Star Wars 8 will reveal that Rey is the reincarnation of Darth Vader and will be titled Echoes of the Dark Side, according to a Reddit user who claims to have a copy of the script.

Redditor LouEvilOne claims the script reveals a number of unexpected plot twists in the forthcoming film, including that "Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker".

The post alleges that Luke Skywalker travels to his hiding place "to better understand how the process [of reincarnation] works". There, he learns that "the spirit of the chosen one is reincarnated by the Force every time the universe is thrown out of balance, which apparently happens on a semi-regular basis".

This explains why Rey is "so crazy powerful with the Force (remember that Anakin blew up the Trade Federation donut ship by himself when he was like 8 years old)", says LouEvilOne.

In another unexpected twist, the leak apparently also reveals that Rey was the product of a virgin birth. At one point in Star Wars 8, Luke Skywalker says: "You are a child of the Force," LouEvilOne says.

This theory could explain Star Wars: The Force Awakens\' director JJ Abrams\'s recent comments on Rey\'s parentage.

"Rey\'s parents are not in Episode 7, so I can\'t possibly say who they are at this moment," he said, at a question and answer session with Entertainment Weekly at the weekend.

According to the purported leak, the plot will largely leave Rey to one side and will follow Finn, played by John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac\'s Poe Dameron on an adventure to try to uncover First Order spies.

General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), meanwhile, is struggling to maintain control of the Resistance after the arrival of new leader Lord Vikram, played by Benicio Del Toro, who is "quickly put into power by the few senators still around to maintain order".

The two agree the Republic has to go to war with the First Order, but Vikram "wants to wait for communications to come back online so they can muster up a sizable force… Leia disagrees, and wants to take the war to the First Order now while Snoke is still reeling from Starkiller\'s destruction".

The film heads towards a dramatic climax that sees Leia betrayed by Vikram and Finn captured and held hostage by the First Order, with Adam Driver\'s Kylo Ren torturing him using the Force, "knowing that it will draw Rey out of hiding and into his trap". 

Several Reddit users have expressed doubt about the claims, but many generally approved of the content.

"Fake or not, these are always fun reads," said one, while another wrote: "Spoilerman\'s story wasn\'t half bad. Plus, it didn\'t have a goddamn Death Star in it."

Whether or not there is any truth to the suggestions will be revealed when Star Wars 8 is released in December 2017.

Star Wars 8: Daisy Ridley downplays rumours that Jyn Erso is Rey\'s mother

Daisy Ridley has responded to rumours that her Star Wars: The Force Awakens\' character Rey could have a family connection to Jyn Erso, the protagonist of the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Speaking backstage at the MTV Movie Awards, Ridley played down speculation that Felicity Jones might be playing her mother.

"I\'m not being funny, you guys, but just because she\'s white and got brown hair… it doesn\'t mean she\'s my mum," she told MTV.

Fans have been connecting the two ever since British brunette Jones appeared in the teaser trailer for the spin-off.

However, Ridley said she does know who Rey\'s parents are – and that she doesn\'t think it\'s important to the story.

"I think the amazing thing about it is that Finn [played John Boyega] and Rey don\'t come from anywhere and they find a place," she said – although, of course, she could be bluffing.

Ridley also talked briefly about what\'s in store for Episode VIII of the saga. The as-yet-untitled sequel will be "darker" in tone than The Force Awakens, she said.

Her comments echo those of co-star Boyega, who said in January that the sequel would be "much darker".

Star Wars 8: Will Yoda return as a ghost?

The latest from the Star Wars rumour mills is that the eighth instalment of the sci-fi series may feature the return of Yoda.

According to MakingStarWars.net, veteran puppeteer Frank Oz is either at or on the way to Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. Famous for his work on the Muppets, where he brought Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear to life, Oz also controlled and voiced the diminutive green Jedi knight.

MakingStarWars says it has been able to "verify" through "various channels" that the puppeteer is in the UK for work purposes - and, of course, Pinewood is where Star Wars: Episode VIII is being shot, right now.

Den of Geek is cautious about the rumour, but happy to speculate that it could indicate the return of Yoda. Alternatively, Oz could be advising on another, previously unseen, alien creature.

If the Jedi master is back, says MakingStarWars, he may be returning as a Force ghost, but the "best-case scenario" is that Yoda is back with Oz at the helm.

Star Wars Episode 8: Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong\'o to return

Hot on the heels of the surprising news that Ade Edmondson will be appearing in the as-yet-untitled Star Wars Episode VIII, director Rian Johnson says there will also be an altogether more familiar face making an appearance.

