They used to appear to be from two different worlds, but as the show progressed, what they stood for and their values proved to be very similar- and they learned quite a lot from each other as well. ♥

I was going to say different because Buffy is spunky, quirky, outgoing, talkative, witty, clever, and impulsive. While Angel is quiet, mysterious, broody, rational, cautious, and sarcastic.

But Buffy can be quiet at times...and sarcastic too. And Angel can definitely be witty & clever at times as well.
But their main similarities are that they have trouble opening up to people and telling people what they are really feeling, they tend to struggle with their issues on their own, they can emotionally distance themselves from the people in their lives, they are both really passionate, and they really internalize their pain.

Plus they are both selfless heroes fighting for good but both having an edge and a dark side. Both of them ultimately are willing to sacrifice everything in order to save the world time and again.
