Hetalia Article: Really Hetalia fandom.....really?

This may not be the best place to post it but this is something I feel the need to share and see if there's anyone else who feels the same way.

I tình yêu Hetalia, but there's stuff in the fandom that tends to ruin the whole thing for me. So here's my danh sách of things that annoy me about the Hetalia fandom.
Note: I do respect my fellow Hetalians and I'm sorry if this offends anyone in any way, it wasn't meant to.

1) Hetalia is a COMEDY! Not a World History class! Yes at times it does teach bạn some pretty interesting stuff, but it's meant to be told through an inaccurate, stereotypical, comical portrayal. And it does make history thêm fun to learn about, but don't act like bạn know everything about history because of it.

2) How some people seem to revolve the whole series around sex and the pairings and what not. When the real Hetalia has nothing to do with yaoi. If bạn like Yaoi that's cool, we all have different things that interest us and if bạn like it that's fine. But please take it somewhere else! Because it's freaking annoying seeing chanting about, "Yaoi/Fangirling/Fainting/Nosebleeds/Squealing/blah blah blah" Take those sort of things to a video that actually has something to do with Yaoi instead of ruining the Hetalia video that are non yaoi. Like when I finish watching an episode of Hetalia in which I don't see anything sexual at all, just good old regular Hetalia with the stereotypes and comedy and history, but nothing sexual, I go down to post a comment, I see half of the bình luận section filled with pervertedness (yes I realize that's not a real word), and it ruins the whole hiển thị for me.
Seriously, not only are bạn kind of people pushing others away from watching Hetalia, but you're spoiling the hiển thị for others who are already fans.

And it's annoying when people say things like "so and so is gay, hoặc so and so is bi, hoặc all of the Hetalia characters are gay hoặc bi". In the fandom they may be portrayed that way but don't say that about the actual character in the real Hetalia because most of the time there's no apparent evidence supporting it from the anime hoặc manga. Most of the time it's just your peoples headcanons.
bạn just can't casually state things like that, because when bạn constantly say that kind of stuff it makes people start to believe it's true, besides, that's Himaruya's decision to decide. And so far he's only confirmed the sexuality of two characters. Sweden who is homosexual, and France who is bisexual.
Also I should mention I am not against homosexuals in any way, I fully support gay rights. If there were thêm characters confirmed with a sexuality I wouldn't really care, it just annoys me when the những người hâm mộ talk about it like it's canon when it's not.

One thêm thing I feel I need to add. It's a shame when the những người hâm mộ have to go and ruin such sweet innocent pure brotherly moments with "yaoi". If bạn think a fanart picture of Chibitalia kissing Austria's cheek hoặc England hát Phantom of the Opera to Chibi America is "yaoi" hoặc "perverted", then I can't help but feel you're a sicko. Seriously, what is so wrong with kissing the cheek of your father? hoặc hát a lullaby to your baby brother/son?
Grow up!

Again, if bạn like Yaoi that's fine, I'm not trying to offend anyone, but please shut up about it for once.

3) Speaking of sickos, people who find rape and pedophilia humorous. When the hell was this ever acceptable!?!
Ever since I've started getting into Hetalia I've seen some pretty weird stuff in the fandom, but it amazes me the level of sickness and disgust that the fandom reaches. For instance when people constantly label some of the characters as "rapists" hoặc "pedophiles". hoặc seeing disturbing fanart like, Spain lifting Chibi Romano's dress and glancing up towards his...yeah. Also probably the most disturbing I've come across, England trying to remove kid America's clothing with an evil smile as kid America is helpless and scared. I highly regret seeing this one especially.
But oh no, it gets thêm disturbing than that. Then bạn scroll down to the các bình luận and see nothing but positive "funny" các bình luận like "lol, bạn pedo", hoặc "You so gunna get raped!"

Grow up people! Please grow up from your immature cruelty! Because rape and pedophilia may be funny to you, but for others it's not even close.
It doesn't even make sense in the first place, Spain, he's fond of children, so that means he's sexually attracted to them? In that case we might as well label every teacher off as a pedophile.
France, he's perverted, but does that mean he's actually ever tried to rape anyone? Did bạn not hear him in that one episode saying "love is something bạn shouldn't force on others".

