If Han is connected with a users blood, then how does Nicci keep Richards Han after she dies and swichs bodies

First let me say that I have not read any of the books. From watching the series, I would think it was connected to the spirit hoặc soul of the person.That way her life force could carry the han if it switched bodies. Just a guess.
