I want to make video games for a living

Well bạn need to be good at coding and programming.

Research the video game industry and what its mostly comprised of. There are plenty of different careers but mainly for making games chances are bạn want to aim at becoming a video game designer.
Understand what exactly video game designers do on a daily basis. What are some challenges they may face, what skills are necessary, etc.
What exactly do bạn want to do when bạn become a video game designer? Yes, bạn want to thiết kế games, but what kind of games? What sort of audience do bạn want to aim for? Who will bạn work with (because believe me, video game designers work in pairs hoặc groups; the workload of doing it alone is close to impossible unless you're trying to become an indie game designer) and how are bạn going to get your game out to the public?
I would also gain an understanding of the history of video games in general. I recommend đọc Rules of Play: Game thiết kế Fundamentals. It is essentially the best textbook revolving around video game thiết kế that I know personally.
Keep up with what's going on in the gaming industry. If bạn want to thiết kế games, look at what's been done before. There are tons of games out there that are all successful in their own way; distinguish them from one another and figure out what makes this enjoyable for someone and what bạn may hoặc may not like about it.

Look for a Digital Design, hoặc other Creative Tech uni course paper.

I'm currently studying Digital thiết kế at uni and game development is part of it.

I will say though, do your research before-hand. Many people out there go "I wanna make games for a living!" but then bạn actually study it.....and many are put off like myself.
If bạn want to do it, cool, but be prepared that it's not as fun as people would think it would be. It's extremely frustrating and tedious work, but the result makes it worth it, so good luck.
