Merida's condition gradually worsened. The cut on her leg was badly festered, she was still unconscious, her breathing was rapidly slowing down, and she spiked a fever. Mulan, Shang, Pocahontas, and John were waiting anxiously outside Kekata's tent. It wasn't long before Chief Powhatan joined them. "How is the girl?" he asked. "Not so good father." Pocahontas answered sadly. "In times like this, we must be strong for her." Powhatan replied. Mulan had tears welling up in her eyes.

"Excuse me for a moment." she said. She went to Powhatan's teepee and began to cry. She couldn't stand the devastation that was occurring. Chief Powhatan entered the teepee. "I know how bạn are feeling, my child." he said. Mulan wiped her tears as she turned towards his direction. "We must be strong for Rebel." Powhatan stated. "Rebel?" Mulan questioned. Powhatan smiled. Rebel was Powhatan's nickname for Merida.

"Rebel has been a loyal friend to bạn and my daughter. And right now, she needs us. This is the time we come together and give each other strength." Powhatan đã đưa ý kiến wisely. (A/N: In case you're wondering, Merida has sepsis. Sepsis is also known as Septic Shock, and if it was uncommon/unheard of back then, I'm trying to make it sound that way just in case.)
