hevn 008 - October 2003 | Ruki Personal Interview | Theme 【Past = Present】

-- Ruki-san, when bạn were little, what kind of child were you?

Ruki: I've often been told bởi my parents that I was a child who easily made friends. I've been told bởi them that even when we moved [houses] I was a kid who made new Những người bạn quickly and soon entered all my friends' houses. I was constantly moving from house to house... (laugh). I had a very active preschool live.

-- So bạn were a very affectionate child, right. This honest appearance really hasn't changed since then.

Ruki: Is that so?

-- And then, how was it in elementary school?

Ruki: I think what I remember from elementary school is that I forgot/lost a lot of things.... I also received physical punishment from my teacher all the time (laugh).

-- Physical punishment?

Ruki: What (s)he often did was clapping one's thigh with his/her hand while shouting "Momiji!" (laugh). I always forgot the khăn, tạp dề we had to use in the kitchen.

-- bạn did, right, the only one in class. But I'm glad it was only such a cute punishment. During elementary school, did bạn take part in any clubs?

Ruki: Yes. I was in the manga club.

-- So this is why Ruki-san is so good at drawing!

Ruki: Well, let's quit this. It was a suspicious club, ne (laugh). I was in the basket ball club till my fourth năm and after that I took part in the manga club for two years. Nevertheless, there were about 20 people in the club. Everyone was drawing manga all the time (laugh).

-- Even after returning trang chủ from school bạn continued to draw?

Ruki: No. Since we were little, we had secret bases where we would play, right?

-- Yes, and bạn would only allow boys to enter the secret base! What did bạn do and play there?

Ruki: We played things like making sand dumplings and then go all "This is our food!" (laugh). And then we also went roller-skating.

-- So bạn were kind of a sportsman?

Ruki: No. I was very poor at ball games. I wonder if I was any good at roller-skating though?

-- After that, what kind of club did bạn tham gia in middle school?

Ruki: During the first năm I did Judô, and during the một giây and third năm I did basket ball.

-- Eh, Judô! Amazing!

Ruki: It's not amazing at all. There was a welcome assembly for all new students when I entered this school, right. At that time the club was on the verge of being closed and its advisor teacher was all "I don't want this club to go to waste!" and soon after seeing his face that was about to cry, me and my Những người bạn were like "Isn't he pitiable? We'll enroll in the club!", so we entered and that was it (laugh).

-- bạn were struck bởi how your teacher put his everything into it, weren't you. But was there something too intense, so that bạn left the club?

Ruki: The practice was intense, and also on Sunday it was always practice practice practice, there was no break and I didn't enroll in the club with this kind of motivation. I wanted to quit but I couldn't do that so easily. But I almost didn't go there anymore eventually (laugh). But that was already in 6th grade.

-- What [Judô] class were bạn in 6th grade, approximately?

Ruki: Well, generally people would have the white belt, right? I was one above that, I had the brown belt.

-- bạn were very strong!

Ruki: No. I just often won bởi being lucky (laugh). Even so, there were also proper tests. I was kind of forced to go to the dôjo to take the tests. First I was passive and then I did my throw... like that. Even my parents thought I was doing Judô seriously. When there was Judô on TV they would certainly call me and go "Hey! Look at this!".

-- And after that bạn did basket ball?

Ruki: I enrolled in that club because it looked like fun when my Những người bạn were doing it. But I didn't do anything seriously at all (laugh).

-- And yet bạn had the brown belt! Maybe bạn should continue with it now....

Ruki: Nooo, please give me a break! (bitter laugh)

-- When did bạn start doing music?

Ruki: In the third năm of middle school we appeared as a band at a hiển thị in a camp. I did drums back then.

-- Was that so? Why did bạn want to do the drums?

Ruki: When I decided I wanted to be in the band I had a bad start (laugh).

-- And after that bạn decided to do music?

Ruki: No. As for highschool, I wanted to attend a thiết kế school and wanted to become a "Master Sculptor", but such a school was nowhere near where I lived, so there was no other way than to commute to another place. But if I went there I'd had to do things like pottery and oil painting and thought "This has got nothing to do with sculpturing!" and I gave up on becoming a sculptor. When I thought I wanted to do a band I formed one together with Những người bạn and we did mellow core and hard core style at the same time.

-- I see. So that's why bạn can hear these elements also if bạn listen to the Gazette's sounds. Did they originate from Ruki-san? They're too good!

Ruki: After I quit that band I was asked to do support for a Visual kei band and they told me "It's fun to wear make up!".

-- When did bạn become a vocal?

Ruki: Before we formed Gazette I was in a band for only 3 months together with Uruha and Reita but the way the vocal at that time was hát did not do for me, so I was wondering what the members should do. That's how it was. Just at that time I was creating songs, and also inserted the lyrics with my own voice. When Uruha heard this he supported my songs and told me "You! You're going to do the vocals!!" and I tried to change drums for vocals for the time being, but then the band broke up (laugh). I did vocals for a session band once and it was a lot of fun. After that I think I just simply wanted to stand out (laugh).

-- So due to Uruha-san's words bạn declared the vocal "Ruki" as born, that's great.

Ruki: (shy laugh)

-- So then let's di chuyển on to talk about the "present". You'll start your coupling tour with Vidoll in October but please tell us about your enthusiasm.

Ruki: I feel like winning! I have a lot of self-confidence! (speaking in a small voice...? Why such a small voice??? laugh.)

-- You're also releasing "Hankou Seimeibun", what kind of recording will it be?

Ruki: The songs for this time's recording weren't made easily and it was quite painful. The songs have been made while being cornered. One could say that's the pain of giving birth, but I'm glad that as for the result we could add spice in a good way. As for the musical composition, I think that we could fuse the Gazette we've been until now and a new Gazette into one. We just let everyone who listens to it judge freely, thus we also don't intend to change hoặc anything, we just wanted to do what we felt like.

-- Compared to your older recordings, did anything change?

Ruki: I think I want to sing thêm honestly than before, and there are also English lyrics in the new songs, so despite thinking "This is so tireseome!" while consulting the dictionary, I really want to remember the English words. Then I also liked Hip-Hop lately, so I tried to mix this style with the song [DIS]. Since it's a little shabby if we added some mixture sounds I wanted to add them to create an impact. Although we're doing Visual kei, all of the members often say "We want to do various kinds of songs!", but aren't there not just a few people who are doing this? When I'm creating songs, I'm always dedicating myself to create songs which are like "Even when I'm listening to them at home, the songs I made myself should be something I can also listen to there". This is why "I want to do various kinds of songs".

-- So create a new scene! Please! Now please tell us a message [to our readers].

Ruki: I think that this time's songs are not easy to get used to... maybe... for sure.... But I don't want to defend ourselves, I just want bạn to accept us [as we are]. Therefore it's not like we won't play songs like before anymore. I just want the present Gazette to be cool. Please understand that. We still have a long way in front of us, but please treat us favourably.