It's just not right to find this kind of stuff humorous while the victims of it are suffering from the memories of a very horrible traumatic experience, hoặc parents every ngày who are morning over the loss of their son hoặc daughter to a child molester.

I know bạn guys are perverts but really think about what you're saying, there's a line that is being crossed here!

4) People who soil history with Hetalia.

I understand that bạn guys like Hetalia and are trying to promote it. I tình yêu both Hetalia and history. But don't go to a history video, hoặc article, hoặc anywhere else just to bình luận about Hetalia. Because there's people who aren't there just because of Hetalia who bạn are annoying. There's some people who actually like to take history seriously. Those countries mentioned in terms of history actually exist as thêm than just anime characters. So if you're not there to learn about the actual history, why even bother? One hoặc two comments, fine. But hundreds?!? I mean, all I wanted to do was go to a video to learn about the Kingdom of Prussia, and considering Prussia isn't most commonly known outside of Hetalia, I expected a few comments. But I literally had to go through 7 pages before I could find a bình luận about the actual Prussia! And when I hear stories about people that were in the same history class with a Hetalian it was always just..."OH MY GOSH I LEARNED THAT FROM ANIME!" *teacher says the word "Germany"* "DOITSU!" *teacher mentions something about an invasion* "LOL YAOI!" .__.

5) How people are always asking the most ridiculous các câu hỏi about Hetalia when if they were to just pick up a history book they would get their answer. For example, I always hear các câu hỏi like "Is HRE and Germany the same person?"
Well I wouldn't really consider this a ridiculous question. I've seen a lot thêm ridiculous ones than this. It just bugs me when people answer yes to this but they only think so because of how similar the two look, when they should rely thêm on history to answer it instead of appearance.
Edit: Ok so I kind of worded this a little wrong but what I basically mean is that bạn shouldn't make silly assumptions about history because of Hetalia.
Example:

"America how could you! Stupid Revolutionary War, How could bạn hurt Iggy like that!?!"
-Because Britain was being controlling and America just wanted freedom for him and his people.

Ok, so sorry if I came out wrong on that one but please take your time to research real history. Like I đã đưa ý kiến in the 1st one Hetalia isn't totally accurate so don't make such assumptions about history from it.

6) Don't take someone's nationality and apply it to Hetalia. So just because someone is American, don't say their "stupid". Just because someone is Russian don't call them "creepy". Just because someone is Canadian don't constantly ignore them hoặc say "who" each time their name comes up. Hetalia is a hiển thị that is supposed to hiển thị bạn how ridiculous stereotypes are, so don't go promoting them! Not only is it childish but it's just plain horrible!

So that was something that I just wanted to get off my chest. Some of this stuff is just awful. I can imagine Hima-papa himself having his fair share of face palms because of the fandom.

Hetalia fandom, please stop ruining Hetalia. Please stop turning Hetalia into something it's not.

Those people deserve to sit in a chair, and have the chair fall apart beneath them. And then everybody laughs. The would deserve every second of it.

unicorns0109 I totally agree with the whole list!!! And yeah, I'll admit, when I heard in a history video on youtube "then Gremany invaded the lower regions of Italy", I did laugh. BUT I DIDN'T LEAVE A BILLION COMMENTS THAT SAID "Lol Doitsu u perv" or whatever. Nice list again~

NeonPinkcatfish I agree SO MUCH! Though... I'm still fangirling (not in a overreacted way, more like, "eek !"(≧o≦) inside my head) and have 'nosebleeds'... But that's because of when people draw ( Lol, didn't know what else to write, I kinda hate to use that word xD) fanart (Not yaoi, I'm REALLY not into that) 0///0. I admit, I've made a fan video and I'm kinda obsessed with Hetalia, but not that much that got to my head (or what you say) Well.. I also learned a little from Hetalia, e.g.: That Prussia was 'named' Teutonic Knights before he/it became Prussia. I also remember alot of country flags now, because It helps when you think of the character from Hetalia. E.g.; When I'm having a history class and the teacher is talking about Ukraine, then I automatically think of Ukraine (The character) and then I would be like: "Oh yeah, Ukraine has a blue and yellow flag!". (sorry if i wrote something wrong or you didn't understand what I wrote, English isn't my 'Mother language')

