Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, Midnight Red. Three boy bands, one night. While the first two may sound familiar, chances are Midnight Red does not. But they will soon, if they have anything to say about it.

A brand new boy band, Midnight Red is produced bởi RedOne, the same guy behind the success of Lady Gaga’s first album, “The Fame.” Midnight Red is already on the way to following her path. Their song, “One Club At A Time,” was recently named one of three National Dance ngày Songs.

Boy band những người hâm mộ read on for an exclusive interview with band member Colton Rudloff and your chance to learn what Midnight Red is all about.

How long have bạn been singing?

"I’ve been seriously hát since about 7th grade, but secretly bởi myself. I didn’t start telling people I sang until about 8th hoặc 9th grade. I started hát because of American Idol"

Did bạn ever try out?

“I’ve done it a couple times. When I was 16 I did make it to a few rounds and got to meet Paula, Simon, and Randy. Once I met them they đã đưa ý kiến I was too young to really compete.”

How did bạn tham gia Midnight Red?

“I was the 5th member added. There was the original group that started with Anthony and Eric and then Thomas was brought in from Texas and Joey was brought in bởi another producer. They just needed one thêm guy.

They were searching and holding auditions, but they couldn’t find anyone they liked enough. They searched on YouTube and I was the first guy who came up... When they called I was already out here. I had been found on YouTube bởi a different person who brought me out to LA to be a lead singer of a pop rock cover band. And then I got an email from Eric's mom and she đã đưa ý kiến there’s this boy band and they’re looking for another member.

I kinda went behind then other bands back and auditioned, took a leap of faith. It was the best leap of faith I could have taken.”

When did bạn start making YouTube videos?

“When I started putting video online when I was 17, 18 it was just for fun. I didn’t think anything would come out of it.”

Who are your inspirations?

“For me, a lot of it stems from American Idol. I got to sit down week for week, they were different genres, different decades of singing. Kelly Clarkson being the first one to win American Idol, she’s really the first artist I’ve been able to know from the first. She’s the first person I ever honed in on and stuck with . As far as hát goes I really tình yêu Adam Levine from Maroon 5, Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic. I really like Stevie wonder. A lot of boys in the band like Adam Levine, Stevie Wonder and Ryan Tedder. But what’s great is that all five of us are so different from where we pull from, what we really like. It gives everyone their own little edge.”

What’s it like performing with New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys?

“We do our hiển thị and then we go out to the audience. We sneak around and watch the show. Their những người hâm mộ are crazy, die hard. I’ve never seen so many hands in the air — girls of all ages too. It’s everybody.

Actually watching them has been really helpful for us each show, we feel thêm comfortable each show. Our tiếp theo hiển thị is going to be even better because we’ve been capitalizing on just watching them. It’s the best ‘how-to’ video every night.”

When you’re opening for them, do bạn sing your rendition of the New Kids on the Block song “Step bởi Step?”

“No, that’d be really weird if we performed it and then they performed it... We didn’t want to try and outdo them bởi any means, but bạn know, pay homage to them with the song.”

Did bạn expect “One Club at a Time” to take off?

“For me, personally, and I know the other boys in the group would một giây this, we didn’t know what to expect from the first single. This is just so new for us in every way.”

What makes Midnight Red different from other boy bands?

“I know a lot of boy bands from growing up. I’ve always been really into that. But one thing that really sets us apart is we don’t really have that lead singer kind of person. Every person in the group really has their place and really has their chance to do their part for the group. It’s so nice to be part of this group because no one gets to stand in the background. Everyone gets their part, it becomes a team effort.

Everyone has a super different personality and we get along really well too. We go through the mall and people are like ‘Why are these kids hanging out together?’ But it makes sense because of the tình yêu we have for music. Coming together with the single purpose of making this boy-band thing come back.”

How are bạn guys with dancing?

“It’s a pretty even chẻ, phân chia, split between the group about who is a dancer and who started dancing for the group. When I was younger I started doing dancing, but Anthony and Eric are trained dancers.

They danced for us before we auditioned and I remember thinking okay that’s a rap, I’m not going to be able to do this. They were doing these dance moves like they were no problem. It took us awhile to get into it and now we can keep up too.

I never thought I’d have this much fun dancing on stage... I have a harder time on this choreography, but we all help each other. Anthony and Eric are awesome, they get us to the point where we can be so connected. I never thought it would be possible for us to do this.”

What’s your yêu thích song to perform?

“I would say my yêu thích song to perform is the middle one, “Body Talk.” There are these few grooves in the dance that are just really fun to get to and just aesthetically it looks really cool. I’m always nervous that it’s not going to go down right. We learned the choregoraphy for that song in one ngày and knocked it out and we all started performing in that groove.

Are bạn guys excited about performing in Hershey?

“We’re really excited for Saturday. We’re really hoping to get to Hershey Park. Thomas is a major Sô cô la lover. I’m really looking phía trước, chuyển tiếp to going around PA. I tình yêu the whole scenery. Living in the city bạn get used to it, but bạn hit some back roads and it feels like home.”

Any final words?

“RedOne is producing the album. If it weren’t for RedOne we wouldn’t be on the tour, our record deal wouldn’t be taken up as it did. He really believed in us. If it weren’t for him giving us the push we wouldn’t be here.”
