Charmian Carr, known for her role as Liesl Von Trapp in
Carr's family announced she died Saturday in Woodland Hills of complications from a rare form of dementia. 
Carr was born on Dec. 27, 1942, in Chicago. She was 21 when she sang the popular "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" as the oldest Von Trapp sister in the Academy Award-winning
(1965), starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

After she left the movie business, Carr started a design company called Charmian Carr Design, which attracted Michael Jackson as a client.

Carr is survived by her siblings Sharon, Darleen, Michael and Brian; daughters Jennifer and Emily; niece Julie; and grandchildren Emma, Derek, William and Tucker.
