I believe that they deserve meals that are edible and healthy. But the fact that they are fed better then people on the streets and the lower class is what gets to me. Give them food that isn't stale or downright nasty but don't give them carefully balanced diets if that makes sense. There are stories of homeless people committing crimes just so they can have a place to stay and a regular 3 meals.

Bottom line criminals shouldn't be rewarded for crimes with health care and food supply more quality than homeless/lower/middle class citizens get.

I see nutritious food and housing a basic human right, so I would be more concerned with getting homeless people off the street than trying to degrade inmates as though they're not human. Especially people who are prison without even committing a violent crime.
