Kayla’s POV

“Not yet. I’m going to tell everyone after Mitchell’s gone.”
Jacob was silent while I stroked my bump. I was going to be a mum. I would never be able to get over that. Of course the entire thing scared me half to death. The baby was growing faster than normal. I was eight weeks pregnant according to Carlisle. I had only been having sex for two. That made absolutely no sense but this was a special baby. Half Azdi, half vampire. Unique too. I wonder what I was having, a boy hoặc a girl. Personally, I’d tình yêu a boy but if I have a girl I would be just as happy.
“You won’t be alive though,” Jacob suddenly said. “To announce you’re pregnant. bạn keep saying Mitchell’s going to kill you.”
I stared at him in shock.

Jacob smiled and ruffled my hair.
“That’s my girl,” he laughed.
He placed a hand on my bump, as if shielding the growing life inside me from the outside world.

“From Mitchell?”
“From everything.”
He had me all emotional now. Tears were sliding my down my cheeks and I smiled at Jacob. My Jacob, who had the biggest tim, trái tim ever. Vowing to protect my half vampire baby, when it was sort of his enemy. Oh, God tình yêu him.
“Are bạn crying?” he asked me. His warm hand wiped away my tears.
“I’m all hormonal at the moment,” I sniffed. “And bạn go and do something like that.”
He laughed and pulled me into a hug.

“How many weeks are you?”
“Apparently I’m eight weeks gone but I should be at the most two weeks.”

Jacob suddenly sat up straight. I was jostled to the side and almost fell off the bed. He caught me and steadied me.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him. Was Mitchell here? Oh my God, Edward wasn’t here! No that was good. Mitchell couldn’t use Edward against me then. Where was my dagger? At the Cullens! Crap. What could I use now?
“He’s back,” Jacob sounded confused. “I thought they usually go away for a weekend?”
I listened. I could hear Edward’s thoughts and they were all about me. About how he needed to get to me to protect me. Mitchell was here! I quickly scrambled off the giường and pulled on a pair of shoes. I wasn’t going to fight in my socks.
“I think Mitchell’s here,” I đã đưa ý kiến to Jacob. “Edward’s really worried. All he’s thinking about is protecting me.”
“Right,” Jacob stood up too and marched to my door. “I’ll go get the pack ready.”

Before he could leave though, Edward burst into my bedroom. I hadn’t pulled Jacob back far enough and the door hit him in the face. Jacob stumbled into me and I fell over. I clutched at my stomach protectively but inches before I hit the floor, cold hands caught me.
“Edward!” I said. Edward’s hands locked around my wrists. “What are bạn doing back so soon?”
Jacob was clutching at his nose, which was pouring blood.
“I have to get bạn to Carlisle,” he said, quietly so only I could hear him.
“Is Mitchell here?”
“No.”
“Then how about we take Jacob first?” I said. I tried to go to Jacob but Edward’s grip was too strong.
“Leave him, he’ll be fine,” Edward pulled me and I could do nothing but follow. “Is Charlie here?”
“No,” I answered. “He’s out with Tess. Edward, why do I need to go to Carlisle?”
Edward hesitated and his thoughts became nothing but numbers. The Fibonacci Series if I was right.
1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144...
“Edward, tell me right now!” I stopped moving and tried to stop him too. We were outside my room. I wasn’t going any further until he told me what the hell was wrong. Jacob came out at that point, his face covered in blood but his nose looked healed.
“You’re not taking her anywhere,” Jacob growled. His hands wrapped around the hàng đầu, đầu trang of my arms.
“She’s my wife,” Edward snarled.
“That doesn’t give bạn the right to just pick her up and take her wherever bạn want.”

“STOP!”
Jacob stopped immediately but Edward pulled again and I fell into his arms. He took that as his chance to run and picked me up. He got as far as halfway down the stairs before Jacob stopped him.
“Leave her alone!”
“You leave us alone!”
“She doesn’t want to go with you!”
“How do bạn know? Can bạn read her mind?!”
“I know bạn can’t right now!”
“I know what’s best for her!”
“I’m protecting her!”
“From Mitchell and him only!”
“No, from everything! Including you!”
I listened to them as they argued about me. I wanted to know what was going on in Edward’s mind. He wasn’t letting anything slip. He knew from past experience to control his thoughts when in a temper because I could misread them. He was still listing numbers in the Fibonacci Series and frankly I was getting tired of hearing them. What had him so worried that he would act like this? I hadn’t hurt myself. I wasn’t going to be hurt other than that we knew Mitchell was going to kill me but he wouldn’t act like this without Mitchell even here yet. What did he know that I didn’t? Was I ill? If I was ill I needed to see Carlisle for the baby’s sake.
I tried to get out of Edward’s arms but he wouldn’t let me go. This was getting crazy. I needed to be on my own feet. Not in Edward’s arms on the stairs when I was pregnant. What if he dropped me?
“Edward let her go.” Jacob saw me struggling to get to my feet. He tried to help me but Edward snarled and his mouth came down on Jacob’s arms.
“Back off, mutt, hoặc I‘ll bite you,” Edward spoke threateningly.
“You know what happens if bạn bite me,” Jacob said, just as threateningly. “Treaty is off. I can attack bạn freely.”
Edward snarled and I felt his arms loosen around me. Jacob saw this and his arms came out protectively again.

