Game of Thrones Season 6: The Last Time We Saw The Tyrells…

I remember visiting this website once...
It was called When last we saw House Tyrell in Game of Thrones
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Sunday’s teaser showing us what it means to literally face death, it’s time to once again catch up on another great house of Westeros: House Tyrell. We’ve previously looked back on Houses Lannister, Stark, and Greyjoy, but none of these houses have the grace and beauty possessed by the House of the rose.
When last we saw the members of House Tyrell, there were more thorns on the bush than rose petals. Where most great houses of Westeros pin their hopes on an eldest son, House Tyrell put all their considerable backing behind their beautiful daughter, Margaery…and for a time in Season 5, it worked. However, House Tyrell—led by the Lady Olenna—overplayed its hand, and perhaps underestimated the strength of House Lannister (specifically Cersei) after the death of Lord Tywin, and Margaery’s reign as the queen bee in the Red Keep was all too brief.
Margaery’s brother, Loras Tyrell, also helped his sister’s downfall along. In a major divergence from the
books, Cersei used her knowledge about Loras’ sexual escapades—with Olyvar, a prostitute working for Littlefinger—to get him arrested. When Margaery lied to protect him during an inquest undertaken by the newly revived Faith Militant, she was arrested for perjury.
Also playing into Cersei Lannister’s schemes: the lord of House Tyrell, Lord Mace Tyrell, whom Cersei named Master of Ships and Master of Coin. She sent him to Braavos to try and negotiate with the Iron Bank regarding the Crown’s considerable debt. I believe it was Cersei’s plan to have Meryn Trant, whom she sent along with him, kill Mace Tyrell while in Braavos, but through a stroke of sheer luck, Arya Stark intervened and killed Trant for revenge’s sake, thus saving the lovable Lord Mace.
Finally, the only Tyrell that kept her head above the stink in King’s Landing…well, metaphorically speaking…was Lady Olenna Tyrell. The Matriarch of House Tyrell, and the only one of the bunch besides Margaery who seems to have a lick of sense, Lady Olenna prefers to do her battling with her razor-sharp tongue. Her nickname at court is the Queen of Thorns, for her quick wit and sharp words are quick to draw blood.
Lady Olenna also has no problems with verbally sparring with the biggest power players in King’s Landing, as was in evidenced in Season 5, when she traded barbs with Cersei, Littlefinger, and even the High Sparrow.
Olenna: “And the famous tart, Queen Cersei.“
Her back and forth with Lord Baelish was particularly poignant, as few in the Seven Kingdoms are capable of going toe-to-toe with Littlefinger.
You’ve always been rather impressed with yourself, haven’t you?”
Littlefinger: “The past is the past. The future is all that’s worth discussing. The future of House Tyrell.”
Olenna: “Don’t pretend to have any concern for my House, my grandchildren, or me. I should have known you’d return to the capital as soon as things started to go wrong.”
Olenna: “I promise you, Lord Baelish, that our fates are joined. Together, we murdered a King. If my House should fall, I will have nothing to hide. And if I should meet with some ‘accident’ here at your broken little flesh-market, they’ll never even find what’s left of you.“
As you can clearly see, if House Tyrell is going to flower again, Lady Olenna will have to be the one to lead the charge.
So where does each member of House Tyrell stand at the beginning of Season 6?
Margaery is still imprisoned, but according to filming news, it won’t last. True to form, spoilers suggest that she’ll talk and act her way out of it.
Loras is still imprisoned…status unknown. I would guess he might choose a trial by combat.
Mace Tyrell will be sailing home from Braavos soon, sans the murdered Meryn Trant.
Lady Olenna stands alone in King’s Landing, but with House Tyrell’s bannermen coming to to the rescue (Randyl Tarly), she shan’t be alone for long.
House Tyrell hasn’t been mentioned much in the promotions for
Season 6. We’ve seen Septa Unella reading to who we are assuming is a penitent Margaery, but that’s about it. For the once proud house to once again grow strong, Loras will need to win his freedom, Mace must return and take charge of the Small Council, and Margaery must be acquitted of all charges brought against her by the Faith. Hang on folks, it’s gonna be a fun ride.
Game of Thrones Season 6 is rapidly approaching. What do we hope the first scene of Season 6 will...
From dinner parties to baby showers, Seth Meyers is always making sure that the characters of Game...
Have you already read all the books and/or don\'t care about spoilers? You can reveal all the spoilers in the comments with the click of a link below.
We’re supposedly going to visit Highgarden this season, according to Natalie Dormer in a wonderful interview “oops!”. Looking forward to it!
Personally, I don’t think so. Natalie talked on Jimmy Kimmel about the show and said: „I only read the scripts that are relevant for Margeary and Highgarden…um King’s Landing…“. For me, that was just a totally harmless slip.
I wonder what the gift of the young man was that LF gave OT last season. I assumed it was info on Lancel, but he would have probably confessed his sins to the HS before LF and OT spoke. Curiouser and curiouser.
