The rumours that Louis Tomlinson of One Direction will one day grace The X Factor judging panel with his glorious presence have been doing the rounds for what feels like FOREVAH (actually just since last year when he helped out a lot backstage but shut up that\'s not the point).

HOWEVER, Simon Cowell\'s now given us the biggest hint yet that Luigi will return to his Exey roots - albeit on the opposite side of the judging table - and pretty much confirmed that we\'ll see a member of One Direction as a judge one day.

Asked why he hired Rita over Louis (a question we ask ourselves every day), Simon said: "Going forward, one of these guys will do one of these shows [X Factor/Britain\'s Got Talent] with us.

"Louis in particular wants to and he\'d be very good, but in terms of girls, it was really Rita that we wanted – and thank God we got her."

Actually we\'re still hoping Von Tomlinson will make a surprise appearance at judges\' houses - 1D tour schedule permitting of course - particularly as this year that stage of the competition will be LIVE for the first time.

Yep, the acts will perform live at the houses (or fake houses, as the case may be) before finding out if they\'re through to the live shows in real time. Sounds like a logistical nightmare.

"This is either the best idea we\'ve ever had or the most stupid thing we\'ve ever done," admitted Uncle Si.

"Olly Murs is our safety measure. I\'m sure he\'s got his live set ready to go and we will just cut back to Olly\'s concert. I am not kidding. It\'s going to be chaos, but good chaos."
