I think that if they were to look back they might say that it was for the best, I don't know. They went through a lot of pain that I don't think they'd want to repeat.

However, Bella's knowledge of becoming a vampire and what it entailed was what made her a powerful newborn and prevented her from attacking humans. If he'd of changed her during/after prom she would have been the same as the others (not that that is a bad thing) and would've taken decades/centuries to control herself.

I also believe that they would go through all the pain again knowing that they'd end up together. I think that things went the right way.

Bella wouldn't befriend Jake, Nessie wouldn't exist, Jake wouldn't have formed his own pack, Bella and Rosalie wouldn't have bonded over protecting the baby..... loads of reasons to keep it going. Including having another 3 books and 4 films.
