Well, technically Bella was actually "with" Jacob.
She just spent heaps of time with him and they got really close. They may have liked each other, but they weren't "together".
And Jacob knew that she loved Edward. So she didn't actually dump him at all.

Bella is a naive thinking that she should be able to have both Jacob and Edward. She blatantly used Jacob knowing that she would never want to be with Jacob. The reason that Edward has so much self-control, is so boring, is because he is 109 years old.
