Author: LeosGirl, but you may call me Mad Hatter.

Rating: T...I guess :P

Summary: There was a child. She was born for a reason. Not to live a normal life, not allowed to make her own decisions, but to be a weapon. What kind of weapon? The most feared, ultimate power runs through her veins, her heart pumped the blood of a fighter. She was a weapon.

A weapon of the gods.

Disclaimer: I do own some of the characters and the plot, but the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus characters go to Rick Riordan. :)

Characters: Anastasia, Lilly, Percy, Annabeth, Leo, Hazel, Frank, and the rest of the gang along with some other characters I created.

I hope you like it. ~Mad Hatter<3

Chapter 1: The Beginning

There was a child. She was born for a reason. Not to live a normal life, not allowed to make her own decisions, but to be a weapon. What kind of weapon? The most feared, ultimate power runs through her veins, her heart pumped the blood of a fighter. She was a weapon.

A weapon of the gods.

“Nyx,” Zeus spoke in a serious tone, “We have a request.” He stood with fake confidence with the other gods. They were each a dozen feet tall, but were puny compared to the size of Nyx.
“What is this ‘request’?” She sneered. Her eyes shone with the anger of a meteorite and her sky black hair floated around her like a Van Gogh painting come to life. Her long dress showed no curves, no lines, just darkness; stars dotted the dress, matching the sky.
“A child.” The god of lightnings’ voice echoed off the Corinthian, white, stone walls, “We request a child.”
Nyx stared, she raised her eyebrow, demanding an explanation. “We need a strong child. One that shall be a weapon against the enemy.”

The palace was quiet as they awaited Nyx’s decision. “Fine,” she answered boredly, “I will grant your request of a child. But,” she smiled, “Who will raise the young one?”
The Olympians looked at each other, mumbling awkwardly. Secretly pleading that another shall take the baby.

“I will.” One of them stepped forward. His black, long hair and unkempt beard was groomed to the best it could be and his sea green eyes glowed beautifully with determination.
“Ah,” Nyx smiled, amused, “I should have known that kind Poseidon would take the thing. Fine then, Poseidon, congratulations. You are a father.” She laughed as her figure went up into a flash of light and dispersed into a small supernova. A midnight black basket sat on the ground where her feet used to be.

Poseidon’s face softened slightly as he went to see his new kinly. He shrunk to human size and the other Olympians watched as he picked up a small bundle in a sky blue blanket.

“What is your name child?” He whispered fondly to the baby. The small thing yawned and looked up at him with wide, new eyes.

“Your name, my little girl,” Poseidon whispered, “Shall be Anastasia. Save us all, my dear child. You are our resurrection.” The baby girl smiled at her godly father, not knowing the true meaning behind his words.

A/N: I will try to post when it is possible. I know I have been gone a lot, due to delays, and I am very sorry. I am still not 100% back to fanpop yet, and I don't know when I will be, but I will do my best to post. Please forgive my tardiness.

Chapter 2: Escaping

Anastasia threw her bag out the dirt covered window and into the bushes below. She had one leg out the window when she saw someone opening the door. She panicked, prepared to jump, “Wait!” They whispered haltingly. Anastasia exhaled, “You scared me, child.”
“Where are you going?” The five year old girl had wet eyes as she walked to the window. “Don’t leave.” Anastasia felt her heart splinter, “I must. I’m so sorry. But I am needed, Tiger. The dreams are more frequent now and I need to get out of here.”
Lilly nodded. “I’m going to miss you, Stasia.” Tears streaked her cheeks and Anastasia felt one roll down her cheek. “You are my big sister.”

Lilly and Anastasia both were dropped off at the grey washed orphanage when they were just babies. Anastasia, being sixteen, was the oldest there and many of the younger ones looked up to her. The faculty was crude and harsh, leaving Anastasia to care for the young ones. Now, all the children were adopted. All except Anastasia and Lilly. They were not blood related, but loved and acted as if they were. Most children would have been bitter, but they chose not to be.

Anastasia wasn’t sad at all, in fact, she already knew that she had a father. She didn’t know what he looked like, she did not know the feel of holding his hand or his warm hugs, but, she knew his words. He has always been there, ever since she was little, talking to her, guiding her through this rough life. Now, he was telling her to leave that place and discover a new world. “I must leave, father says so,” she whispered, tears starting to fall without her permission.
“May I come?” Lilly was begging with those big brown eyes.
“Tiger Lilly, I-”
“The child may come. She is practically blood anyways. But you must hurry, my daughters.” Her fathers voice flowed through her mind in a comforting encouragement.

“Come on!” Anastasia shrugged towards the window as she gave her little kin a smile. Lilly ran and grabbed her shoes before waiting for Anastasia to jump. She made a leap and landed on her feet, ready for the world. Anastasia gave Lilly words of encouragement, “I’ll catch you! Let’s go!” She opened her arms to catch her.
“Goodbye,” Lilly whispered to the only home she ever knew and jumped, her blonde curls flying behind her as she landed safely in Anastasia’s open arms.
They ran, holding hands, to go to the haven their father has told them about.

“Is he my daddy, too?” Anastasia thought for a second, “I think so. He treats us as sisters and loves you like he loves me.”
“Then why can’t I hear daddy?” Anastasia stopped in her tracks. “I...I don’t know. I don’t even know how I can hear father. But...I can.”
They walked for quite awhile. Father, where are we supposed to go? Anastasia was lost but kept walking.
Find the water. Any water. And I shall find you.

“I’m tired,” Lilly yawned. Her feet started to drag and her small legs ached. Anastasia frowned, “Get on my back,” she bent down and Lilly scuffled onto her shoulders, grateful for a piggyback ride. Anastasia was surprised by how heavy she was but ignored it. She kept walking, her small bag in one hand and Tiger Lilly on her back.

Where’s that water? She hissed to herself as her spine ached and her feet dragged.
Then she heard it.
The rushing of water. Begging her to come, awaiting her arrival. She smiled and picked up speed a little. “Thank you, father.” She whispered.

They came to a small river and Anastasia collapsed, the weight becoming too much and her stomach growing too empty. “Stasia?” Lilly desperately called for her, “Stasia!”
That was when Anastasia’s sight went black and her fatigue got the better of her. She gladly accepted the rest. Besides, she made it to the water.

Hope you liked chapter 2. :D

Chapter 3: Where Am I?

Bright light blinded Anastasia as she opened her eyes, making her quickly shut them again. She let her eyes adjust before opening them again. Her head hurt and she felt dizzy. She surveyed her surroundings.

The room was beautiful: whitewashed walls met marble floors. On further inspection, she saw shells sealed into the marble, making it uniquely beautiful. The ceiling was a beautiful baby blue. The bed she was in was almost royalty-like, with a tall canopy and sea green sheets. That’s when she noticed little Lilly asleep next to her.

She was about to brush a piece of bang out of Lilly’s face when the door opened, startling her. “Who are you?” She demanded in a whisper. “Please, do not be startled. I am here to tell the princesses that breakfast is ready and that their father wants to see them.” The man was not a man. He looked like a normal human being, young, around Anastasias'' age, but if you looked closely you could see gills, carefully hidden underneath his collar and small scales covered his body. He was wearing black slacks, a blue T-shirt and shockingly, no shoes. Anastasia was fascinated by his blue, ruffled and messy hair. He looked like an impish sea monkey.

