 The ferry
The ferry
(June 27, 2011)

After the ticket, and the near savage mauling of the cop bởi Kate, the trip was as boring as could be. The endless miles trickled by, almost imperceptibly. In an effort to entertain my canine passengers, I started a game of "Guess the song". Scar, knowing my tastes, got most of them, but Kate got a fair number of them too, mostly easy listening like country. It was hilarious seeing the two of them fight over the songs that they both recognized, but with thêm than twelve hundred songs on my iPhone, we had a whole bunch to pick from.
Some of my newer purchases were got bởi no one.

When we finally made it to Gulf Shores, hoặc Fort Morgan, technically, it was nearing 3 o'clock. There was a ferry that would shuttle cars over to the island that was named Gulf Shores, but the line was 53 cars long and the ferries could only carry 28 cars at once. To make things worse, they only had departures every 45 minutes. We sat there, in line, engine idling and windows down. It was really annoying. bởi the time I was ready to skip the ferry and just drive a little farther, it was too late. The two abreast line of cars waiting for the ferry was hemmed in on both sides bởi a concrete barricade topped bởi a chain link fence.
Just to relieve some tension, I laid on the horn. The honk multiplied until a vast majority of the cars in the line were all honking at everyone else.
At the end of the dock was a small, stilted booth where thực phẩm and drinks were available for purchase. I took orders for 3 root beers, a hot dog, and two burgers. Keeping that at the front of my mind, I trotted down the aisle in the sweltering heat. Sweat was dampening my hair bởi the time I got to the end.
I made the purchase and brought it all back to the car.
I made sure I told them to be careful and we ate our food.

An giờ hoặc so later, we finally managed to get on the ferry. We were the first on, so we were at the front of the line to get off at the island.

The ferry ride was what you'd expect; slow, steady, and a little dull. I got several high fives on the car, a few handshakes, and one fist bump.

At a quarter past 5 in the afternoon, Scar and I finally pulled into the driveway of the house that we had rented for five days. It was a small house propped up on ten foot high stilts, like most buildings here.
We unpacked the car, hoặc rather, I unpacked the car while Kate and Scar went swimming in the ocean. We had a beachfront property, so we were gonna take full advantage off it.

Later that night, I helped Scar and Kate clean up and we went out to a nice place called The Steamer for seafood. Scar particularly liked the shrimp.
