Twila and Alex stood outside the mountain, hiding in the shadows. They could feel the dark magic inside, waiting to overflow. Twila turned to Alex, worry in her eyes.
“The process is too far along. We're too late!”
Alex cupped her cheeks in his hands, looking down at her.
“Everything will work out. I promise.”
“How can bạn be so calm?! She's dying in there! I can't stop! There's too much of it!”
His thumbs stroked her soft skin, tears making the surface wet. He gave a small smile, kissing her forehead.
“Nothing to fear love. No one will die this night.”
“How can bạn be so sure?”
“I trust my instincts. I control time. Nothing will harm them.”
Twila looked up at him, her tears at bay.
“I hope you're right. If anything happens to them...”
“Need I remind you? She knew about it from the very beginning. She knew all of this would happen.”
“Yes but that's only because-”
“Shhh. No excuses. She knew and sacrificed. There will be no thêm of this. Just trust me.”
Twila looked at him. Alex had always been able to predict these things. He had a natural talent for it. But there was one thing that still worried her.
“What of Masq? She will not come with us, bạn must know that.”
“I do. And bạn must know that I have everything planned out. She may control magic, but the element of time will not be on her side. And she may...find it hard to move.”
Twila smiled.
“You have a very sneaky mind.”
“Thank you, my dear. Now. Let's leave. I hear a speedster coming.”
“My brother. He must have found the other warrior.”
“Yes. He may be chivalrous, but he has always been taken with brunettes.”
Alex waved his hand and a portal opened up. He offered his arm to Twila, who took it.
“Shall we leave?”
Twila smiled up at him, blue eyes twinkling.
“Let's. I won't want to be here when my brother is...denied shall we say.”
The two stepped inside and the portal closed, leaving a little sparkle in it's wake.