He saw Anastasias’ wide eyes and smiled. “I am Azzurra, I serve your father and tend to his palace. And now,” he gave her a kind smile, “I serve the princesses.”

‘Princesses’....? Wait....“U-us?” Azzurra just laughed, “Your father is waiting.”

Father...

Azzurra bowed, which Anastasia found very awkward, before closing the door behind him. “Lilly! Tiger Lilly!” Anastasia gently pushed her to rouse her. “H-huh? Anastasia?” She became excited when she finally woke up, “Anastasia! Father! I met him! And-and he lives here! You were sick! Are you okay?” Anastasia laughed and grabbed her shoulders to calm her down. “I am fine. Father wants to see us.” She smiled and Lilly returned it. They both quickly jumped out of bed.

They exited the room to find an even bigger world around it. “Whoa,” Anastasia whispered as she looked down both ways of the seemingly never-ending hallway. “Which way?” She grumbled. She chose to go left and made sure Lilly was behind her. Her heart raced as more people like Azzurra passed them. It did not frighten Lilly, who laughed and kept calling them “Fish people”. Surprisingly, the beautiful creatures loved it and laughed with her.

This is beyond weird... I think I’m lost, she bit her lip. She definitely did not want to get lost in this new place, without her father.

Anastasia? Where are you? Breakfast is becoming cold.

Anastasia jumped. So he can still talk to me even when I’m in his palace?

Her face flushed when she heard a deep laugh, Yes, I can.

She gave up her pride and slumped her shoulders, I got us lost.

Anastasia couldn’t help but glare at open air as she could hear the smirk in her father’s deep, kind voice, Don’t worry. I will send Azzurra to escort you. See you soon.

Lilly knew by Anastasias’ rapidly changing facial expressions that she was talking to father. “Is daddy coming?”

“No, Azzurra.” Anastasia couldn’t help the disappointment in her voice, while Lilly smiled and danced on the balls of her feet.
“I hear the princesses need my acquaintance?” Azzurra chuckled. “Fishy!” Lilly squealed and ran to him. Anastasia gave them a bewildered look. “Little princess has become attached to me,” he laughed and picked her up.

Anastasia rolled her eyes, “Can you please take us to our father? And don’t call me ‘princess’. I am simply Anastasia.” One corner of Azzurras’ mouth turned up, “As you wish, Anastasia.”

I hate him... she thought to herself as she followed behind him down multiple corridors and hallways. She noticed a small, sleek, knife, in the shape of a shell, attached to his belt. They came to a humongous dining hall and Anastasias’ jaw dropped. With a sly smile, Azzurra gently closed her mouth before walking away.

I really hate him... Anastasia walked down the side of the long, granite table, surveying all the foods, Lilly following, nearly stepping on her heels. “Are you hungry?” A familiar voice asked.

“Father?” Anastasia whipped around. Her father was tall, with unruly black hair, a scruffy beard to match, kind eyes, and a devilish smile. He was dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and green swimming trunks. She gave him a sideways look. He looked at his outfit, “Not spiffy enough?” He chuckled softly. Anastasia ran into his arms, “You are my father.” He smiled, “Yes I am. Now, you must eat. I do not need you fainting again and we have much to discuss. Eat whatever you like.”

A/N: Okay, end of Chapter 3! I hope you liked it. Chapter 4 will most likely be up Saturday, unless I get some free time to post like I did today.

Okay, here comes chapter 4! I decided I am going to post Saturdays and Sundays because I am so far ahead in writing chapters. I will probably post this Monday, too, because I don't have school.

Chapter 4: A Long Waited Discussion

“So, um,” Anastasia nibbled her food awkwardly, “What exactly are...these people?” She had to choose her words carefully, as not to offend any of the cooks, servants, or just company that were busy around them.

Poseidon laughed, “They are my people. The citizens of Poseidons’ world.”
Anastasia began rapid fire mode, “Where are we? Why do you live in such a large palace? Why did you tell me to come here now? And what is my ‘quest’?”

“Woah, my child. One question at a time,” he took a sip of a golden liquid, “We are in my palace. Humans call it ‘Atlantis’,” Anastasia's’ eyes widened, “But it is just my home, and now yours. I live in such a large palace because, well...” He looked down in thought, “You see, my child, the unique people that live here,” she nodded, “Then that is proof that many things are possible, is it not?” She nodded, again. “Well, there are gods and goddesses. And I am one of them. I am the god of the sea.”

Anastasia nodded, not surprised, “That explains all of this and why I can hear you in my mind. But why am I here? Just now?”
Poseidon smiled sadly, “I am sorry that you are not home earlier, but I had to put you in that orphanage until you were ready. I need you to train.”
“Train? For what?”

“For your quest. There are twelve gods that you must prove you're worthy to. Zeus; god of lightning and the skies, also your uncle. Hades; god of death and the Underworld, your other uncle. Hera; goddess of cows and childbearing. Hestia; goddess of the hearth and home. Ares; god of war and bloodshed. Athena; goddess of owls, wisdom, and battle strategy. Apollo; god of healing, prophecy, poetry, the sun, and song. Aphrodite; goddess of love, beauty and doves. Hermes; god of messengers, travelers, mischief, medicine and thieves. Artemis; goddess of the hunt, the moon and wolves. And Hephaestus; god of blacksmiths, forgery, and fire.”

Anastasias’ mind reeled. “How am I suppose to prove I am worthy to gods?!”
Poseidon frowned, “I know this is a lot to take in, but you will adjust to it. Each of them will bless you, giving you their powers and you must prove to them that you are worthy of their powers.”
“But how?”

“You must fight them.”

What?!

“Oh, and me, too.”

WHAT?!

Okay, hope you like. Questions?

Here comes chapter 5. The first training session!! :D

Chapter 5: The Power Of The Sea

Anastasia stood in the middle of the flat, battle arena. Lilly sat with Azzurra in the bleachers, patiently waiting. Anastasia took a deep breath. "Explain to me what is going to happen, again."

Poseidon nodded, "I am going to give you my blessing, you will feel a little pain, just for a second and then you shall feel stronger and a little out of sorts." He pointed at her, "What do you look like right now?"

Anastasia envisioned herself in front of a mirror, "I am quite tall for my age, I am skinny, I am wearing ripped jeans and a worn black T-shirt..."

"Your hair, child?"

She grimaced, "White," she whispered, "Paper white."

Poseidon nodded, "And your eyes?"

"One is green, like yours and the other is...black. Night black." Anastasia has never liked the fact that she looked so different from everybody else, but it was necessary.

"When I bless you, your hair will change. Instead of solid white, it will have a streak of sea green it; signifying that you have earned my blessing. Your hair will continue to earn the streaks of the gods until there is no white."

Anastasia smiled, "Rainbow hair?"

He laughed, "Rainbow hair."

"And my eyes?"

Poseidon thought about how to describe this part. "They will not be one solid color. They will constantly...shift colors. You will never have a permanent eye color."

Anastasia grimaced. That was even worse than her two different eyes. She nodded, "Okay. I guess I'm ready."

Poseidon nodded. He closed his eyes in concentration and Anastasia waited for something to happen. She noticed a green glow surrounding her body and became fearful. Then it slowly faded away.

"Well?" Poseidon asked.

"I don't feel any different," she shrugged.

