zanhar1 Worst part is, if a waitress or an immigrant tried to evade taxes they'd be fined to hell and back and possibly arrested. But if the 1% does it then they get a slap on the wrist if even that.

ThePrincesTale ^Yeeeeeeeep. Unfortunately this is far from exceptional - billionaires/millionaires avoid paying taxes. Tax evasion is pretty much standard operation practice for these people and the IRS seems to take a hands-off attitude; indeed, the bigger the cheat, the less likely the IRS is to bother them. All of the force and terror of the IRS and the Department of Justice are brought to bear against the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder; those at the top are generally given a pass -- unless, like Al Capone, their taxes can be used as leverage to hold them accountable for other crimes for which the government lacks sufficient evidence for prosecution. The exposure of the myriad of loopholes that allow the 1% to avoid taxes should be rocking the country in a time of hyper-unemployment and collapsing economic ecosystem... There's a bigger story here than just the 2020 election.

How does God speak to you?

People of that time (and a lot of today's people) had the habit of inventing and discarding gods as they felt like it. God declares that He alone is the true God, worthy of all worship. In one sense what God ultimately demands -- OBEDIENCE -- has not changed since Old Testament days. But God teaches the Israelites much as a parent must teach a young child -- with dozens of clearly spelled-out rules.

Time alone to speak with God is essential.

In the Old Testament God begins with a single couple, Adam and Eve. He puts them in a perfect world with certain rules to obey. They flunk! The first eleven chapters of Genesis mostly record one failure after another. God punishes Adam and Eve, destroys the world with a massive flood, and smashes a misguided rebellion at the tower of Babel.
God reaches down and selects a man named Abraham, to whom He gives some extraordinary promises. He promises that Abraham's descendants will some ngày become as numerous as sand on a beach, and that they will grow to become a mighty nation with their own land....
