I don't know. I think the Boyd-as-the-evil-mastermind trick would have worked better if they had more time to build up to it, but they had to rush it. I feel similarly about this as I do about Zack Addy (of Bones) being a (spoiler) murderer's apprentice. That happened in 2008, when the writers were striking, and thus they lost episodes, which may be why that twist never made sense either.
I was seriously... Chin on the ground drooling in complete dumbfounded-ness.I know When had only a little time to pull this together and we all know our Whedon... Master of Surprises. Kudos for rendering us speechless!
It was so sad and COMPLETELY unexpected, but such a good twist. And yeah I agree that it would have worked better if they had more time to build up to it. I wish this show never got cancelled. :(
In the episode when they revealed it I was so shocked... And all the things the characters said, I felt them too... Like when they said I did not see that one coming/ I trusted you / I loved you, I was feeling that too, cause I trusted he was a good guy and I really liked him...
Also I felt so bad for Whiskey, she was waiting and waiting for the jerk.
There are some things that happen on shows that are a great turn of events and you never saw them coming. For me, that was finding out that Dr. Saunders was a doll (even though other people predicted it- I didn't. And sometimes even when the surprising thing is sooo upsetting, it makes for great television so it's worth it (like for me when Angel turned into Angelus in season 2 of BtVS or Tara's death in season 6 of BtVS.... devastating stuff but it allowed amazing story lines to develop).
But I don't think this was one of them. I think Boyd being the head of Dollhouse was just wrong for the show. Had the show been given more time, I definitely think there should have been some dark past of Boyd's that's uncovered. Or maybe even that he started off as the head of Rossum but something happened and things changed and he left Rossum but then returned to the corporation as Echo's handler (maybe because he actually knew Caroline and wanted to protect her). I would have much preferred something like that... even if it was predictable cause it would reinforce the bond between Boyd and Echo. Kill off characters I love, sure...it breaks my heart, but it's what makes for good tv. But don't make everything I loved about a character and a relationship a lie.
I was so disappointed with Boyd being the head of Rossum cause it just ruined his character and everything I began to love about him & his relationship with Echo. It's the only thing I was disappointed with on the show (except for obviously it's short run).
The only way I saw him as the head guy was when they were keeping Echo in the glass room when she was breaking down and he didn't react at all.
I chalk it up to lost time, really.