"Concentrate, child." He commanded. Anastasia closed her eyes and listened to her heart beat. She heard the soft lull of ocean water behind her ears and she felt stronger, just like Poseidon said. “Do you feel it now?” She nodded.

Poseidon motioned for her to approach him. When she stood next to him, he waved his hand and a small puddle of water appeared in front of her feet, startling her.

“Move it,” was all he said. Anastasia wrinkled her nose at him but he just repeated himself. She looked down at the puddle and closed her eyes. She opened her eyes and found that nothing happened. “Move,” she hissed in a whisper. Her eyes widened as it splashed over the side, into the dirt beside them. Poseidon smiled and nodded, “Very good. Now, lift it.”

She looked at him like he was insane. “Um, levitate?” She whispered, earning a chuckle from her father. Nothing happened, “Try again.” She took a deep breath. Her father watched with fascination as she crouched down. Anastasia ran her hand over the surface of the water and then lifted her hand up, raising the water off the ground and into the air. She lost her concentration and the water fell, splashing around her feet.

“You must not break your concentration. When you are in battle, that will cost you your life. Concentrate and block your surroundings out. Get rid of all your fear and fight.” Anastasia nodded at her father. She waved her hand above the water and it condensed back into a puddle, she lifted her hand again and started standing up. The water followed her hand until it reached her height, floating in air. “Excellent,” she smiled as her father complemented her.

“Now, get rid of it.” Anastasia closed her eyes. “Leave me,” she whispered. There was a pulling sensation in her body. She opened her eyes to find the water gone and dropped her hand to her side, stunned. “Now, you must learn to use it to fight.”

“How?” Her father smiled, “Like this!” He raised a spout of water out of the ground and aimed it at his daughter. “Defend yourself!”
She barely dodged it and ran, “That’s not fair!” Anastasia ran, annoying her father as he created more water spouts around the field, her just dodging them as they popped up at her feet. “You are my child! Now, fight!” I am his child. Water is my power. She stopped running and waited for him to create another spout at her feet.

The familiar feeling began in her body and she crouched as water began to seep into the dirt at her feet, turning it a dark brown. Fear coursed through her veins as the rush of water became louder, “Do not break your concentration!” Her father warned her, but it was too late. The water gushed out of the ground and into the air, taking Anastasia with it. “Anastasia! Fight it!” He yelled.

Anastasia cussed and cried out in pain as the water burned her skin and took the air from her lungs. She took a shallow breath and found that she could breath. Woah. The water surrounded her, as she was stuck in the middle of the spout. I need to get out. She was confused and dazed.

Anger spread through her, This isn’t funny, father. He did not answer. Fight it, I control this water. “I control you.” She spat into the fountain. “Leave me!” She hissed. The water, in a frenzy, left her, allowing her to see the arena and how high up she was. I’m going to fall... “Hold me,” she told the water and it condensed under her feet. She slowly regained her balance and looked down at her father, who looked so small at her height. “That wasn’t funny!” He smiled and shrugged. She made a pushing gesture with her left hand and some of the water left and shot at her father. At the last second, he gained control of it and threw it to the side. “Excellent!” He cheered ecstatically as she slowly lowered the water spout, setting her on the ground.

Poseidon shot a ball of water, that was quite large and could crush Anastasia, back at her. She raised her fist, the water matching, and slammed the water fist down onto the ball, causing a wave to disperse at their feet. “Go Anastasia!” Anastasia laughed at Lilly’s squeal.

“Crush her, your majesty!”

Anastasia whipped around and threw a fist of water, about the size of a baseball, at Azzurra. Unlucky for him, it hit him in the chest with a loud “Oomph!" and knocked him backwards, over the back of his chair. Lilly cheered and laughed in response. Poseidon roared with laughter, “He’s not the one you should be fighting!” Anastasia turned to face him when a block of water struck her and pushed her back.

She regained her balance, staying on her feet, and caught it. She let out a battle cry as she threw it back at him. Just as he swiped that one out of the way, she threw another one. It hit him while he was off guard and pushed him back a couple feet. He gave her a smug smile and raised his hands.

Anastasia jumped as water spouts shot up all around her, circling her and pushing her in. She heard her father’ deep laugh and glared at the liquid. She took a deep breath, feeling the water close in around her and gained control of every drop. Lilly froze, Azzurra slumped in his chair, and Poseidon knitted his eyebrows in confusion as they waited for Anastasia to make her move. Poseidons’ eyes widened as the water completely engulfed her. “Anastasia?” Lilly whispered.

Lillys’ and Azzurras’ eyes widened and Poseidon took a step back as Anastasia released a fierce battle cry of fury. The water that surrounded her began to spin, creating a typhoon with Anastasia as the heart. She shot her arms outwards and the water dispatched. Creating a large tsunami racing for her father. It hit him hard, sending him into the arena wall.

Anastasia took deep breaths to calm her pulse. When she realized what she did, she ran to her father on the other side of the arena. “Father!” She cried as she knelt next to him, “I’m so sorry!” Poseidon let out his rough laugh, relieving his worried daughters and loyal servant. “Congratulations, my child! You have won! My blessing is yours.” He slowly and achingly stood up, with Anastasias’ help and put his hand on her head.
“I, Poseidon, give my blessings, my power, and my loyalty to my daughter, Anastasia the Ressurrector.”

Anastasia gasped as her body burned and her scalp tingled. Thankfully, as fast as it started, it ended. Anastasia felt more powerful and energized; the power of the ocean ran through her veins. She looked down into the water trashed floor, and saw her reflection. Her fingers traced the thin trace of beautiful green in her abnormal white hair and her eyes flashed blue and green.

“Well done, my daughter. You made me proud.” He clapped her shoulder and Anastasia smiled, suddenly realizing how tired she was.

“Come, you must rest.” Azzurra grabbed her arm and Lilly grabbed her hand. “Crush who, fishboy?” Azzurra gulped and Poseidon laughed as they retreated into the palace.

Chapter 6: Friends?

"Father," Anastasia waited till Azzurra left the room to ask this question, "Why does Azzurra have a knife on him?" Poseidon smiled, "Why wouldn't my daughters' bodyguard be armed?"

Anastasia nearly choked on her dinner, "Bodyguard? Why do we need a bodyguard?"

"He will be escorting you as much as he can for your protection."

"Why? It's not like we need him. Our father is a god, not to mention that I can take care of myself." Poseidon gave her a cold look, "Do not become pompous, child. And I can not escort you to the next training sessions, so he will." By the look on her fathers' face, Anastasia knew not to object.

"I like Fishy." Lilly put her opinion out there. Anastasia smiled the best she could, "I know, Tiger."
"Hurry up and eat. I need to prepare you for your next opponent."

"Who?" Anastasia took a bite of bread.
"Zeus. The strongest Olympian." Anastasia choked. "Shouldn't I fight the weaker ones first?"

Poseidon laughed, "We're just going by who wants to challenge you first." Anastasia picked at her food, "Oh great." She mumbled. "Go get some rest."

Lilly took Anastasias' hand and they walked to their room. "I'm going to stay with daddy while you sleep." Lilly hugged Anastasia and ran to Poseidon.

Anastasia jumped onto her new bed, exhausted.

"Miss, your clothes." Anastasia jumped. "Oh, Azzurra. Thank you." She gave him a sleepy smile.

