	KataraLover picked Shes a horrible mother!!!: I understand that. She did it with at least good intentions, to protect her daughter. She almost lost her daughter when she was a baby and she was completely useless in that situation, that's something that leaves a traumatic scar on any parent. At least she had an excuse in the sequel. Unlike in Lady and The Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure(my favorite sequel ever btw) where Tramp had no excuse. He lied to his son and hide the truth. He was overprotective and didn't even have an excuse. He was too hard on Scamp! He had no reason to be like that, at least Ariel did. posted hơn một năm qua.

She only wanted what was best for her daughter, and really meant to love her and praise her. Just like anyy parent should. posted hơn một năm qua.

I cannot compare her to Triton (although I don't think Triton was a horrible father, but I definitely don't see him as a great one, at least not in the beginning of the first movie) because unlike Triton who maybe had the same intention - to protect his children considering what happened to his wife (as we know from the prequel) - he came from his unfair and wrong prejudices about ALL humans without even trying to get to know them, misjudging their whole world and culture and literally punished Ariel for not wanting to be as judgemental and prejudiced as him. And at some point his punishment started reminding an emotional abuse, plus he hardly even talked to Ariel about her feelings. Ariel on the other hand tried to protect Melody from some REAL danger, from someone who already attempted to harm her at some point and she tried her best to make Melody happy, she had mother/daughter conversations with her and Melody wasn't afraid of her. However, I think Ariel's characterization in the second movie just wasn't done entirely right. posted hơn một năm qua.
