As asteriamalfoy recently reported on the club wall, it appears that Moana will soon become the newest member of the Disney Princess lineup. The club's reception to the news is a mixed bag, which is the latest example of how the general fanpop opinion (namely, this club's opinion) doesn't always match that of the internet. It's interesting why that is, and I will attempt to find the reason here.

Before going forward, be aware that everything that I consider an "opinion" of fanpop and/or the internet is a generalization. True, there are some users on both this website and the rest of the worldwide web who are in their respective minorities. This is merely a breakdown of how I see it and my attempt to get to the root of the issue -- why is Moana beloved in some places, but not in others? Time to find out.

The Difference of Opinion
I find that on Youtube, Disney-related sites (such as "Oh My Disney"), and other sites (Buzzfeed and the like), Moana is a well-liked character. The common reasons people like her from what I've seen are:

• She's responsible; even though she wants to explore the ocean, she does what's right and chooses to lead her people. And she enjoys it, too!
• She's self-reliant; she doesn't need to be constantly saved, and she can save the ngày pretty much on her own.
• On a related note, she "doesn't need a man."
• On a separate related note, she's quick-thinking and resourceful, hoặc what some people call "badass."
• She doesn't have the traditional look of a Disney Princess, i.e. no formal áo choàng and different body type. This gives her a new and perhaps thêm realistic look.
• She renounces the princess name.

Then bạn check out the DP club on Fanpop, and bạn find that generally, Moana is not particularly loved, for reasons including:

• She has little to no flaws.
• She doesn't have much of a personality.
• She's just a mish-mash of the princesses who came before her -- nothing new.
• She renounces the princess name.

That's quite a contrast in opinion, and maybe a little surprising that a place dedicated to the DPs generally doesn't take too kindly to her. I think I've discovered why this contrast exists, though.

The nguồn of the Difference
Perhaps this contrast is because people that bạn find elsewhere on the internet have a different set of character traits/qualities that they value than the ones on this club. From what I understand, the general internet crowd values Disney Princesses and heroines who:

• Add something new to the lineup
• Are strong and can work independently
• Are determined and don't give up
• Are admirable

On this club, I think we have a different set of values for DPs. We like those who:

• Add something new to the lineup
• Are realistic and/or relatable
• Stand for something positive regarding princess-hood, femininity, etc. without feeling forced hoặc too "in your face"
• Respect the DP franchise

Regarding the first bullet point -- I believe both sides like it when a princess/heroine adds something to the lineup, but it is seen in different ways. The internet seems to like how Moana invokes new positive qualities such as the desire and willingness to lead, which, let's be honest, hasn't been done with a DP before, at least not explicitly. I theorize that users on this club, including myself, consider all of the positive qualities of the character and how those stack up against the existing DPs, not just the new ones. For example, action-packed (Rapunzel), self-doubt (Pocahontas, Mulan), determined (Ariel), outspoken (Merida), and funny (Rapunzel, Anna) are all traits that we've seen in other princesses and heroines. The number of familiar traits can make the actual new traits seem like not enough.

However, I think the above argument is only a tiny part of why the fanpop opinion is thêm critical. The remaining bullet points are key. As stated, Moana does hiển thị a desire and willingness to lead her people, which would fit the desired element of saying something positive about princess-hood (er, leader-hood, hoặc how about just leadership). Is it in your face? I'm going to lean towards "no," but -- now I'm going to bring my own opinion into the mix -- it's one of the reasons I have difficulty latching onto her character. Despite Moana having this very positive quality going for her, she doesn't feel realistic to me. Her turn-around from wanting to sail the seas to being perfectly content staying and leading is just too sudden. With few flaws to balance it out, she comes across as a little too perfect to me. Perhaps this lack of realism and relatability is what others dislike, too.

It's often đã đưa ý kiến that a strong character is one who works through their flaws; ergo, a strong female character is one who works through her flaws. Moana might have flaws, but maybe they don't get the focus they need to make us think, "Oh yeah, she overcame that flaw, achieved her goals, and learned something from this adventure." If that's the case, then the positive femininity thing doesn't really work. It's almost too positive, hoặc impossibly positive. We need something thêm convincing if the takeaway is that a girl/lady/woman can achieve great things.