"Your father chose a convenient outfit for training tomorrow and a set of pajamas. It can't be comfortable sleeping in those clothes." Azzurra nodded and handed the stack of clothes to her. "The baths are just off the hall. Sleep well, princess."

"Don't call me that." Anastasia grumbled.

"Sorry, Anastasia." Azzurra bowed.

"You do not need to bow. Actually, I prefer you don't." Azzurra looked shocked, "But miss, I must or else that would be rude and out of line."

Anastasia shook her head, "Father does not bow to me. Lilly does not bow to me. And I certainly don't make my friends bow to me."

"But I am not your friend, I am your bodyguard and servant under strict orders from your father." Azzurra was doing his best to polite and orderly.

"Well, I don't need a bodyguard, so I prefer you would be my friend instead." Anastasia snapped.

Azzurra took a deep breath, "I didn't mean for it to come out that way. If the princess will allow it, I would like to be her friend." He ended it with an impish smile.
Anastasia rolled her eyes, but smiled. "Okay."

Azzurra walked to the door, but stopped. "Yes?" Anastasia raised an eyebrow. "May I say something? As a friend?"

Anastasia nodded. "You are very strong, Anastasia. Children of the gods do not accept this life as well as you do. You know your fate, yet you choose to accept it. Not many people would have that strength and that courage."

Anastasia shook her head, "What choice do I have? If I do not fight, I lose the people I love. I was born for this. To them, I am just a tool to their advantage." Anastasia slumped onto the side of the bed.

"Wrong, Anastasia," Azzurra knelt in front of her, "That's what they want to believe. The truth is that the gods just can't admit the fact that you are their hero, you are their salvation, and that you are their Ressurrector."

“But I’m so scared,” Anastasia fought tears, “They want me to fight them? I am a child and they are gods! And I know nothing about them!”

“You defeated your father, didn't you?” Anastasia nodded, “That means that you have the strength to defeat the rest of them, too. And, would you allow me to help you? As a friend?”

Anastasia laughed, “That’s going to be your excuse for everything, isn’t it? How can you help me?”

“I know the Olympians. Before you fight them, I can tell you about each one.”

Anastasia nodded, “That would be a lot of help. What is Zeus like?”

Azzurra looked up in thought for a moment, “Zeus is...proud. He can be very pompous at times due to his high position. He is very strong and must be respected.” Anastasia gulped, “But,” Azzurra gave Anastasia a little glimmer of hope, “Zeus’ ego, though it is his strongest weapon, is also his biggest downfall. Use it to your advantage.”

Anastasia nodded, a little happier, “But,” Azzurra added, “Be wise on how you use it.”

After saying good night, they went their separate ways: Azzurra to serve Poseidon and Lilly; Anastasia to bathe and sleep.

His ego, Anastasia thought as she crawled under the covers, That is how I am going to win.

Okay, that was chapter 6! It's kind of short and not that entertaining but I wanted a scene where Anastasia and Azzurra could develop a relationship. I hope you liked it! Chapter 7 will most likely be up Saturday unless I get some free time.

Chapter 7: Putting Your Finger In The Socket

“Wake up, Anastasia! Good morning!” Azzurra pulled the covers off of her. “Argh!” She grumbled and flipped away from him. “Miss, you must get up. Zeus will be here momentarily!” That got her up, fast.

Anastasia threw on the clothes her father recommended: black jeans, steel toed boots, and a white shirt with light chainmail sewed into it. The links were quite small, so it gave her the utmost protection but is not as heavy as a regular suit of armour. “Cool,” she whispered as she ran her fingers over the chinks. “Are you ready?” Azzurra called outside her door.

“Coming!” She called as she walked up to him.

“Remember what I told you?” He asked her as he escorted her to the battle arena. She nodded, “I got it. Oh, and Azzura,” He stopped and faced her, “Thanks.” He smiled and sat in the bleachers, with Lilly.
Anastasia took a deep breath and stood on the far, left side of the arena. She waited for Zeus, her nerves increasing. There was a flash of lightning and booming thunder, leaving a man wearing a business suit on the other side of the arena.

“I don’t have all day, child,” he spat, “Let’s get this over with.” If he hadn’t been him , Anastasia probably would have laughed at the grey man; his pinstripe, clean suit, grey beard, and impatient look was almost amusing.

Anastasia closed her eyes as a blue shine took over her body. She heard a clap of thunder and opened her eyes. “If you use your fathers’ pesky powers,” Zeus warned, “You may consider my blessing gone.”

“If you call my father ‘pesky’ again,” Anastasia hissed, “You can consider my help gone.”

Anger flared in Zeus’ eyes, but he covered it up with booming laughter, “Don’t be absurd, child! You are nothing! I can easily find another guinea pig like you to use.”

“Don’t be so pompous, fool.” She spat.

“‘Fool’?!” Zeus threw a lightning bolt, Anastasia barely dodging it. She grabbed her hand with a cuss, noticing the burn across the outside of her palm. Zeus laughed, “When you play with fire, you are destined to get burned.”

This guy is even worse than what Azzurra said, Anger was pumping through Anastasias’ body as she cradled her injured hand. I need to go on the offense. Anastasia was thinking hard. Zeus...God of the skies and lightning. Can I summon lightning, too?

Anastasia looked at the sky and closed her eyes. Come on, come on. There was a loud crack and Anastasia felt a buzzing sensation spread through her body. She opened her eyes and looked at her fingers, smiling at the electric blue shocks that danced on her fingertips. Zeus’s eyes widened, How can she figure out powers so fast? I didn’t even give her a hint... Anastasia rubbed her fingers together and watched as the electricity grew. She closed her hands and got in the position like she was going to throw a fastball and pitched.

Zeus caught the ball of lightning with a small, smug smile. “Pathetic,” he spat the word. He snapped his hands and a bolt of lightning struck Anastasias’ foot, making her cry out in pain. Azzurra jumped up, “Remember what I told you! You can do it!” Lilly was really worried, “Is she going to be alright?” Azzurra nodded, “She just needs to get her bearings.”

Anastasia patted out the slither of a flame on her boot and glared at the god of the skies. Recognition flashed behind her eyes, I need to use his ego. I need him to attack me. She began taunting him, “Is that all you can do? Without that huge ego of yours’ you would be a shell!” Careful, don’t go overboard, Azzurra was becoming worried. Zeus was furious, the air around him crackled with fury. “You say you’re a god, but you need a childs’ help to solve your problems!”

Zeus’ eyes widened and he cried out in anguish. He sent a huge bolt, deadly, that could knock out a city, at her. Anastasia screamed as the bolt knocked her off her feet and sent her flying. She flipped over in the air and could see the ground closing in on her. Fear and shock spread through. If she hit that ground...

Azzurra scrambled up, “Zeus can fly!” He screamed. Zeus sent him a glare as the words registered in Anastasias’ mind. Fly, she closed her eyes and listened to the wind passing her ears. God of the skies

... “Wind,” she yelled in desperation, “Hold me!” She felt pressure on the bottom of her feet and peeked one eye open.

She looked down, about ten feet above ground, standing in air. She laughed, and Azzurra cheered.

Anastasia started taking steps downward, the air making pockets to hold her weight. She reached the ground and gave Zeus a smug smile. Zeus grit his teeth in anger and shot bolt after bolt at her, her dismissing everyone with a wave of her hand, just like her father did with water. “My father taught me this,” she hissed as she took steps closer to him.

