Hello everyone, so this review is on the Sybil Kathigasu mini series biopic who bravely defied the Japanese Occupation of Malaya. Ready?
The Story
So, the story starts out with Sybil having a normal life with her family. Unfortunately, this happens in the midst of World War II and it happens around the same time that my grandma (RIP) was force into marriage age 16!
Sybil worked desperately to fight with the Guerillas and sadly was captured bởi the Japanese soldiers in the end. I totally salute her for that, in fact we have a đường phố, street name after her in her honour here in Ipoh!
It was also sad that her youngest daughter had allegedly committed suicide and there was no record of her after her marriage. Olga Kathigasu outlived both her mother and sister until her death on 6th September 2014, I saw her in the flash 12 years cách đây when there was a play about her mother which came to Ipoh. Really tim, trái tim wrenching and painful to watch, to say the least!
The Cast
I was so impressed with Elaine Daly's diễn xuất as the tiêu đề character, ironically Elaine is Sybil Kathigasu's grand-niece and I was really surprise bởi this when I first found out about this fun fact. Elaine's diễn xuất really amazed me and I have to salute her for that!
When I first saw her, I could NOT recognise Elaine at all thanks to the make-up departments. As a matter of fact, she resembles Sybil!
A couple of the supporting cast I actually knew and I am really amazed bởi their diễn xuất as well. So, a round of applause for them too.
The Setting
Considering that I grew up in Ipoh, the setting is actually set here in Ipoh. As mentioned, there is a đường phố, street name after her and I am glad that the museum is still around.
I Salute bạn Sybil
This bài viết is really sad when nghề viết văn this and I am very happy that Sybil is look up to as a heroine during World War II alongside Lim Bo Seng, her Singaporean counterpart.
