Mermaid-Tail Actually according to Joss Whedon, Buffy had fallen for Spike. In the commentary for Chosen he says he told Sarah Michelle Gellar when she asked how she should play it he said something like 'play it like you mean it' I totally understand people saying Angel is Buffy's true or better love but I think to say what Buffy had with Spike was only sex you have to overlook their entire relationship development in season seven. As she says Spike is in her heart. He can't have been a sex machine by the end, especially because as far as we know they didn't have sex in season7. It was never shown or even implied. Even when they slept in eachother's arms bfore the battle they were both fully dressed. There was an undeniable closeness between them, whether or not you think Angel is her soulmate :)

AgentCoop I don't think Buffy was ever in love with Spike, but I also don't think their relationship was nothing more than sexual. I think Buffy had very deep, complex feelings for Spike. She opened up to him and made herself vulnerable to him in ways she never did with Angel (or anyone else for that matter). She watched Spike struggle to become a better man and she was able to appreciate and empathize with his painful journey because of what she had been through herself. By going through her own dark times she was able to realize that to seek redemption is something that takes real character and courage, and she watched Spike do that every day. Angel had done that too, of course, but that was long before Buffy knew him. And I'm not dissing Angel, but I think Spike is a little more honest about his dark past. He "owns" his darkness in a way that Angel seems unwilling to. I think it's that straightforwardness that Spike has that helps create that close bond with Buffy, who needed someone who understood what she had been through. When she couldn't relate to anyone else, not even her best friends, she could still relate to Spike. So while I agree that she was (probably still is) in love with Angel and not with Spike, I think there is a deep connection and a close kinship with Spike that she could never have with anyone else.

adwbuffy Well, I think Buffy did fall in love with Spike & Angel. Both equally she does feel for them both. With her relationship with Angel was more about understanding "True Love" and moments that would kill for them. There relationship was very passionate, and Buffy loved him more than any in the world. Her relationship with Spike was something she has learn from, like in the episode Intervention when Buffy was contacting the Spirit Guide, and told her that Death is her Gift, and saying she was full of love, forgive, and give. She gave all of it to Spike. Buffy and Spike relationship was more about Relying on one another, forgiveness, compassionate for one another, and feeling each others arms. Buffy did however made very bad choices around Spike, using him just feel alive, and made him suffer just like she did. In the end Buffy & Spike were keeping each others distances in Season 7 but in the end Spike gave her courage, and power to defeat "The First". Buffy loved Willow, the reason it was platonic love not romantic love was that there was nothing sexual between them, so if you acknowledge that Buffy's feelings for Spike were similar to her feelings for Willow, and you add the sexual attraction we know was there the that means she did love Spike :P

Mermaid-Tail I think it's fair to say Buffy loved Angel more (I personally think her love for Spike was more real because it was more mature and realistic, but I totally understand people disagreeing with me) the only part we're really disagreeing on is you saying Buffy felt nothing for Spike and just used him for sex. I totally agree that's how it was in season 6 (which is when she said she was using him) but I think what they have in season 7 was much more, especially since as far as we know they didn't even have sex in season 7, which is when they were closest. I don't see how their relationship can just be about sex when they were at their closest for the year they didn't seem to have sex at all. Aside from what I saw, part of what I base my opinion that Buffy did love Spike on is that Joss told SMG to play it like she did love him. I don't see why he'd tell her to play it as if she did if she wasn't meant to. Besides, people don't have to say she didn't love Spike to prove she did love Angel (this next part isn't directed at you shannon9396, just shippers in general) I don't see why people think you can only love one person in your life, or that to support Buffy/Angel they have to act like what Buffy had with Spike was meaningless. I like Spike/Buffy but I never feel the need to say Buffy didn't have a true deep love with Angel, because she did. Even if Angel is her soulmate and better love that doesn't mean she didn't love Spike too, even if you think her love for Angel is stronger and will last longer. I personally believe she loved both of them, and that her love for Angel was stronger and more passionate, but her love for Spike was more realistic and mature :) Er, that seemed like sort of a rant, it wasn't meant to, I just got into a bit of a ramble, lol. We'd probably best just agreeing to disagree on this, because I'd never be able to think that Buffy only wanted Sike for sex ♥