Anastasia was about two yards away from her opponent when she summoned water, disobeying the gods’ orders. “Anastasia, what are you doing?” Azzurra whispered, fiddling with nervousness. “You dare defy me, child?!” Zeus screamed in anger. The puddle moved around Anastasias’ feet as Zeus clapped his hands together, calling a master bolt from the sky, making the ones before puny in comparison.

Anastasia closed her eyes, just as the bolt hit her. She cried out in pain as the electricity coursed through her veins and into the water, multiplying it’s potency. It traveled back through her body and she raised her hand, pointing her finger at Zeus.

His eyes widened, “How?” He whispered, “That was more than enough electricity to end her...”

Anastasia looked at him with cold eyes and said, “Boom.” Pulling the trigger on her finger gun and sending the shock back at its’ original owner, bringing him to his knees. Zeus gripped his side in pain and Anastasia walked towards him, her body smoking. “This is why children shouldn’t stick their fingers in light sockets.” She gave him one last smirk as he snapped his fingers, flashing him out of the arena in retreat and also giving Anastasia his blessing.

Anastasia sighed as the familiar pain and tingling in her scalp passed over her body. She traced the new, beautiful streak of electric blue in her hair before looking at Azzurra. He gave her an encouraging smile, then a horrified look as she fell to her knees.

“I’m-I’m okay,” she lied as her head fogged.

“You need to rest, Anastasia.” Azzurra said, his words sounding groggy and far away to Anastasia. Exhaustion took over and Anastasia blacked out.

Chapter 8: Rest...Sord Of

Anastasia moaned as she opened her eyes, her eyelids feeling like cinder blocks. A woman like Azzurra with coral red hair greeted her with a smile. “Relax,” Her voice was kind, she was very beautiful, but was clearly in her older years by the knowledge and softness behind her eyes, “Your body is going to be very sore and you need to rest. You took quite a blow from Zeus.”

Amusement flashed behind the aquatic nurses’ eyes and Anastasia managed a small smile. “Your sister and your friend have been waiting to see you. Amazingly, the shock never would have killed you, but it could have caused damage. You’re lucky your friend carried you here as soon as he did.”

Anastasia managed to sit up with the nurses’ help. Her body was covered in bandages. “My clothes?” She whispered. “In your room.” The nurse smiled. “May I see my family and Azzurra?” Anastasia wiped her eyes, doing her best to swipe the fatigue out of them. The nurse nodded and left the room.

“Anastasia!” Lilly ran and jumped up on the bed. “Hey, Tiger Lilly.” Anastasia winced in pain as she pulled Lilly into a hug. “Are you feeling any better?” Poseidon sat on the edge of her bed. Anastasia nodded, “Yeah. A little.”

“On another note, you were amazing. Zeus! You defeated Zeus!” Poseidon playfully swatted the streak of blue in her hair. Anastasia laughed, “I’m banged up, but it was worth it. Seeing the look on his face.” She smiled at her fathers’ deep laugh. Azzurra stood in the doorway.

Poseidon looked at his daughter and then Azzurra before having a knowing smile. He got rid of it as soon as it appeared. “Come in, Azzurra. You may wish my daughter well, too.” Azzurra walked in and stood, with his arms crossed behind his back, on the other side of Anastasias’ hospital bed.

Anastasia looked him over while her father was complimenting her on her success; he was wearing white board shorts and a black tank top. You could clearly see the slits lining his neck and the shimmer of the micro scales lining his skin. He looks good... Anastasia mentally shook her head. She fought a blush as her father wrapped up his one-sided conversation.

“Poseidon, can your daughter have some ambrosia?” The nurse held a glass of a gold liquid. Poseidon smiled, “Ah, that would be great.” The nurse handed her the liquid and her and her father and Lilly left the room, discussing Anastasias’ recovery.

Anastasia wrinkled her nose and peered down the glass, “I hear it’s actually quite good and it should heal you quickly.” Azzurra bent over, “You must drink it.”

“I’m starting to notice how you love to give me orders.” Anastasia gave him a teasing smile. He chuckled, “I am only concerned with your well being, princess.” She rolled her eyes and took a sip. The flavor was amazing. “What does it taste like?” Azzurra whispered.

“It tastes like the candy bar.” Anastasia smiled at Azzurras’ confused look, “When Lilly was two and I was thirteen, I snuck out of the orphanage to go to the little town market, about five miles into town.” Azzurra sat next to her on the side of the bed. “I managed to save up change to buy a candy bar. It was the first candy bar me and Lilly ever had.” She had a nostalgic smile, “We shared it and it’s one of my favorite memories.”

She saw Azzurras’ goofy smile and blushed, “Sorry. I didn’t mean to be so nostalgic.” He shook his head, "No, it sounds like a wonderful memory."

Azzurra kept advising her until Anastasia finished the healing liquid. "Better?"

"A lot actually." Anastasia smiled and sat up taller. "Your burn?" She unwrapped the bandage to find a red streak across the back of her hand. She poked it gently, surprised when it didn't hurt. "Nothing." Her eyebrows knitted together as she looked at her wounds in awe. "I told you," Azzurra laughed, "The blessings and the ambrosia work fast and efficiently."

"What if it scars?" Azzurra stood up and grabbed a sponge. "Watch this." He whispered as he squeezed water onto her hand. Anastasia watched, fascinated, as the water seeped into her burn, turning the skin of her hand back to normal. "Wow," she whispered. Azzurra smiled, "It's a trick that comes with your fathers' powers."

They sat in silence for a while. “Ares is coming tomorrow.” Anastasia closed her eyes, “Tomorrow?”

“Yes. They are going to be coming non-stop until you have earned all of their blessings. That is why you must rest before and after each training session....I’m sorry.” Anastasia shook her head, “Not your fault,” she laughed, “I just wish I could just have some fun instead of training non-stop.”

He stood up and grabbed her hand, “Come on. Let’s go.” She gave him a puzzled look. “Where?” He gave her that impish smile, “My favorite spot in the ocean.”

“Won’t I get wet?” He laughed, “Blessed by Poseidon, remember?” She blushed, “Oh, yeah. Can I change first?”

He nodded and waited outside her door. She came out wearing jean shorts and a worn, black hoodie. “Ready?” He smiled.

She nodded and took his hand, a genuine smile plastered on her face.

Chapter 9: Comfy On The Reef

Azzurra led her through hall after hall and door after door until they reached a back door, all the way on the other side of the palace. “This is the very back door. It leads straight out into the ocean.” Azzurra opened the door and Anastasia could see fish swimming. “How is the water not rushing in?”

Azzurra stuck his hand through. Anastasia watched with fascination as his hand morphed, like going through a bubble and then he brought it back in; it was cold and wet. “Cool,” Anastasia whispered. “Poseidon’s very own air seal. It surrounds the whole entire palace, in every crack, in every crevice.” He smiled.

“Come on!” He jumped through the doorway. “Wait!” Anastasia laughed as he backstroked away from the door. She stuck one hand through and then jumped. She felt extremely light, but her body was not wet at all. Her hoodie was dry to the touch. She smiled and caught up to Azzurra.

“Your skin!” She exclaimed when she got close. He laughed, lifting his arm so she could get a good look at his green skin. “It changes when we come in contact with water. My people, our skin naturally looks like this, but when we are in air it turns to human skin pigment, allowing us to blend in better.” Anastasia smiled, “I like it when it’s green!” Azzurra laughed.