Sir_Kiwi This is a good article. I [i]especially[/i] agree with #4. It just really peeves me when someone mentions Hetalia that is not Hetalia related. I find it so immature. And then there's people who laugh at maps, and I don't see anything funny. GOOD GOD, it's just a fucking MAP. What's so funny about geography??? Last I checked, the countries represented the nations as a whole, not the LAND. Oh my god. And then there's the other people that are tagging their Hetalia stuff on Tumblr with just the country names. Uh, no. You either add APH or Hetalia before or after the country name! Ex: APH England. That's how you tag the characters. Be respectful to those who don't want anything to do with it. And the worst type of people are the ones that start crying in History class, saying "OMG MY FEELZ!!1!!1!!!!" It's a fucking History class, not an episode of Hetalia. Those are like the worst things that people do. Honestly, this fandom is bad, but I love the anime.

nihonphilia I really think Hetalia is funnier if you know the history. It is very possible to go to far with the references, especially at first, but people do need to know when to stop. And it is annoying when people push their gay shippings onto everyone else, and accuse the characters of being things that they're not. This is very worrying to those who just started watching the anime, and can't know if it's true or not. And--don't kill me for this--but fascism really isn't that bad. It's just a political system, not any more horrible than any other.

kaito_1412 Totally agree. But, I study history with Hetalia-style (only for personification and some humor, the rest is history) . It's easier to remember.

mxxnyy FINALLY the truth has been spoken! I agree with you completely! I especially agree with #4. Just the other day, I was a bit curious (like I usually am) and wanted to learn some history, so I started looking up some countries, reading about them, learning their history. Not once did I NOT come across comments that were Hetalia related. This fandom kind of worries me. We all try to give our fandom a good reputation, then there are THOSE people who come in and make it seem like the whole Hetalia fandom is a bunch of crazy sickos. Kinda sick of it.

rockyroad_3697 I also agree on the yaoi part. and things "gay" or "bi" about it. I fell in love with the series [yes, pretty much enjoyed it] because it's fun watching a short series with countries in human form, that is in a good way. I like it. But recently I've been seeing more and more yaoi-related stuff about it, and it disturbs me. well, the characters are mostly male, but what I see in hetalia is more of the friendship/family kind of relationship... and I really didn't like how most people I knew who were introduced to the series reacted when they comment about hetalia... they say it's gay and weird. It saddens me.

Valkrie562 I'm really happy that you think this way. 1: Hetalia did get me more interested in history but i never really took it too seriously because it is just for laughs 2:Yaoi is cute, I've got nothing against it, but when people start going TOO far with pairings and go turning the episodes with siblings into @#$%, then I'm really annoyed. I feel like only a small percentage of the fans actually like the show for comedy and the characters and their hatred/friendliness with other characters 3:I agree. My best friend is a pervert and i sometimes have to put her back in line "in a totally friendly way" but i wouldn't consider her a rapist. I mean for gods sake she is one of the nicest people i have ever met. It really makes me sick that people can laugh at rape because that is not cool. 4:That would be annoying. InfinityDie As much I hate it, I am that type of fangirl who squeals during history class. I now try to keep myself down when I realized how annoying it was, but last year I literally made my history teacher watch some of the show. That's how horrible I was. I feel bad for him, but at least he enjoyed the show. >.< The others I 100% agree with, and I'm glad someone finally spoke up about it. ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE SHIPPING. I understand you want to protect your 'OTP', but god, other people have different opinions. When I ship a ship in Hetalia, I actually do some research about their history. Just open a textbook, shippers, it's not that hard.

KEYanime I seriously love you! When I was younger, I loved Hetalia, so I looked for some fan doujin. There was only 2 I could find that were not yaoi. I accidentally read a lemon, and I had nightmares about it! SHIPPING NATIONS? REALLY?! HETALIA IS NOT YAOI! STAPH IT STOP STEREOTYPING EVERY SINGle COUNTRY BASED OFF HETALIA. OtakuJJ Oh my gosh yes! Only two characters have had their sexuality made canon by the author saying it. He said Sweden is gay, but SuFin isn't canon for the yaoi fangirls, since Finland was said to be straight, also by the author. This fandom annoys me a lot, with similar things.

