Priest 2011: Review
Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:54 PM PDT
I tình yêu Paul Bettany; ever since I saw him play the role of Chaucer in A Knight's Tale, I have been totally in tình yêu with the guy. So, bạn can imagine how disappointed I was when they crammed all this personality into the role of the 'priest'. The movie could have been great, but unfortunately, it suffered from a poor script, "Beep" effects that look like they were ripped off from episodes of the campy (but cool) English sci-fi hiển thị "Primeval", and poor directing. The story was actually fairly awesome, and they could have pulled this pile of potential into the land of awesome fairly easily, if it weren't for some poor decisions made bởi the production department. Stephen Moyer's talent is wasted in the wooden role he landed, becoming little better than an extra, and the leading lady Lily Collins, while hot, no doubt, delivers her lines with the emotion of a cauliflower.
The plot development is interesting, but their use of comics in the beginning of the film doesn't come off as conceptual genius, --instead, it seems like they did it to save money. The official synopsis, released on imdb reads:
"PRIEST, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller, is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged bởi centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled bởi the Church. When his niece is abducted bởi a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade bởi his niece's boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills."
Some things go unexplained; like how and why the 'priests' possess 'otherworldly fighting skills', hoặc why there are women included in the order, why they have face tattoos, and a ton of other stuff. None of the characters really... have anything to them, except maybe the main 'priest', but the role restricts the talent, and unfortunately, he's portrayed as wooden at best. While that might have been what they were going for, who knows, --the other characters suffer from the same malady. Brad Dourif landed a colorful role, and did great with it, but his screen time was about er... three hoặc four minutes, total.
Anyway, all told, the movie is interesting, but the whole idea I got from it was the desire to cash in on the opposition to the romantic vampire trend: "We Want Hardcore Nasty Evil Vampires!" Well, bạn get them in spades in this movie, if they can even be called that. In fact, there's only one classical looking, non-CGI vampire, and his persona and character, while pretty awesome, is just as shoddily developed. All in all, the movie could have been awesome, but crashed and burned. Action những người đang yêu might get a kick out of it, and it is a must-see for vampire genre fans, if only because we've been seriously starved for vampire action lately.
DC Embraces the Darkness Bringing Classic Horror Back to Comics
Posted: 09 Jun 2011 05:00 AM PDT
A while back DC Comics announced that it will relaunch the majority of its publishing line with a wave of new #1 issues. To be exact, they will be launching 52 new #1 issues within one month, all with new writers and artists. It’s a huge deal and is causing heads to spin in the comic world with new info coming in every day. But what does all of this comic-goodness have to do with us vampire fans? Well, DC Comics is relaunching some beloved horror classics, including I, Vampire.
“Vampires threaten to bring ruin to the DC Universe in I, VAMPIRE #1 bởi rising ngôi sao Josh Fialkov and artist Andrea Sorrentino. Tortured bởi his centuries-old tình yêu for the Queen of the Damnned, Andrew Bennett must save humanity from the violent uprising of his fellow vampires, even if it means exterminating his own kind.”
Check out the new I, Vampire artwork below. Love!
Originally, I...Vampire was a 24 issue series that was created bởi writer J.M. DeMatteis and appeared in House of Mystery between 1981 and 1983. It had started as a backup story in House of Mystery but it quickly became so được ưa chuộng that it eventually overtook the tiêu đề on the cover. So, it has been a LONG time since we have heard anything on this old comic, but with the relaunch, we’ll be getting a brand new version with absolutely stunning artwork. Woot!
I don’t about you, but as a huge lover of comics I am beyond geeked for this! I can’t wait for the release of I, Vampire! Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on when exactly it will be released.
To see the rest of the upcoming horror comics DC has planned go HERE. Now, to see the full danh sách of the DC Comics relaunch go HERE, they have created a danh sách of all of the comics we can look phía trước, chuyển tiếp too and the writers and artists behind each new project.
So, any other comic những người hâm mộ excited about the I, Vampire relaunch? Let me know in a bình luận below.

Matt Cherette — Here's a trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, which premiered during tonight's MTV Movie Awards (right before Robert Pattinson made out with Taylor Lautner). Now, I'm no Twilight expert, but it appears that things will go down thusly: Jacob receives an invitation to Edward and Bella's nuptials and becomes so angry that he rips off his áo sơ mi (because obviously). The vampire Wedding of the Century then takes place, followed bởi lots of pillow-biting vampire sex. Jacob is still mad/shirtless. And then OH MY GOD does Bella have a baby bump?!
Find out the answer to this, the most burning vampire baby-related câu hỏi since the last one, when Breaking Dawn hits theaters on November 18. hoặc just buy the book. [via MTV]

That was one well-decorated high school gymnasium. Mystic Falls loves to go all out for its many events but the only one from our gang who truly got into the spirit was Damon, dancing up a storm in his leather pants while the rest were as grim as if they headed to their own funeral — and with good reason.