He came with me willingly into the living room where I sat him on the sofa.

“We need to see Carlisle,” he said. He sounded protective. “I’ll explain there. Just come with me. Trust me.”
“Edward, we don’t need to see Carlisle,” I said, and I pulled him closer to me. His head fell against my stomach. He immediately recoiled.
“We have to!” he hissed. He shot up and his arms reached out to pick me up again but Jacob slammed into him.
“I said, leave her alone!”
Jacob hadn’t phased. He was stupid not to. He could be killed. Especially when Edward was like this. Edward knew I was pregnant. I could tell. He wasn’t thinking about it but he wouldn’t look at my bump and then say we need to see Carlisle because he thought I was fat. No. He knew. But he recoiled from my bump. He didn’t want to be near the baby. That wasn’t right. This was his baby as well. He shouldn’t be doing that. Unless he didn’t want the baby….
I could hear snarls and growls and lots of crashing but I tuned them out. Edward didn’t want the baby? Then why did we need to see Carlisle? If it wasn’t to xác nhận my pregnancy then why?
“EDWARD!”
I screamed so loud I felt my baby jump. Edward and Jacob stopped fighting and looked at me. Edward stared at me, his eyes not fully vàng yet, watched me and I was pleased to see fear in them. He had every right to be scared of me. Jacob watched me carefully and he stood up slowly. He didn’t know what I was going to do but he guessed it wasn’t good.
Edward didn’t stand.
“Why do we need to see Carlisle?” I advanced on him, clutching my stomach. “Why?”
He saw where my hands where and he stood up so fast it was blur.
“You know?”
There was confusion on his face for all of a một giây before he put up a mask. Jacob stood at my side, protectively putting an arm around my shoulders. Edward watched this and then he exploded.
“He knows?!” he pointed a finger at Jacob. “He knows!”
Jacob nodded stiffly once.
“This was why he was so poorly disguising his thoughts!” Edward began to pace up and down frantically. “Why bạn had your mind block up! Why bạn sent me away! This is what bạn weren’t telling me!”
Edward stopped and looked at me.
“Who else knows?”
“Carlisle,” I said. “I thought I had something worse than a baby. A tumour hoặc something. I went to see him at the hospital and he gave me an ultrasound. I’m eight weeks pregnant.”
Edward laughed and he relaxed. What was so funny about me being eight weeks pregnant?
“Edward?”

My mouth opened in shock. Jacob tightened his grip.
“Excuse me?” I snarled. “This baby isn’t yours?”

“They baby will be half-vampire,” Edward sighed and he turned away from me. “It’ll have my strength, my speed, my nature. Imagine if it kicked you, just a tiny little kick. The damage it would do. And obviously it’s growing at a fast rate, so the birth could be in weeks. Then it’ll want blood, it’ll be thirsty, it’ll bite.”
“Edward, we don’t know that,” I said. “The baby could be thêm like me than like you. bạn shouldn’t make assumptions.”
He spun around. “I’m making assumptions to protect you.”
“I don’t need protection. I’m fine on my own.”
Edward reached out for me. I let him take my hand.
“So many times I’ve let bạn get hurt. It’s not happening again.”
“It’s just a baby.”
“For now.”
“So what are bạn planning to do then?” Jacob asked him. “Are bạn going to give her an abortion?”
I looked horrified at Edward. He wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t do that to me.
“No,” he said. “Carlisle is.”
I yanked my hand out of his and backed away. Jacob stepped in front of me, shielding me from Edward. He wasn’t serious, was he? He wouldn’t want me to have an abortion. Not my first baby. Not when he knows how much I wanted a child. He wouldn’t cause me that much pain would he?
“Kayla, see my reason,” he said, stepping to the side of Jacob to look at me. “I’m only trying to protect you.”
“By killing my baby!” I screamed at him. Sudden rage built up inside of me. My fierce maternal instinct and an increase of hormones. I pushed Jacob to the side and looked at my husband. The man I thought loved me.
“I’m keeping bạn safe!” he shouted at me. “Why can’t bạn see that?!”
“You’re killing an innocent child!”
“It’s not a child! It’s a monster!”
“You’re the monster!”
My hand flew to my stomach, protecting my baby. My eyes narrowed and Edward was soaring through the air. I felt a nudge against my hand. My baby. It didn’t hurt me at all. Not as Edward thought it would. I felt the nudge again, a little harder and Edward stopped in mid air. He dropped to the floor before he could hit the wall, which had been my intention.
Edward landed on his feet and he looked at me.
“Thank you,” he said.
“I didn’t do it,” I replied. I looked down at my bump. I looked up at him.
He pointed to my stomach. My baby had protected him. He didn’t deserve it, I didn’t know if the baby understood what he wanted to do, but all the same I felt highly emotional about it. I felt proud of my unborn child.
Jacob stood in front of me again and he growled.
“Go, Edward,” he said. “Or the baby may not be fast enough to save your life from me.”
Edward pleaded with me in his mind.
Come with me. Think this through. bạn don’t know what you’re heading into you. We can fix it before it’s too late.
I shook my head.
“Go.”
Even after his child saves him he still wants to hurt it. Well, he wouldn’t. Not while I was still here. Nothing would be hurting my baby. Nothing.
