He was going to force his daughter to marry without even asking how she felts about it, didn't pay attention to her, wasn't interested in what she had to say, and the icing on top he said "You have shamed your father" and "Because of your foolishness, Kocoum is dead". He just had to make her feel worse than she already did. Well maybe if you would just listen to her in the first place he wouldn't be dead buddy.

If you base it on sequels, Triton really let his daughters down after his wife died.

General Li put his son's success above his son

He seems emotionless and stern. He does not even let his son adress him as father. He sees his son as a commander and not a son of his. He just seems distant to me

Jayden-G, that's how they did it in China, after puberty fathers took distance to their sons and they were more formal to each other but it doesn't mean they care any less their sons. And it was quite formal situation so that may be reason he wouldn't let Shang call him father, but we don't know how they'd act alone. I understand your point though.
I never really see Fergus like a father, he's more like uncle.

I don't think that General Li really acts distant...I mean he praises his son in a very public setting. But they are not there as father and son, they are there as General and captain, it's not appropriate to start hugging (or whatever he is supposed to do). And what he did for him? Giving him an education and supporting his abilities for starters. And rewarding his hard work with the rank he deserves.

Similar to King Herbert or Hubert or whatever it is, he doesn't really want to know his daughter's opinion in the matter of marriage, and decides for her. Sure, he had courage to put her safety before his own desires by letting the fairies take her away, but other than that, he isn't a great father.
I honestly think King Triton is awesome, and I love how he changes throughout the movie to come to understand Ariel and actually listen to her, the way a father should

He takes absolutely no care of his kids. All he does all day is to fool around. He doesn't seem to want his kids to learn anything, or to know the law, or to have an interest in anything, that would be essential when they become rulers.

BelleAnastasia Stereotypically, especially in those time periods that was the mothers job...She took care of the home and the children and the man provided food,shelter, and protection....For that time period Fergus was a great Father (his family was provided for, he loved them, and he protected and took care of them)

We never really see him! And who is Cassium?
