Selena Gomez, 22, took the stage at the Nokia Theatre L.A. live on Nov. 23 and sang her soul out during the 42nd annual American Music Awards. Selena performed her hit new single “The Heart Wants What It Wants” for her first time, and she absolutely blew us away. We

There’s nothing more beautiful than an emotional Selena standing on stage singing from her heart — and that’s exactly what she did during her haunting performance.

Selena opened the song with the opening monologue of the music video before the lights came up and revealed Selena in a beautiful pale pink dress. The backdrop behind Selena really gave us the chills — from the thunder and lighting to tiny pieces shattering, she really took us on one roller coaster of emotions. During the bridge of the song angel wings popped up on the screen behind Selena which literally sent chills down our spine!

But the tearjerker came at the very end of the performance when her own eyes started welling up which caused everyone in the audience, her bestie Taylor Swift included, to share some waterworks. This was without a doubt Selena’s best performance yet, and definitely her darkest.

HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY told you that a source close to Selena said she knew she would cry during the performance, and it looks like she did! The song was an emotional one for her as she went through a dramatic and messy breakup with Justin Bieber, 20, who keeps seeming to haunt her.

Not only did Selena most likely have Justin on her mind during her performance, but she has a ton of memories with Justin at the AMAs which were sure she was reminded of.

“This weekend is going to be a big test, if she can hold out and not see him,” a source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “They have a lot of history with this show, a lot of memories. The AMAs have brought them back together before so her friends are wondering if it will happen again.”

Even though Selena’s made it pretty clear she doesn’t want get back together with Justin, perhaps her emotional performance triggered a trip down memory lane and she’ll remember the amazing love they once had. In the meantime, congrats to Selena for stealing the show! She really outdid herself.