“Look at this!” he exclaimed and flipped upside down. Anastasia grabbed his foot with a gasp. His toes were thickly webbed in between, mimicking a fish fin or a frog's’ foot. “Incredible!” She ran her hands over the green webbed toes, Azzurra giggled, “That tickles!” Anastasia laughed and dropped his foot. “That was manly!” Azzurra feigned hurt, “Hey!” Anastasia laughed and swam forward, not feeling this free in a long time.

Azzurra caught up to her easily. "Don't push yourself too hard."

She flipped onto her back and laid there, "Tell me about Ares." Anastasia grabbed one of his webbed feet and he kept swimming, pulling her along. "He's mean," his voice was low and filled with loath, "He is harsh and has a large ego. Be careful. He is the god of war and will stoop to low levels. Just...be careful."

Anastasia nodded, "And, Anastasia," she looked at him, "He is not afraid to kill you."

She pierced his eyes with her own, “What did he do to you, Azzurra?”

His jaw started grinding furiously and he looked away from her. “We’re almost there, princess.” Anastasia did not object when he called her that.

They arrived at a beautiful coral reef. Anastasia's’ eyes widened at the myriad of colors and textures on the long branches of coral. Azzurra smiled at her reaction. Anastasia swam around it, observing the fish. She reached out to touch it.

“Woah, careful.” Azzurra grabbed her hand, “It’s a live just like us. You must be gentle.” He placed her hand carefully on the coral. Anastasia closed her eyes as she could feel the breathing of the reef. “If you listen, you can hear it’s heartbeat.” She listened closely and could hear three; hers, the corals, and Azzurras. She realized how close Azzurra was and her heartbeat increased.

“That’s cool.” She broke out of his grasp and moved away a couple feet, a little flustered. Azzurras’ eyebrows knitted but he just went along with it.

"Princess...Princess?" Anastasia looked around.

"Did you-"

"Dolphins." Azzurra smiled. He let out a low whistle and three small dolphins approached them.

"Princess?" One of them came forward and nudged her hand. She looked over at Azzurra who gave her an encouraging smile. "Er, um, yeah." Azzurra stifled a chuckle.

She watched as more and more approached her. “Uh, Azzurra...” He laughed, “You are fine. They just want to see the princess.” He swam out into the middle of the group. Anastasia watched him as he started to play with them. His skin glowed green, his blue hair was floating all around him in a halo, his black tank top billowed with the help of the water, and Anastasia loved his fin like ears. He was laughing and smiling and Anastasias’ heart ached. He’s so beautiful... She shook her head.

She tilted her head as he started whispering to one of the dolphins, his eyes sometimes casting glances at her. He smirked as the dolphin swam up to her. “Oh, hi.” It offered its’ head and she slowly pet it, a little hesitant. It grabbed the sleeve of her hoodie and tugged a little. “Oh! Hey, wait!” Anastasia struggled as it pulled her out to the open water. It released her and she went flying into Azzurra, who was laughing deeply.

She flushed at his nearness before laughing, too. “I love dolphins. They’re such beautiful creatures.” Azzurra ran his hand over one of the sleek creatures back and it made a joyous chattering sound.

The dolphins started nipping and playing with Anastasias’ hoodie. “Hey! Quit!” She giggled. Anastasia started to loosen up and play with them. “Princess, Princess!” They cheered, making her laugh.
Azzurra watched with fascination and amusement. “They like you!” As soon as he finished his sentence, they all started screaming at once. “Why are they screaming?!” The noise was sharp and piercing, like a firecracker was lodged into your ear canal. “I don’t know!” Azzurra swam around, doing his best to calm the beasts, with no luck. Anastasia clutched her head in pain. “Quiet!” She yelled, making the world around them fall silent.

Azzurra looked at her with wide eyes. Anastasia clutched her head, “You,” she pointed at the nearest dolphin, “Tell me what’s wrong. And do not scream.” She rubbed her temples as it swam near.

Child! In net!” Anastasia bent down to it, “Child? The child’s in a net?” The dolphins’ black, marble like eyes looked pleadingly into hers. “Child in net!

“Where? Show me.” The dolphin took off and Anastasia quickly followed. “Princess! Wait!” Azzurra had to swim full force to keep up with her. Azzurra was impressed by how fast she could swim, even for the child of a god. Her face went from over-joyed and relaxed to one that was fierce with determination. Azzurra had never seen anything like it, and he couldn’t help but be impressed.

They reached a cave made of stone, seaweed surrounding it and algae growing on the sides. The dolphin peered into a whole in the side and Anastasia and Azzurra followed it. Anastasia went to lean in, when Azzurra stopped her. “Me first, princess.” Anastasia stifled her glare, but nodded. She hated how he used the fact that she was a “princess” to keep her safe.

Azzurra peered in and his body went slack. There was a child, around the age of seven. He could tell that he was of his kind by his green skin and pointed, fin ears. He was unconscious, tangled in a net and Azzurras’ heart ached for the kid. His jaw tightened and fury flashed in his eyes as he recognized a familiar scar, a round circle with a spear in the middle, burned into the child’s left side.

Memories flooded into his mind and his anger grew. “No!” he screamed, shocking Anastasia. He tried to fit but was too big for the small hole. Anastasia's’ eyes widened as he cried out and began punching the side of the hole, dust and rocks flying. She saw his white knuckles and blood dirty the dusty water and stepped in. “Stop! Stop, Azzurra!”

The look on his face scared Anastasia. His usually kind, mischievous eyes were burning and loathing. “You can’t fit,” she whispered, trying to calm him, “Let me.” She showed him that her waist would fit and he relaxed a little.

“Give me your knife.” He hesitated, “Princess-” She narrowed her eyes at him and interrupted, “Azzurra, I am going to free that child and to do that I need your knife. You can not protect me twenty four seven.” He slowly nodded and handed her the hilt of the sleek weapon.

She put it between her teeth and, using the sides of the opening, pushed herself into the cavern. She used her arms to help her swim down to the bottom, reaching the net. Her eyes softened at the child, skinny and clearly ill. She grabbed the net in one hand and used her other to saw away at the strings, freeing the child.

Throwing him over her shoulder, she put the knife between her teeth and swam to the opening. Azzurra had just grabbed the boy when something grabbed Anastasias’ foot. “Anastasia!” Azzurra screamed as Anastasia was pulled back into the cave, a scream not even able to leave her throat.

That child is mine!” The booming voice echoed off the walls of the cave as Anastasia desperately tried to untangle the rope from her ankle. “The child is property of me! Mighty god of war!” Recognition flashed behind Anastasia’s eyes and then anger. “The child belongs to no one! He is a person just like you and just like me! We are not owned by people!” A booming laugh shook the walls, “Who are you to think so highly of yourself?

Anastasia smiled, “I, my opponent, am Anastasia the Ressurrector! I am going to fight you and I am going to win!”

Silence fell in the room and then, “No matter. I will defeat you tomorrow and then I will take back my property.

“No. You will not. The child is in the kingdom of Poseidon. He is more my property than yours.”

The cave shook and Anastasia knew she hit a nerve. “I will take back the boy!

She took a deep breath, “I will make you a deal,” when she didn’t hear the god object, she continued. “If I win tomorrow the child is mine.”

