unlikable like Fred, Umbridge, Margaret White, etc., that means the authors/creators did what they were supposed to do. However, when there's a character that is supposed to be likable and able to relate to but ends up being just annoying or unlikable like Bella Swan, much of the Disney Channel show characters, etc., that means the authors/creators did something wrong.

If they purposely try to make a character unlikable than that's really bad. every show should try to make each there character as likable as possible. It severing the purpose just to be annoying and unlikable than you should know you have a bad character and should replace them. Even through it's more despicable with a character you are supposed to like but turns out bad. At lest the other one knows one of the most basic things about making a fake character.
