I looked up from the floor, where I was examining a complicated pattern on the carpet. "We've got news,Dad." My voice was sad, empty. Charlie finally seemed to register this.
"What's happened?" he spoke to Alice. Worried.
"We're leaving, Charlie." She told him simply. Confidently. God, i realised. I was scared of my own father! But, I had good reason to be. Charlie exploded. Screaming incoherently, no real words escaping his mouth. Finally, when he had finished, he asked one question. one simple word. but it revealed how much i had hurt him. And it broke my heart.
