I plan to write a full bài viết on Heimdalls Stenar for a print publication, so this soapbox for fanpop is just a short overview meant to explain the hình ảnh I am about to upload. Many fanpop members will glance at them and be like "umm ok, rocks in a field... big deal."
Well, it is a big deal.
I am sure bạn are all familiar with Stonehenge in the UK. It has been touristified to hell and back. The thing is, there are bigger and older henges throughout Châu Âu than Stonehenge. The biggest and oldest was Ales Stenar in the Skåne region of Sweden. Ales Stenar is a Viking Henge sitting on a glorious cliff overlooking the Baltic Sea. It is breathtaking, free, and bạn can walk amongst those stones all bạn wish.
As of the middle of December 2007, though, Ales Stenar is no longer the king of Stones. The discovery of Heimdalls Stenar just up the road knocked Ales Stenar off the hàng đầu, đầu trang of the heap.
Heimdalls is in the process now of authentication and dating. It was discovered in a field bởi Swedish Archaeologist Bob Lind. As I said, it is bigger even than Ales Stenar, and it is believed to be older as well.
These stones were knocked down over time and buried in the Earth for who knows how long. As soon as everything is examined and all that stuff, they plan to excavate every rock and reset them as they originally were.
These images, then, are some of the first photographs of this very important historic find. The best of them have already been sold to various newspapers and magazines. (sorry Fanpop, but sometimes it is all about the money.) However, there have been very few early hình ảnh đã đăng to the Internet, so bạn get those points ;)
The bottom line is that even though they may appear to be, as my husband so eloquently put it: "Stones covered with cow shit," they are very important stones...
Keep your ears open. The Swedish Historical Society is involved now, and as they learn thêm about Heimdalls Stenar I am sure it will begin to flood the news.
Also, I had to do a bit of detective work and rely on just plain luck to even find the place as it is being kept fairly hush-hush until they are ready for the big unveiling... bạn owe me, man.
