These theories try to prophesise how the series will end, but just how likely are they?
As admitted by George R. R. Martin in an interview this week, certain fans have already predicted the ending of a Song of Ice and Fire, the book series that Game of Thrones is adapted from. Thanks to the vast amount of theories out there, this doesn’t really narrow it down, but it does confirm that the author has hidden enough clues in the novels to piece together what might come to pass.
From long-alluded to prophecies being fulfilled, to grand conspiracies, many of these fan theories make for fascinating reads, regardless of their likelihood. Thanks to Martin’s well-known practice of frequent foreshadowing and penchant for events repeating themselves, it’s easy to be convinced by many of these theories. In fact, there have been several occasions in which fans have correctly predicted major events in the series, such as the Three-Eyed Crow’s identity and the fate of Robb Stark.
This list takes a look at 10 of the most interesting fan theories on how the series will end. Most aren’t all-encompassing, but each focuses on how a certain plot thread might potentially be wrapped up. While most of the stuff here is speculation, please note that there may be spoilers, from both the television series and the books all the way up to A Dance with Dragons.