And if you do not?” She could hear the amusement in his voice and her jaw clenched in frustration.

“Then you can have the child...and me.”

“Anastasia!” Azzurra warned from the opening. Laughter filled the cavern, “Very well, girl. I will gain my trophies tomorrow.

Azzurra gave her the cold shoulder all the way back to the palace.

They gave the young boy to the nurse and Azzurra grabbed Anastasias’ arm and dragged her into her room. “Are you stupid?” Anastasia yanked her arm out of his grip, “Excuse me?!”

Azzurra narrowed his eyes, “You just bet your own life to a god.”

“I am not letting him have that boy. I will win.” Azzurra took a step forward in fury, “You don’t know that! What if you lose?”

Anastasia started walking away, “Why do you care?” Her voice was low and sharp.

Azzurra couldn’t control his fury, “What?!” He grabbed the back of her hoodie and pulled her back. “Who do you think you are?!” Anastasia smacked his hand away and pushed him. “You are my bodyguard and servant! You are to never touch me!”

Azzurras’ arm went slack, and his eyes dulled. Anastasia regretted the words as soon as they left her mouth. “I’m so-” Azzurra shook his head, “No, you are right. I am only your servant. Therefore, I will be leaving.” Anastasia grabbed his hand, “I’m sorry.” Azzurra froze when he heard the sobs in her voice.

Anastasia leaned her head against his back, making his eyes widen. “What if I lose? I don’t care about me...but that poor boy. I treated him like a gamble.” Azzurra closed his eyes, “You treated both of you as a gamble. It was stupid, at the least.” A pang went through Anastasias’ heart, “But, you can win. I have faith in you.”

Anastasia smiled and wrapped both arms around his waist. “Uh, princess,” Azzurras’ face flushed, “This isn’t appropriate.” Anastasia laughed. Azzurra flipped around so he could hug her.

After a couple seconds he went to brake away, but Anastasia still had a grip on him. “Princess, I need to get ready to help with dinner.”

“But you are still holding on to me.” She smirked up at him. He smiled. He started leaning his head closer to hers and her smirk disappeared.

His breath was on her lips when he stopped, “I was playing on doing this at the reef...”

His lips pressed against hers quickly and then tore away. “See you at dinner,” he whispered as he tucked a strand of her white hair behind her ear. She smiled and he left the room.

Chapter 10: Revenge Served Cold

"What did Ares do to you?" Anastasia whispered as they walked, side-by-side, to the now familiar battle field.

Azzurra grind his jaw harshly as he thought of what to say. Finally, he took a shuddering breath that broke Anastasia's heart.

"...You saw the mark on the child, right?" Azzurra looked over at her, melancholy in his eyes.

Anastasia nodded expectantly, "Yes. The mark of Ares, correct?" Azzurra cringed but nodded.

"Ares likes to put that mark on his....'property'." Azzurra hissed the word. Anastasia fought anger, "I figured that...but what does that have to do with you?"

Azzurra averted his eyes as he lifted the hem of his green cotton shirt. Anastasia put her hand over her mouth. Her fingers reached out to trace the familiar scar of a spear in a circle on his left rib cage. Her fingers brushed it and then fell to her side.

Azzurra covered up the mark, “Ares takes Atlanteans every so often...I was taken as a child. Just like the boy,” he took a deep breath, “I ran away when I was ten and Poseidon found me. I have been living and serving him since.”

Anastasia shook her head, “But why would Ares need Atlanteans in the first place? And why doesn’t Poseidon do anything about it?” Her growing frustration was clear.

Azzurra smiled sadly and brushed a piece of bang behind her ear, “Ares likes to use the Atlanteans...well he says ’servants’, but the Atlanteans say ’slaves’. He uses them for whatever he needs them for. Whether to serve him like how I serve your father or to be his rag doll when he is angry.” Azzurra took a deep breath. Anastasia wrapped her hand around his.

He smiled, “Poseidon has fought for it to stop. He has gone to Zeus multiple times to stop Ares, but sadly, Zeus doesn’t want to anger Ares. And if Poseidon challenges Ares, there will be a war. So, we bear it.”

Anastasia walked him to his seat in the bleaches. “Be careful,” he whispered. With a small kiss from him, Anastasia walked down to the arena.

“I will challenge him...” She whispered to herself as she took her stance.

Anastasia cringed at the sound of gunfire, doing her best to see through the thick red fog. She almost wanted to roll her eyes when she saw him: A buzz cut that looked like plastic, rough, black, biker jeans, with a red T-shirt with a leather biker jacket over it. Not to mention, that mean looking pit bull face. She fought the urge to gulp at the large rifle flung lazily over his back and the intense flames in his black eyes.

“I assume our bet is still in place...” Anastasia questioned boredly. She decided to show no emotion, since if she did, her anger would overcome her. What he did to Azzurra and that little boy...No, focus.

Ares laughed, “Yes, child. Now, let’s get this over with. I want my servant back.” Ares saw a flash of anger in her eyes and smiled smugly. Anastasia recomposed herself the best she could. She took deep breaths as a red tint covered her and then quickly dispersed.

He’s sarcastic and smug... “So, what are your mighty powers?” Anastasia perfected it with an eye roll.

“Nice, Anastasia.” Azzurra couldn’t help his smile.

“My powers, child,” Ares snapped, “Are beyond stronger than your infant brain can imagine. I am the god of war, I can crush any person in battle easily.” Anastasia shook her head, “That’s not what I heard.”

The flames in Ares’ eyes crackled as he narrowed them. “What do you mean?”

“I hear that actually, you have been defeated multiple times by your own family members.” Anastasia smiled as his mouth tightened into a stiff frown of anger, “I also heard that you were defeated by Athena, your sister.” She chuckled to herself and could feel the anger rolling off of Ares’ shoulders. “You know what else I heard?” She taunted.

Ares grit his teeth for what to come. “I also heard that you love to cry when you lose.” Anastasia laughed loudly, “Are you a sore loser, little Ares?” Ares was fuming. The aura to kill was nearly suffocating as he glared at the girl, his chest rising and falling in deep, staggering breaths.

Anastasia stood taller and allowed her anger to show in her glare, “Prepare to cry in defeat, Ares.”

Not being able to take it any longer, Ares pulled his rifle off his back. Running as fast as she could, Anastasia did her best to dodge round after round intent on her blood. Azzurra was clutching his seat, “Foul play! She does not have a weapon!” He jumped up.

Ares switched to aiming at him. He was prepared to fire when recognition flashed in his fiery eyes. His murderous smile grew on his fangs, “Well, hello kid.” Anastasia charged him as he lifted up his rifle.

“No!” She screamed. A shot rang as she kicked him, sending him down. She wrestled him for the rifle in his hands. “Azzurra! Azzurra?!” She kept screaming. “I’m okay, Princess!” The shot missed him by a foot, thanks to her kick, and struck the empty seat to his left. Anastasia pushed the rifle against Ares’ chest, “You are a killer! A murder!” Ares pushed on the rifle as hard as he could, sending the butt of the rifle into her temple, sending her backwards. “I am.”

Anastasia cursed as she stood up, Ares’ deep chuckle ringing in her ears. She staggered as Ares took taunting shots at her feet, making her uneasy. I need a weapon, I need a weapon... She repeated to herself over and over. She felt something solidify around her hand and looked down to see her hand in the handle of a golden shield. “Alright...” She whispered.