I mean, I love Hetalia and all, but some things are just so fucked up in the fandom...like the fact that people say that Spain is a pedo a France is a rapist. fudgecat This is just what I needed :) When I started out watching Hetalia, I thought it would be completely historical, but now I just use Hetalia as some good comedy time. Hetalia actually helps me remember some countries more then history :p Yaoi. This just sickens me to the core with people thinking Hetalia is all about shipping and crap. It just isn't. I love to read fan-fictions, but if you search even on the first page it will be all about yaoi/yuri and I just want to scream ):( If I look at family picture in Hetalia, its pretty cute. But people always ruin it, saying that they're gay :c Families are allowed to hug/kiss right? With France and Spain. France isn't a rapist!!! Just because he is a pervert, doesn't mean he wants to rape people, he's still a pretty cool character, just as that picture said! Spain is no pedophile. In the wiki, it states he likes the Italian brothers, and thats perfectly normal for some people to like other kids, not of their own. But he doesn't show that he wants to, ummm... thing... with Romano. lemonade67 I'm glad to finally see something finally put in it's place. Don't get me wrong; I love Hetalia. It's become quite a part of my inspiration to write and draw among other things. Sometimes, though, I wonder how the hell did those crazy, yaoi-everything fangirls come to be. I agree with this article wholeheartedly. I mean, hey dudes, hetalia is a comedy, not your history textbook! It isn't fine when you refer to hetalia as your education tool, because it isn't supposed to be one. Also, referencing to only hetalia for your history will result in you missing the whole point of history. History actually is very bloody (as we all should know) yet some hetalia fans seems to think that it was wacky and humorous. . . I do find it frustrating when some people laugh at history events right in the middle of history class. . . please, wars and invasions are not something to laugh about! I use hetalia as inspiration, and maybe motivation to start learning more about the international community, or just to improve myself. . . I relatively enjoy it as a boredom buster comedy. . . It's never failed to cheer me up on my bad days. But I don't use it as my history textbook to study before a test, geez. . . AnnaShadowWolf Finally! A fellow sane hetalian. I fuck'n love Hetalia and I love shitting on Canada's given stereotype seeing as I'm a Canadian, because it's fun! But that's incredibly random and I thought I would take that somewhere XD. Anyway, I don't know if I skipped over this or it was simple,y not announced at the time, but it's cannon that Sweden is gay. Other then that, everyone (POLAND!!!) is straight or unknown about their sexuality. Though I did learn a lot about history, the anime does make me wanna learn more about countries since I find their history interesting once I look at the country history of the actual country, not the character. I enjoy Hetalia and certain amounts of its fandom but keep your gayness outta here unless you wanna ship Sweden X Finland because Sweden will damn approve of that. Other then that, I agree with you completely.

ROTGgirl2004 I agree completely with all you say. I am aware of how annoying this hetalia fandom is to ever non-hetalia fan. this is why i hear "hetalia is cancer" all the time because of our fandom's reputation. what i am most concerned about is the ships. like, the only reason fans seem to love hetalia is because of the ships (which i am not against at all) and not because of hetalia itself. like, what would hidekaz think? he just wanted to make a comedy and hopefully have a nice fandom that will grow popular. how would you feel if you put ten years of your life constantly creating something and all you have to show for it are crazy fans everyone hates?

Glowbreaker218 THANK YOU!!! I find it very disturbing when I see fanfictions in the hetalia fandom like that. I mean, there's like a once in a million chance that you can find an actual good story regarding the Hetalia fandom, but when it comes to this stuff, I hate it. It ruins the reputation of Hetalia and people who just watch it for the comedy. I'll admit that I do love yaoi, but I didn't come here for the ships (although I do speculate them and criticize from time to time). Don't get me wrong, I love the ships, but the fandom takes it too far. I try to look for actual books that are comedy and whatnot. It's just horrible, what people do when they write things about the fandom. Hetalia is a favorite anime of mine, but most of the fandom is horrible. So coming from someone who's in the fandom for the humor, and taking in in history in a lighthearted way, it's refreshing to see a fellow sane Hetalian. Sorry for my rant, but I'm glad that I'm not the only person who agrees on this.
