I need freedom.

Realistically, me being my cooperative pushover self, I'd probably suffer in silence. Good thing it's Merida in this position and not me! 😆

I have been cowed a lot in my relationships, and could not find it in me to do what Merida did: forcibly change someone else's mind for them.

So, I'd opt to leave the situation behind, and get away like Ariel did. In my experience, changing what people want to believe never works. They have to come to it on their own, or not at all.

I wouldn't poison my own mother to get what I want, though.

If I'm in Merida's position, it's not just having to marry because of tradition but rather because if I don't WAR WILL BREAK OUT AND PEOPLE WILL GET HURT! I'd prefer to have my freedom and would try to get it in a way that's more diplomatic and reasonable than Merida did. I wouldn't embarrass her parents and the Lords or poison my mother in order to get my freedom. If in the end my attempts didn't work, I would give in and follow tradition. It wouldn't just be my happiness at stake, it would also be my family, the people fighting for me, and all the innocent people who had nothing to do with any of this. While I care about my happiness, I care about the well-being of other people more and couldn't live with myself if war was happening all because of me, unlike Merida who jokes about it saying "We'll expect your declarations of war in the morning" like people having to suffer because of her was nothing.

I would probably go for a happy medium, and go somewhere else and do my own thing once I'm about 18. But if I had to choose what I wanted to do versus what I'll most likely do, it'd be this. You should never give into oppression or doing something you don't want to do for the rest of your life, though I do have a tendency to go with the flow. If the tradition isn't that bad I probably wouldn't have any problems, but if I felt I'd be miserable I'd definitely choose how to live my own life.

Nobody tells me what to do!
