What are các điểm thưởng for?

I've been here for almost a year, and I should probably know what they are, but I don't. Do they do something special, hoặc are they just a way of complimenting someone for something they have done?

Obviously though, they're not really used like that anymore. Years cách đây there weren't walls on fanpop and so people would talk to each other bởi propping back and forth. I think it mostly just stuck, and people like the look of having high điểm thưởng counts. *shrugs*
