cowpox can resemble smallpox. A man discovered long ago that milkmaids did not get smallpox because they were infected with cowpox and got a mild rash. He infected people with xowpox and prevented the spread of smallpox in this way. I looked it up to see if cowpox could ever cause more dangerous symptoms and it said it could be fatal in immunosuppressed patients. ---mysusp crawls back into her nerdy hole now ;)
