And I'm very picky about buying books (in regards to their cover): I only buy books that I've already read, and they usually have to have the same cover as the version I read.
I often do and there's a reason for that: You can often tell a lot about a book from its cover -- they are made to appeal to a certain segment of the population. It's easy to see from the cover if the book is a romance or a thriller. If it's the first I don't buy it, if it's the latter I might.
I usually judge it by the author, some of the best books I've ever read had really horrible covers. I do admit that once or twice I've read a book just because the cover's nice though...
Guilty as charged, but at least I'm reading! Part of the fun is trying to figure out how the cover was designed. =) Don't do it all the time, but I'm not ashamed to admit it.
i definitely do even tho i shouldnt. the first appeal comes from whether or not it looks interesting. then i read the back or inside flap (wherever it is) and see whether i will really want to read it. so i also judge it by its little about me section.
It's cover, it's title, and it's back. I'll be drawn to it by a good picture on the front cover, I'll see if the title sounds good, and if it seems interesting I'll pick it up and read the synopsis on the back.
no i do not judge books buy their covers, i usually read the descriptions b4 i buy them, but i usually buy n e book with reading or looking at it jus so i could bring up my book collections n when i do that the books i grab r way good.
I refuse to read books with cartoons on the cover on books with frill pink stuff because it is most likely chick lit. I prefer covers with photography on then.
In my experience I hardly ever like a book with a bad cover, I've tried reading all kinds of books and actually found that books with good covers are usually better.
Exactly! Like shadowpunk93 just said, looking at nothing but the cover tells you nothing about the book. It's what's on the inside that really matters. This shouldn't just go for books, this lesson should focus on people, too.
Sometimes. Well, It's just that if the cover or spine looks interesting, I'm more likely to pick it up and read the back cover. If I like what I read, I check it out/buy it. The dull books usually I don't pick out at first.
Ahh I check many things to deem a book worthy to read. I first look at the cover then read the back then I check the author then I look at what the pages on the inside of it look like, then the names of chapters, characters names... after that I usually make my decision but it doesn't usually take that long :)
I know you're not supposed to, but it's impossible not to.... The cover can tell you what kind of book it is at a glance (if it's done right) Like I NEVER read books with preppy-looking girls on the front, cuz it's obviously gonna be some stupid teen romance or something....
i couldn't possibly read a book with a front cover that I don't like, because I am forever looking back to the front cover, and it gets ingrained in my memory, so a bad front-cover...
I know it's bad too, but I'm not really going to look at a book that a friend's reading or something in the book store if the cover isn't catchy. I also go a lot by title, probably more so then by cover.
A cover that jumps out at you and catches your eye is always good. I like a book to have a cover that looks as though it's been thought about and worked on. A lot of books, though, have a cover that looks as though they couldn't really be bothered with it and just gave it something, that'll do. The book I'm reading right now has a dark and dull cover which isn't eye-catching or nice to look at at all. It hasn't got a cool picture or anything.
Also, a lot of books have different covers, and one cover is more often than not much, much better than the other. Typically, when I reserve something from the library, they give me the sucky cover. I think, in some cases, the U.S gets a great cover when we get a more rubbishy one. I know it's shallow and unimportant, but I do like a good cover that goes well with a good book.
Always read the blurb, but I think everyone makes their decisions based on the blurb anyway.
by the TITLE!! if the name of the book attracts me then I'll sure want to read it.. the cover is not important to me because it's not something the author did.. I thought some artist makes it according to the book and the author has very little influence on it..
but I understand it 100%..I do the same with the titles X)
sometimes
if I see an awsome cover, I pick it up and read the blurb to see if it sounds good
but some of the books I like have covers that are weird and not so great
the title is more important to me too
yep. its a very important part of the book. for instance, if the cover is yellow i will forever onwards associate the book's story with yellow. i dunno why.
^ Why is it so hard to believe? I do the exact same thing.
Except really, I judge a book by its cover half of the time & the other half of the time I judge it by its title. But yeah, I do judge books by their covers.
but if im buying a book in a series i like them to match!

Although I do judge by the title.