shannon9396 My opinion is that Buffy in season 7 loved Spike not as a lover but as a friend.He was a person who could understand her and support her but not complete her as a woman. Mermaid-Tail at least we agree at the Riley issue, right? LOL

jighooligan101 The thing about each relationship is that theres a hundred reasons to say Buffy should be with Angel and just as much to say she should be with Spike. All the actors have come out giving their opinions for instance adwbuffys quote from SMG which is clearly Spuffy supporting but theres also several quotes showing her support for Bangel. There is a reason there was no overall resolve of the relationships and thats because there is none. There is no satisfying end to the love triangle and therefore it will never be resolved. Even if Buffy was to meet Angel and or Spike again they could never get together again. In other words Buffy will never be cookies!

adwbuffy Well, everybody has there opinions. I mean Buffy did really fall for Angel all the way. She keep Angel in her heart all the way. But you always remember your first not your second or third. Always your first, so Buffy did all the way, with relationships like Parker, Scott, Riley and especially Spike. But for Spike he knew that Buffy did still have feelings for Angel. He said this in Destiny in Angel Season 5 Spike doesn't even know Buffy really love him even though she said to him and Angel in Chosen. Who knows Buffy will always will love Spike & Angel.

Spangiffy I truly think that Buffy loved Spike--possibly even more than she loved Angel. Her love with Angel I feel is usually mistaken as eternal love, whereas I think it was just because he was her first love. There was no way that Angel could have cared more for Buffy than Spike did. Angel really didnt care about his soul. Spike knew that it would give Buffy what she deserved, and he did it out of pure love. Spike learned what love was, and did everything possibly to make sure that she got what she deserved. Spike loved her through the worst of times, even without a soul. She hated him all the way up until possibly as late as season 6, but he persisted and understood everything she was, only loving her even more. I think that eventually, he got what he deserved. She learned to love him back, and understood all the sacrifices he made for her. She jumped in to the Bangel love too quickly, whereas the Spuffy love progressed. The one time that she said she loved him, she meaned it. Even Joss Whedon said that she was supposed to mean it. When Spike said "No you don't, but thanks for saying it.", a lot of people think that it was because he didnt want Buffy to feel bad about leaving him so he could save the world. He earned her trust. It also might not have been his fault that she didn't love him sooner-- there were a lot of men that let her down- including Angel. As mentioned in "Conversations with Dead People", she might have not trusted men after all that happened to her. He really did become a better man, but still managed to remain as badass as usual. Sorry, but you have to admit, Spikes character is a lot cooler than Mr. iliketobroodmuchbecauseihaveafuckingsoul. :) NOT that I dont like Angel, I do. I'm just stating my opinion. :)

princess_16 Buffy feels something for Spike.He is in her heart.He was there for her,just holding her when she was alone,he was there..only him understood her.But she loved Angel.She loves him now,and she will love him forever.Their love was pure,no sex,they were sleeping together,but just sleeping.She was laying in his arms and that was it-that was love.When she killed him,she loved him.She didn't killed the monster that killed all that people,she killed the man she loves,and that was hard.And her dreams about him was beautiful.In season three when he left,she was broken,but she couldn't cry because he took all the tears with him.Everytime when he came back in Sunnydale she felt him,when he came after her mothers funeral,well that was beautiful,because she was waiting for him.And in the last episode she told him that one day they could end up together,after all this time.So I think Buffy loved Spike..she loved Riley and she loved Willow and Xander..she loved them all.But Angel was and is love of her life.And that makes a diference.Because in the end all of us will remember that,Buffy and Angel.They had something special,kind of love Buffy never felt for anyone else.

princess_16 And guys at firt SMG didn't liked Spike/Buffy relationship,and at first three seasons she loved Buffy/Angel.She begged Joss not to make her take B/A after sex scene,and David was the only one who couls comfort her.And she said many times in the interwievs that Angel is Buffy's true love.