In his most recent post to his Tumblr page, Johnson uploaded an on-set photo (pictured above) showing Maz Kanata\'s face on two monitors while a film crew works its magic on - presumably - Lupita Nyong\'o in a motion-capture suit.

Nyong\'o\'s character was left in a state of mild peril when we last saw her in The Force Awakens, with her safe haven being attacked by the First Order not long after she handed Luke\'s lightsaber to Rey.

"Hopefully, Johnson will take a moment to explain why Kanata seemingly has Force powers (plus, it would also be nice to know just how she got Luke\'s Lightsaber in the first place)," writes Jack Shepherd in The Independent.

Maz Kanata has also been the most labour intensive of the new characters to create.

In an interview with IGN, Neal Scanlan, the lead creature effects artists for the trilogy, revealed the design process behind the smuggler.

"Maz was a long design process and I think that it was the first character we started on, way before we started on any others, because it was so important to JJ," he said. 

Scanlan also told the website that Kanata had initially been thought of as a puppet, but that changed as she became more integral to the film\'s plot.

"Certainly emotionally, the character grew and we felt there was a point where, in order for her to fully succeed and to liberate her from any constraints, we needed to go to a computer generated version," he said.

Star Wars 8: Is Ade Edmondson to appear in the next film?

Ade Edmondson is to star in the as-yet-untitled Star Wars Episode VIII, according to reports today.

The surprising scoop comes courtesy of The Sun, whose showbiz editor, Dan Wootton, claims he has it on good authority that the 59-year-old Bottom star has been offered a part in the upcoming sequel.

Edmondson is said to have wowed director Rian Johnson and The Force Awakens\' director turned producer JJ Abrams, who was apparently key to the decision to sign up the actor.

"While JJ Abrams isn’t directing, he is still heavily involved and he is really keen on British talent," Wootton\'s source revealed.

"His character is top secret, like everything else to do with the film and its plot. But given his old comedy characters, it would make sense for them to give him an eccentric part."

On the surface, Edmondson doesn\'t seem like the most likely candidate for a role in the legendary space epic. It\'s hard to picture the comedian, who is also known for his roles in The Young Ones and The Comic Strip Presents…, running around with Wookies or wielding a blaster.

But the Star Wars franchise is no stranger to the odd comic interlude. Stabs at humour range from the fan-pleasing antics of C3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8 to the ill-advised introduction of Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace.

Edmondson has also flexed his dramatic range, impressing most recently with his straight-faced turn as Count Ilya Rostov in the BBC\'s adaptation of War and Peace.

The actor\'s representatives have not commented on the rumours, but wags have already taken to Twitter with suggestions for potential characters and costumes.

Star Wars 8: Kylo Ren \'still at war,\' says Adam Driver

Kylo Ren has not been discouraged by the First Order\'s defeat at the hands of the Resistance, the actor who plays the baby-faced villain has revealed.

"They\'re still at war. It\'s still Star Wars," Adam Driver told Entertainment Weekly of the situation in the upcoming Episode VIII. "They\'re not at peace."

When audiences last saw Kylo Ren, revealed to be the errant son of Han Solo and Princess Leia, he was hardly in what you\'d call fine fettle. First, he was blasted with a Bowcaster by an enraged Chewie before being bested by Rey in their big showdown. But Driver\'s comments suggest that Ren is far from down and out.

It\'s hardly a ground-breaking spoiler, but fans will be reassured by his comments that the untitled sequel has a "great script."

Driver, who is also familiar to TV fans as Adam in the HBO comedy-drama Girls, was as tight-lipped as you might expect when pressed for more details of the top secret plot. However, he had plenty to say about new director Rian Johnson taking the helm from JJ Abrams.

"I can\'t wait to get on set, just because he\'s so unassuming and intelligent and approachable," Driver said.

"I feel like there were so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was. A lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language."

Star Wars 8: Luke Skywalker to visit a casino in new movie

Has Luke Skywalker developed a gambling problem? That\'s the newest question for Star Wars fans to ponder after a set insider from Episode VIII revealed that the Jedi knight will pay a visit to a casino.

In one scene from the as-yet untitled sequel, Luke searches the gambling den for an unnamed character, the source told fan site Making Star Wars, which has made a name as a reliable source for scoops.