We’ll probably be visiting Highgarden a bit before, and while Euron is laying siege to it.
I expect him to take it and head for King’s Landing. I’m not so sure any of the Greyjoy’s are going to Essos on screen in the show. I expect them to bring the Tyrells to their knees. Although I could be wrong, we’ll know for sure which way the arc is going depending on whether or not a certain horn pops up at the kingsmoot.
While I also expect Euron to be part of one of the major storylines, I doubt that we’re going to see Highgarden this season. With all the filming spoilers we’ve gotten, nothing would suggest it. And such a big thing like a siege would probably have leaked, like everything else. But yeah, it’s still a conundrum what Euron will actually do this season besides being at the Kingsmoot…
So who will Loras fight in a trial by combat? If it’s Lancel we will get to see a Lannnister death. But say Cersei offers Robert Strong to the high sparrow as champion for the faith we will see Oberyn part deux.
I’d love to see Loras fight Lancel. What a great fight — as long as Loras wins!
Loras would chew Lancel up and spit him out. U see no way Lancel wins unless there is something underhanded or Loras is too weak from being imprisoned.
I loathe how they portray Loras on the show, in the books he was a favorite of mine. He is one of the best swordsman in the realm, and he would utterly destroy Lancel in a one on one match.
Now a rematch with the mountain… with no horse trickery would indeed be fun.
Agreed Davos4King. I predict Loras will have time in the Red Keep to recover before his trial, like Cercei, so he’ll take down Lancel with ease — and hopefully he’ll kill Olyvar at some point, if the Faith don’t do it for him.
And Cersei will have soomething pretty nasty waiting for Septa Unella I’ll bet….I wouldnt want to see Loras fight Robert Strong… remember Brienne kicked his butt once..thats how she won her spot on Renly s guard….and Robert is a little scarier than our girl Brienne….all I know is I was really waiting for a season 6 trailer….as Winter is Coming, but not soon enough…..feels like April 24 will never get here…..waiting…waiting…waiting….
Brienne defeated the Hound and disarmed Jaime as well so she is no push over at all.
Well more fool him for provoking a fight while he was in that situation.
I wouldn’t say she kicked his butt, but she did beat him… Loras beat the Mountain once too even if there was a little “cheating” involved. If Robert is indeed the Mountain reanimated as many suspect, is he stronger now? Faster? Can he take more pain?
It is a scary concept to consider he could be more fierce after brought back to life by the necromancer/chain-less maester.
I believe Olyvar (Loras’ lover) will either recant or turn up dead. A gift from Littlefinger to House Tyrell, especially now that Littlefinger has good reason to hate the High Sparrow and Faith Militant for destroying his brothel…and generally destroying the prostitution business. In any case, Olyvar is the only witness against Loras and Margery, so without his testimony there really won’t need to be a trial. But I still expect there to be some kind of civil war between the Tyrell bannermen (led by Randyl Tarly) against the Sparrows.
Loras will ask for a triall by combat against the sparrows champion who could be lancel who will get sick before the fight maybe dies in the hands of littlefinger to keep the peace with house Tyrell. Cercei is on triall by the sparrow as well so she will choose a champion Robert strong obviously but who will be the sparrows chsmpion happens to be none other than the the grave digger aka Sandor Clegaine the hound that would be a deadly fight hurry up season 6
There are implications in the books about the Hound and why he would champion the Faith. But nothing is confirmed and it is just speculation. Also, there’s no way to know just yet if the show will go in that direction at all.
$Bill, are you talking about how there is that theory that the hound is the gravedigger on that island who got rescued by the brothers?
I always forget about that clegane bowl theory for some reason…..
It’s part of that silly cleganebowl “theory” that is going around.
A three way battle? That matches Bran’s Greendream in a sense… minus the golden armor. Though House Tyrell is Green and yellow/gold so maybe he wears his non-green plate? Might be a reach.
“There were shadows all around them. One Shadow was dark as ash, with the terrible face of a hound. Another was armored like the sun, golden and beautiful. Over them loomed a Giant in armor made of stone, but when he opened his visor, there was nothing inside but darkness and thick black blood.”
Who’s going to die in episode 1? Last season, it was Mance, and we should expect another character death for episode 1. I remember the cast members saying that season 6 starts off with a bang, and shocking moments galore. Unless Myrcella is the death, I think the death will be Walda or Alliser Thorne.
I just thought of something, and I promise I’m not the first to think this: Does the post-BoB meeting in the Winterfell courtyard between LF, Sansa, Jon, and Ramsey confirm Rickon’s death?
Rickon stark is not going to die he’s the future stark it be a waste of time bringing him back if he died. Is jon snow coming back know 1 actually knows but D&D and the crew. I reckon rickon could marry margery in the future sansa will arrange a match for him with her or maybe jon once he’s no linger bastard all I know that ned had already started planning looking for a husband for sansa loras was 1 trystane could of been another never know . He would of wanted a powerful house for his oldest daughter to be married too southern ambitions