Ares’ eyes widened at the sudden shield on her arm, “Guess you figured that out...” He mumbled as he grit his teeth. His shots rang as they struck her shield. Anastasia charged him, pushing him back with her shield, determined to get that rifle out of his hands. He pushed her back, sending her on her butt. She had just enough time to put the shield up before his next shot.

She cried out as she threw the shield, it hitting his rifle with a loud screech and a couple sparks before sending the rifle into the arena wall behind them. Ares laughed, “Would you like to play a game of frisbee?”

He lifted his hand and summoned round disks, about the size of a plate, before throwing them at her. What are those?! She thought desperately before dodging one. It struck the arena wall behind her with a small explosion, leaving a design of soot in it’s wake. “Oh...nuts.”

Ares laughed, “Let’s play!” Anastasia did her best to dodge one after another. The god of war laughed as she desperately ran around the field, dodging his bombs. One struck near her feet and sent her flying. She hit the ground with a large thud, before scrambling back up. I need a weapon!

Ares pulled his arm back to throw another when Anastasia snapped her fingers. “Argh!” He grunted as the lightning struck the bomb and caused it to self-destruct on his shoulder, leaving soot on his shoulder and neck. “You little-!” He was interrupted by Anastasia's’ laughter. Azzurra put his hand over his mouth as he chuckled quietly.

Ares grunted and flicked his wrist, making the bomb disks disappear. Anastasia gave him a cold look of amusement. “What? No more frisbee?” Ares gave her a nasty glare and she chuckled, “Aw, it was just getting fun.” Ares charged her. Anastasia dodged him, summoning a long, sleek sword in her hand.

Ares smiled and matched her. His sword was heavily-weighted with a dark black handle and the blade was stained blood red. Anastasias’ sword was beautiful, the handle was white, the blade a beautiful silver that was almost iridescent. She charged and the clang of metal echoed in the arena. Ares pushed back with his sword, Anastasia caught herself before she fell. “If you want my blessing, you need to know how to use multiple weapons.” Ares laughed as he changed his sword into a revolver.

“Whoa!” Anastasia screamed as she dodged the rain of bullets. The arena wall was peppered with bullet holes. Think, think....I need a stronger weapon than his. Anastasia thought desperately for a bigger and stronger weapon. She had an idea and grasped onto it.

“What the...?” Ares mumbled. He harshly pulled the trigger over and over but the familiar clicking signaling that it was jammed rang in the air. He looked up to see Anastasia smiling. Ares snorted and swiped the weapon away, “Nice try, kid.”

“Not finished yet,” She chuckled slightly and snapped her fingers. Ares’ flaming eyes widened as the familiar revolver appeared in her arms, resting against her hip. “Listen up,” She hoisted the gun and aimed it at him.

“I really hate you, I’ll be honest.” Ares took a step back, “What you did to that child and Azzurra was beyond sick,” another step, “Do you honestly believe that I’d allow you to leave with the boy, not to mention, me?” Yet another step, “So, I’ll make you a deal; you back out now and give me your blessing and I won’t make you cry. Do we have a deal? I know you love to gamble...” Ares hit the arena wall.

“You stupid, child.” Ares spat, “You have no right to speak to me like that!” Ares flicked his wrist and a small pistol appeared in his hand. Anastasia was too close, the revolver on her hip too heavy. Her eyes widened as she realized it was too late to move.

One shot rang clear in the arena.

Anastasia!

Chapter 10: Revenge Served Cold Continued

Anastasia screamed and clutched her shoulder. She fought tears as she brought her hand back, blood slicking her fingers. “I’ll kill you!” Azzurra scrambled from his chair, jumping over rows. “No!” Anastasia screamed, her voice shaking. Ares laughed, “You are just a child. Do not think that just because you defeated my father and uncle that you can defeat all of us. I taught you a valuable lesson, kid.” He pushed her out of his way and started walking away.

Anastasia fell on her knees, clutching her shoulder, “Where are you going?” She hissed.

“Kid, you are done! Just give up.” Ares crossed his arms. “No, I won’t give up.” Ares watched her as she slowly got her bearings, “I may not be immortal, I may only be a child, but I already have more guts than you Olympians.” She spat the words as she staggered to her feet, “I will not admit defeat till my last breath. No matter how painful.”

Ares peered into her eyes. The eyes of a fighter. “The Ressurrector.” He whispered. “Yes,” Anastasia took a small step to him, “Do you know what that word means?” When he kept quiet, she kept talking, “It means healer, hero, rescuer. It means that I have to help others till my dying breath. If I have to defeat a cruel person like you to help the ones who need me then,” Anastasia was faced to face with Ares, “By all means...I will.”

Anastasia let her anger take over and attacked him, “I will!” She screamed as she made a kick to his knee. A loud crack filled the arena as she capped him. “Ah!” He fell and clutched his knee. Ares lifted his face as Anastasia lifted her foot. With a scream of anguish, her foot connected with his chin, sending him backwards.

Ares closed his eyes, trying to blink away stars. When he opened his eyes, an angry teenage girl was standing over him and her beautiful sword was biting into his neck, the handle smeared red with her own blood. “I win.” She whispered.

Ares’ jaw locked as she added more force to the blade. She brought her face close to his own, “I want you to stop taking Atlanteans, I want the ones you have now to be freed and I don’t want one word of resistance from you, got me?”

“Yes,” Ares croaked and then stopped from the shooting pain in his throat.

“You lost the bet, the child is mine, I am never to be yours’ and your blessing is mine.” She brought her blade back and Ares coughed, bringing his hand to cover his throat. He snapped his fingers and Anastasia let a tear roll down her cheek as the pain intensified. A blood red streak took refuge in her hair and a fire glowed in her eyes. She had won. The bet, the blessing, and the lives of many Atlanteans.

“Now, get out.” She hissed and Ares snapped his fingers again, exiting the arena.

Anastasia crumbled and painful sobs came from her throat as she let her pain show. “A-Azzurra!” He ran as fast as his feet could carry him. “I’m here, I’m here.” Anastasia clutched to his chest, “My shoulder. My-my shoulder.” Azzurra ripped at the shirt on her shoulder, causing her to let out a scream of pain, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” He whispered as Anastasia fought her cries by biting her lip.

Azzurra let out a breath of air, “The bullet isn’t in your shoulder, it clipped the top. It took a lot of skin, though. Hold on, princess.” He took his shirt off and pressed it into the wound, trying to stop the bleeding. “O-ow!”

Azzurra grabbed her hand and put it on top of the shirt, “You must keep pressing down, we need to stop the bleeding.” Anastasia nodded, tears rolling down her face. Azzurra caught her legs with his arm, lifting her up. As fast as he could, he started walking to the infirmary.

“Azzurra.”

He looked down at her. She looked up at him and smiled, “I freed them. I freed the Atlanteans.” Azzurras’ jaw dropped open and he had wide eyes. Seeing her eyelids flutter snapped him back to reality, “No, no, princess. We’re almost there. You need to keep your hand on your shoulder.” He looked to see his shirt drenched in blood. He cursed and began to run.

Anastasia let her eyes close and the pain end when the nurse began working on her shoulder. “You did amazing,” And Azzurra kissing her forehead was the last thing she experienced, making her smile, before giving into the anesthesia.