The casino has been compared by insiders to a much larger version of the iconic cantina from Star Wars: A New Hope, with lots of strange-looking patrons from all corners of the galaxy. Hopefully there\'ll be no extended musical number this time…

A casino doesn\'t seem like a natural habitat for a clean-cut hero like Luke – but then again, the grizzled hero viewers glimpsed at the end of The Force Awakens wasn\'t exactly what you\'d call clean-cut. Has his failure to stop the First Order from rising to take the Empire\'s place taken its toll? Or is our hero simply straying into unfamiliar territory in search of someone who could help the Rebel forces strike back at Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke? After all, if the scene is intended to mirror A New Hope\'s cantina sequence, it would make sense if the casino was used to introduce a wheeler-dealer character to take on Han Solo\'s bad boy mantle.

Han Solo\'s fate in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was one of the most shocking moments in the saga\'s history. Audiences all over the world recoiled in horror as the Millennium Falcon ace was murdered by his son, Kylo Ren, after failing to persuade him to leave the dark side. 

From the moment the film was released, wishful fans have naturally wondered if there is a way Solo could have survived.

Their hopes have now been raised after Harrison Ford, appearing on US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live, toyed with the rumours that his character may reappear in the space saga.

The 73-year-old actor turned cagey when it was mentioned he would presumably not feature in any more Star Wars film, asking: "Who said that? Who made you the boss?"

Perhaps sensing the chance for a scoop, Kimmel continued: "Do you know if the character Han Solo will continue or do you not know?" But Ford stayed coy, saying it was a "good question".

So could Solo have survived his encounter with Ren, just as Luke Skywalker survived his plummet from Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back? Theoretically, yes - but the chances of Solo also finding a conveniently placed rubbish chute seem slim.

Perhaps more realistic is the speculation that Solo might appear in Episode VIII as a spirit or a vision.Josh Hill of Fansided thinks a ghost Solo could play a vital role in the next Star Wars. "If Kylo\'s arc involves battling his demons and what he\'s done, we will almost surely see Solo in a vision or as a Force Ghost-style guide for his son," he writes.

It\'s an attractive theory. After all, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Yoda all came back in phantom form. And although Jedis have been able to become "Force ghosts" so far, sci-fi films are notorious for their ability to find a loophole to any plot problem.

Star Wars 8: Is Lando Calrissian Finn\'s dad?

Ever since The Force Awakens hit screens in December last year, fans have been trying to work out where Rey and Finn fit into the Star Wars universe. The most common theory is that Rey is Luke Skywalker\'s daughter – but Finn\'s heritage remains a mystery, too.

Very little is known about Finn\'s past life. Removed from his family and raised by the First Order to become a Stormtrooper, he was simply named FN-2187 until he was rechristened by Poe Dameron.

With his parentage a total mystery, it\'s no wonder fans have been wondering if it\'s possible Finn is related to fan favourite Lando Calrissian.

The idea first gathered steam in November last year, when eagle-eyed bloggers noticed a Star Wars puzzle on sale which describes Finn as the son of Lando Calrissian.

Billy Dee Williams, who played Lando in the original trilogy, isn\'t listed among the cast members for Episode VIII. However, the cast list is far from complete – and it isn\'t uncommon for actors\' names to be hidden in order to keep their roles under wraps.

Williams did not star in The Force Awakens, but in an interview last year with Cinelinx he fuelled speculation: "I have a feeling I\'m going to show up," he said, in reference to the planned trilogy.

John Boyega, who plays Finn, has his own "conspiracy theories" about the ex-Stormtrooper\'s origins. The London-born actor told Variety that when he met Samuel L. Jackson, who played Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy, Jackson joked "You\'re my son!".

Star Wars 8: Will there be a funeral in the next film?

At the end of Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker held a private funeral for his father, Darth Vader, whose armour he had managed to rescue from the Death Star before it was blown to smithereens by Rebel starfighters.

The most recent film in the long-running space saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, saw the death of another major character, Han Solo, but as yet, his passing has gone largely unremarked, save for an emotional scene between Rey and General Leia Organa.

However, according to the latest rumours, he will have a funeral in the next film, the as-yet-unnamed Star Wars 8, possibly be held at sea.

Spy pictures of shooting, which just finished in Dubrovnik, show formally dressed humanoids and aliens in a gathering on a boat. According to Collider, "some believe that the location could be [Solo\'s] funeral".

Meanwhile, the shortlist for who will play the role of a young Han Solo in the upcoming spin-off films has now reportedly been whittled down to three actors: Hail Caesar\'s! Alden Ehrenreich, Transformers Age of Extinction\'s Jack Reynor and Kingsman\'s Taron Egerton.

While the swashbuckling character may be finished in the main saga, it appears he is set for many more swindles, scrapes and romantic clinches in Disney\'s off-piste Star Wars side projects.
