Also vampire politics play a big role in the stores like in TB/Sookie Stackhouse series. Instead of areas and kingdoms, vamps in this series belong to vampire houses. Each house has their own traditions/culture. Chicago is a major vamp city, with three houses calling it home: Cadogan, Navarre, and Grey.

The main character, Merit, is turned into a vampire, without her consent after she was attacked and near death. She is changed bởi Ethan Sullivan, Cadogan House Master.

A major part of the 1st book is Merit's struggle with the life-altering change, being a new Cadogan vamp, and her reluctance to live under Ethan's command.
