Meghan Markle\'s Sister Says Romance with Prince Harry Is \'About Love\' Not \'Royalty\'

Meghan Markle may be engaged to a prince, but his royal status has nothing to do with their love.

, Samantha Markle — Meghan’s sister — opened up about her sibling’s engagement to Prince Harry, gushing that their relationship is “not about royalty.”

Speaking live from Florida, Samantha began the chat with 

hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid by describing Meghan. “As you can imagine, she’s very creative, charming, lovely, full of life, very vibrant, and she’s never changed,” Samantha said. “She’s just so sweet and charming. I’ve seen that so much in her recently. She’s overwhelmingly happy. So all that comes out. It’s nice!”

It was when she was asked if she could believe her younger sister would be marrying into royalty, though, that Samantha made it clear that royalty was far from Meghan and her family’s mind.

“It’s lovely, but I have to say I think what’s more important to our family, and certainly to her, is that you find the person that’s the best fit for you, that you love, that really makes you happy,” Samantha said. “I don’t think it’s so much who he is in terms of royalty as who he is as a man. I can see she’s just bubbling. It’s so charming and so warm.”

“When I watch her with him it’s very real and normal,” Samantha continued. “You know, we only get that once in a lifetime if we’re lucky. It’s not about royalty so much as it is about love. And that’s wonderful for them.”

While Samantha wouldn’t give up any details as to whether Harry had asked for their father Tom Markle’s permission before popping the question to Meghan, she did say that he is “excited” and “very proud.”

“Naturally, as you can imagine, [he’s] very happy because doesn’t every father want his daughter’s happiness?” Samantha asked. “He knows that she’s happy and moving forward I can say that he’s elated, as we all are.”

She added: “We really want her to be happy and we are.”

Since Meghan met Harry in July 2016 and began dating, her family has come under the scrutiny of tabloid reporters. But Samantha urged 

that “most of that” negative press is just a “media construct.”

“At the end of the day, we’re very normal,” she said. “Moving forward, we’re going into the holidays. This is a joyous occasion! So any sort of misconception that is out there, we need to let bygones be bygones and really be happy moving forward.”

“This is so special and important that all of that is silly,” she said.

Samantha ended her interview by giving Meghan, who is set to walk down the aisle in Spring 2018, a special message.

“I just want to say I love you, I’m incredibly happy for you,” Samantha said. “Cheers and to a wonderful life.”

“If I had a glass of champagne I would toast, but it’s three in the morning and we don’t drink at three in the morning!” she joked.