The biggest issue that Fanpoppers have with Moana comes from this line: "First off, I'm not a princess. I'm the daughter of the chief." This statement has not been well-received because for some, it implies that Moana is disrespecting the Disney Princess name. I shared that opinion too at one point. It may just be Disney poking fun at itself, but it can rub những người hâm mộ the wrong way. If this character who seemingly fits the DP mold can't appreciate the leading ladies who came before her...well, how the heck are we supposed to like her? Contrast this with the general internet's opinion, where people take it to mean that Moana doesn't have to be bogged down bởi the tiêu đề of princess; one can be a strong character without having a royal tiêu đề hoặc other high status. Or, maybe people like it because it detaches her from the princess stereotype that they can't stand.

The thêm I think about it, the thêm I think that line is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can be perceived as, "Oh yeah, bạn don't need to be a princess to save the ngày hoặc to be someone important hoặc worthwhile." On the other hand, one can perceive it as Moana being better than a princess, which can be taken as "Oh, bạn think you're better than the Disney Princesses, is that right?" hoặc "Yeah, the princess tiêu đề is just that -- a title. Not all heroines have to be princesses." Well, maybe there's a better message here. Instead of having your character say they're not a princess, why not embrace their princess-ness (or the equivalent -- daughter of a chief would be an equivalent), and then hiển thị us that đã đưa ý kiến character is a good, strong character? You'd be broadening your own definition of princesses to mean any good-natured, strong-willed female, which is exactly what the DP franchise is trying to do now with their gần đây video and slogan. Then, all of the princesses can be seen in a new and positive light.

Conclusions
Not to be too redundant, but I do believe that Moana's reception here versus on the rest of the internet boils down to what people want and like to see in Disney heroines, as well as how they interpret certain aspects of the character (or lines of dialogue, as discussed above). I think this is also the reason why những người hâm mộ can have such opposing các lượt xem on other characters, like Ariel hoặc Elsa. It can also be why some characters are sometimes seen favorably here, like the early princesses, but not much elsewhere. It all has to do with the specific set of traits we value. Moana's prospective introduction to the lineup brought this...for lack of a better term, "issue," to the spotlight, for me at least. Perhaps discussions like these will change some perceptions of characters for the better, even if just slightly, if people recognize the exact qualities that are being valued bởi other fans.

We 've learned a lot of lessons about live from Disney Princesses. We've learned the importance of support, the romance and the patience,
For Example, Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora,
They believe in their princes and are patient. Snow White is definately just like women of trước đó eras with their romances. She's shy and hides from the prince just like trước đó eras girls as talking to men was probably considered innapropriate in trước đó eras and that was probably what most women in her era did. They had no other choice that being patient and believe in their tình yêu interest. And furthemore, dream...

Now that I've seen Frozen, here's my danh sách as it currently stands. Certain princesses have grown on me, others have fallen. This danh sách isn't really concrete though.

13. Merida
The only princess I truly dislike. To me, she's the equivalent of Princess Fiona from Shrek, just a Disney Princess parody. A cookie cutter cliche. There's tiếp theo to nothing unique about her, and the few unique traits that she does have are awful ones, bad etiquette. Yeah, so for me, Merida is the redheaded stepchild of the DP line-up. Sorry.

12. Aurora
A regal and ethereal goddess with the voice of an angel. The epitome...

Yesterday, wrote an bài viết about my grievances with Merida and Brave, it's been deleted. I realized kind of being unreasonable and unfair to both Merida and her movies. Paying only attention to the negative, ignoring the positive and blowing the negative out of proportion. I don't wanna be a negative Nancy and biased hater. Because then I'd be the type of người hâm mộ I despise. Especially Ariel haters. So let me start over, with what I like about Merida and Brave.

What I like
-Her relationship with her mother is very well down, and very realistic. And to me, the only bright spot about the movie and...

There are lots of synonyms for selfishness. Try any dictionary online, hoặc a hard copy (remember those?), and bạn can see that these words share exactly the same meaning, if only stated in slightly different ways:
egoistic (also egoistical), egomaniacal, egotistic (or egotistical), narcissistic, self-absorbed, self-centered,self-concerned, self-infatuated, self-interested, self-involved, egocentric, self-loving, self-obsessed, self-oriented, self-preoccupied, self-regarding, self-seeking, self-serving, solipsistic ( credit provided to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary online link). Moving on with the series it's time to shed some tình yêu on my third yêu thích princess, Jasmine. From what I've seen, hoa nhài doesn't get nearly the tình yêu she deserves on here, so I hope I can give her at least a little bit of what she deserves. I apologize if this bài viết isn't as long hoặc well thought out as the first two, it doesn't mean I tình yêu hoa nhài any less, just that I'm not feeling as wordy as usual. Anyway, I hope bạn enjoy the bài viết and thanks for checking it out! =)

We're introduced to hoa nhài with a bit of a bang. I tình yêu how she stands her ground against her father and stands...

