Chapter 3- Zuko’s Decision
Zuko enjoyed Suki’s waffles. He was glad he didn’t eat Sokka’s pancakes. Though what he was really thinking about was Katara. When she had touched his arm, what felt like sparks crawled up his arm. He never felt this way about a girl before, especially a girl who is just supposed to be his friend.
When he got back home, Mai greeted him in the huge doorway.
“Where were you?” Mai asked, walking along with him.
“I went to Aang’s house for breakfast,” Zuko answered.
“You also went to see that Water Tribe girl, didn’t you?”
Zuko stopped walking and faced her. “What?”
“Katara, bạn know, that pretty girl bạn saved?” Mai said.
Zuko’s eyes narrowed a little. “I know, but what about her?”
“Just don’t get too close to her,” Mai advised. “She reminds me of one of those stupid girls who thinks shells at the bờ biển, bãi biển are presents.”
“She’s my friend, Mai. I don’t like bạn judging her like that, especially not to me,” Zuko told her.
He walked ahead, leaving Mai behind.
That night, as Zuko was asleep, he pulled at his covers and grinded his teeth. Then he woke up with a scream. Once again he was drenched in cold sweat for he had, yet again, another dream about his mother.
“I can’t take this anymore,” Zuko muttered. “I have to find my mother.”
He got out of giường and changed into his black outfit to blend in with the night. tiếp theo he packed up everything he needed for the trip in a bag. Then he went back to his room and lit a candle. He got a few pieces of paper, ink and a quill. He wrote two letters, one to whoever finds it and one to his uncle to watch the ngọn lửa, chữa cháy nation for him. When he was all done he rolled and tied both. He set one his giường and one he sent with a messenger hawk. After that, he quietly walked out of the Royal Palace. Mai was trang chủ that night, so he had to be extra sneaky going bởi her house. Once he did that, he headed for Aang’s house.
When he got there he knocked on the door. Katara opened it and smiled when she saw him.
“Oh. Hey, Zuko,” Katara said. “What are bạn doing here so late?”
“I need to speak to Aang. I need to ask him a favor,” Zuko answered.
“Sure. Uh, come in,” Katara told him.
She moved out the way and Zuko walked in. She closed the door behind him.
“You can sit on the đi văng while I get Aang,” Katara said.
Zuko sat on the đi văng like she đã đưa ý kiến as Katara went to Aang’s room. A một phút later she came back with him bởi her side.
“What’s going on?” Aang asked.
“I need to borrow Appa,” Zuko replied as he stood up. “I want to tìm kiếm for my mother.”
Katara’s eyes went wide.
“I’m going to the Earth Kingdom, that’s where I think she is. The trip is going to take a while, and I think it’ll be quicker if I fly on your bison,” Zuko explained. “My uncle is going to watch the nation for me while I’m gone. I just sent him a letter—”
“I’m going with you,” Katara blurted out.
Zuko and Aang looked at her.
Katara walked closer to Zuko and said, “You helped me with my mother issues, and I want to help bạn with yours. It’s the least I can do.”
Zuko nodded, secretly extremely happy that she was coming along.
“I’m going too,” Aang announced. “In fact, we’ll all go with you. You’ll need all the help bạn can get.”
“Thank you,” Zuko said.
“We can start in the morning,” Katara added. “We’ll need a lot of sleep.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea,” Zuko opposed. “I’ve been having nightmares lately about my mother. I don’t want to have another one again.”
“No sleep isn’t the answer, Zuko,” Katara insisted. “You have to sleep. It’s the only way you’ll have the strength to face the challenges ahead of you. bạn taught me that, remember?”
Zuko nodded and smirked. She smirked back. Then, saying goodnight, Zuko got ready to fall asleep in their small guestroom.
