He also opens up about Selena, fame and his rocky relationship with his mom.
Justin Bieber may be everywhere you look lately, but with each and every interview he does, you surprisingly keep learning more about the pop star.
magazine, the “Sorry” singer opens up about his nude photos, his rocky relationship with his mom and whether or not he’s actually taken a listen to Selena Gomez’s
Justin also isn’t afraid to talk about his past struggles with fame and how he’s ’so nervous’ to come back into the music spotlight. Here are 11 things we learned from Justin’s candid new interview.
Justin admits that he’s very anxious with his
album release — not only because it’s hard to make “meaningful songs that make you want to dance because it can come off cheesy,” but also because it’s a very personal album.
“In the past I’ve recorded songs that I didn’t like, that I wouldn’t listen to, that the label was telling me to record,” he said. “I’m self-expressing with this album — I can’t skip on the moments that were dark, the moments that were happy, the ex-girlfriend stuff. It makes it real, rather than ‘Let’s call up Max Martin to write you a hit song.’ I want my music to be inspiring.”

Many people were offended by Justin’s dad, Jeremy Bieber’s, tweet about his son’s naked photo, including Bette Midler, or as Justin called her, “Britt Meddler.”
“I don’t even know who that is, honestly. I wanted to immediately say ‘Who is this lady?’, but then I’m just fueling this negativity. I do feel the photo was an invasion of my privacy. I felt super violated. My dad made light of it, but I don’t think that’s sick and twisted. It was funny. Dads are going to be dads.”
Justin was “scared” when he first got a glimpse of his censored nude pics online, “I was like, ‘Oh, my God. I just got out of the water. Shrinkage is real.” Well, that apparently didn’t happen for JB, “No, no. That’s as big as she gets.”
Despite being “proud of the woman she is today,” and having a love that “never really dies,” Justin has no intention of listening to Selena’s recent album any time soon since “I know I had a lot of play in that one. I don’t know what she’s saying about me.”
Justin said it’s still “too soon” to get in a serious relationship since his break-up with Selena back in 2014, but he did clear up a few dating rumors. He admitted he was never serious with Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin is “one of my best friends in the entire world,” and he’s still getting to know model Jayde Pierce, who was photographed with him on vacation in Bora Bora.
For nearly a year Justin has been living at a Beverly Hills hotel after selling his Calabasas mansion to Khloe Kardashian, the same house where that whole egg throwing incident went down.
While Justin was going through his hard times — jail, public urination, drag racing — his manager, Scooter Braun, felt like a failure for a year and a half.
“He shut himself off and went into a dark place,” Scooter said. “Every single day I tried to help him turn it around, and every single day I failed. And I tried desperately. The only person who deserves credit for this [his comeback] is Justin.”
Justin and his mom, Pattie Mallette, have always been close, but during the past two years their relationship, as he put it, was “pretty nonexisting.”
“I was distant because I was ashamed. I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was,” he said. “We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust. She’s living in Hawaii now, so it’s hard, but getting better. She’s an amazing woman and I love her.”
Being a child star is “the toughest thing in the world,” according to Justin, which is why he feels for Kylie and hopes that people can “be more kind to young celebrities.”
“Look at her [Kylie’s] world: She has been living on TV since she was a kid. Every time she’s looking around she sees a camera, and that’s affecting how she’s thinking and how she’s perceiving people and why she has to do certain things … Situations that happen taint your mind, especially in this industry.”
Justin admits that his life may seem “awesome from the outside,” but he’s still struggling. He went through a time where he felt “empty” and “lost” and thinking that he wasn’t good enough.
“Certain things broke my trust with people,” he said. “Situations happen that taint your mind. I started going through the motions. I felt like people were judging me all the time. I came out alive. I came out swinging. But I was close to letting [fame] completely destroy me.”
Justin starts off his day with a prayer — “Thank you so much for allowing me to wake up today; help me to enjoy each and every moment” — and admits he sometimes ends it by going to down to his hotel lounge and play the piano for the guests. His go-to song? “Let It Be” by The Beatles.