I'm not the best at describing looks, but I did it anyway. Here's my prettiest DP list!

13. Jasmine
There’s nothing really bad about her looks in particular, but she just has features that I don’t really find appealing. Her nose seems just a little bit too big for her face and while it does fit naturally I don’t like how it looks tiếp theo to her other features. Though her eyebrows are thick, I actually don’t mind them they do bring character to her and they aren’t really that big and since she has thick hair it would make sense. What really turns me off from Jasmine’s look is her eyes,...

1 = Ariel

Ariel's my prettiest. I know a lot of people would be totally against this opinion, because her hair doesn't look "natural," hoặc her body's "too thin;" but I absolutely tình yêu the way she looks. Her hair is thick and flows nicely, which I tình yêu A LOT, her eyes are a beautiful blue, and her skin seems to be a nice light tan/pale color. To me, she's absolutely beautiful.

Many people would call her "plain" and "just cute," but I find that she's really a beautiful person, and her looks add a lot on. I really do like her hair, long hoặc not,...

I'm not at all confident in this list, but either way I tình yêu talking about the princesses and thought this bài viết was long overdue (Well I've only been here..what? Two weeks? Eh, it still feels long overdue to me). ^^ Beforehand I'd like to say that I tình yêu all the princesses, even my least favorite. As a group the princesses mean so much to me and as individuals I tình yêu them all to pieces, so don't feel bad if your yêu thích is low! The danh sách is also divided into three sections because within those sections I'm really not sure how the princesses rate, but I know they're somewhere around that...

Since I did an bài viết about my yêu thích Princesses I thought what the heck! why not do an bài viết about the Prince's after what is a Princess without her except Merida and Elsa of course :)

11- Prince
While this prince is sweet and kind like his princess having only one tim, trái tim and one both for her sadly we don't get to see much of him and therefore it's somewhat hard
to depict much of his personality.

10- Prince Charming
Like the Prince I'm afraid for me falls into the same thuyền unless even with the sequels I find it hard to depict his personality except that he is very determined and daring...

Hello all, this bài viết is pretty much what the tiêu đề says. I have had some boring time lately and I just started listing some of my thoughts on paper, and then I got the evil idea to write bài viết about it. So this is all about my opinions and thoughts and bạn all freely may hoặc may not agree with them. I actually have very little theories here, and most of them are completely lunatic, but let's hope bạn get at least some amuse from them. I have listed my opinions very bluntly without any greater explanations because I wanted this to be short and clear(and I don't like to write a lot).

Bonjour!

So there are lots of beautiful women in Disney - however only the Princesses seem to be recognised for it. Today I've decided to acknowledge some of the other Disney Heroines who are stunning, but who rarely get the recognition. They deserve it!
(No particular order, btw).

Slew Foot Sue
Melody Time

I'm not sure if many of bạn have seen Melody Time - it's a little bit like Fantasia bởi putting âm nhạc to stories. But there's a girl in the story of "Pecos Bill" (who happens to be Bill's tình yêu interest) who is actually quite pretty. Red hair; a colour that represents that of Ariel contrasts...

I'd really tình yêu to make an bài viết on my yêu thích Disney Princesses, but my danh sách still isn't final and I've still got some things here and there to sort out, so I opted out for a prettiest princess danh sách instead. I find all of the princesses to be gorgeous beforehand, though some I just find a little prettier than others! ^^ Anyway, I hope bạn enjoy this article!

Possibly a bit of an unpopular opinion, but Belle is without a doubt my least prettiest princess. Even not considering her inconsistent phim hoạt hình she still doesn't seem to be much of anything special to me. She's got a unique...

There was a very được ưa chuộng bài viết made a long time cách đây about the origins of Disney princesses names and I wanted to do something with the names of Disney princes. These names will be done in a ngẫu nhiên order and some princes will be left out for various reasons (such as SOMEBODY not even having a name).

1. Adam
Adam is the Hebrew term for man. I think this is pretty obvious because according to the Bible, Adam was the first man created. In a way it is fitting that the Beast is called Adam once he is transformed back as he is human again and now a man not a beast.

Another name meaning is red. This...
