I dunno, actually... I find the things that I'm truly a người hâm mộ of are the ones I'm prepared to get up in arms to defend when people bash it. Haters kind of serve a purpose in the world of fandoms in that regard - at least, that's how I see it.

That's a way to respond, but do bạn really "join" fandoms for the purpose of defending it from people who insult it, hoặc insult bạn for liking it?

That's not what I meant; actually, it's haters that help me determine IF I'm actually a người hâm mộ of something, I mean anybody can like anything, sure, but it takes a người hâm mộ to actually defend it from people who constantly bash it. Also, it's really useful in examining your own reasons for liking something; bạn have to examine whatever it is you're defending closely, understanding what people consider to be the bad and what bạn see as the good, measuring them up and all. Haters can go a long way to helping bạn understand something bạn tình yêu much better bởi making bạn get up in arms to defend it, and for that, I think they serve a necessary (if somehwat hated) function (and yes, I'm aware that many people will naturally take the time and effort to examine closely the things they are những người hâm mộ of, but I'm talking for the people - like me - who are a little too lazy to do it unless they come under ngọn lửa, chữa cháy over them)
