"Of course we can get messages from the spiritual world," đã đưa ý kiến George. "Most of us just don't know we can yet, is all."
Paul had decided to ask George his opinion on the matter of spiritual dream messages, toying with the idea of letting him know what John had told him. George was very into all things spiritual and might know something about dream messages that Paul didn't.
"You don't think, though," Paul checked, "that we could get a message from a dream telling us to do something if we weren't supposed to do it?" Actually, Paul was already sure of this, but it didn't hurt to ask George what he thought about it, too.
George frowned a little. "That would be silly." He looked at Paul curiously, wondering where these các câu hỏi were coming from, but not about to pry if Paul wasn't ready to tell him. Paul considered telling George about his plans, but decided against it. It would sound pretty crazy to say he was thinking of travelling through time to try and bring John back. But if all went well, soon everything would be fixed, and the events of these last three months without John would never have happened anyway.
After his discussion with George, Paul became even thêm convinced he was that he was doing the right thing in trying to go back in time and save John. After all, John might have đã đưa ý kiến that no one was supposed to go back in time, but the fact that he had managed to contact Paul and give him a way to do it proved the opposite was true, didn't it? They had both agreed; John wouldn't have been able to come and tell Paul about this opening in không gian and time if Paul wasn't supposed to use it. And of course John wanted Paul to use it to bring him back - why else would he have bothered to come back just to tell Paul that one particular thing?
March eighteenth arrived, and Paul had carefully made sure he was in Luân Đôn on that day. He didn't want to take a chance with missing the time slot.
"I'm going out for a bit," he told Linda around noon. He wasn't sure how time travel worked exactly, but it should only be for a bit, since most of his time out would be spent in another time, on a completely different day. Paul walked to the Abbey Road crosswalk alone. The place looked the same as usual, causing an unexpected pang in Paul's heart. How he missed that place. Why had they broken up and left all this behind again? Why?
But that train of thought was interrupted when he noticed a small shimmering in the air, just off to the side of the crosswalk, right where John had said. It was very subtle - probably Paul wouldn't have noticed it if he hadn't been looking for it. It looked almost like a heat haze, only a heat haze in March would have been strange enough on its own.
Paul took a step towards the hazy bit. This was it. He was about to go back in time. Maybe even be the first person to ever do it - that was an exciting thought on its own, even without the thought that soon he would have John back again.
Paul was now right in front of the haze, which swirled in the air in front of him. Taking a deep breath, Paul stepped inside.
The haze seemed to consume him, blocking out everything else around him. For something that looked like a heat haze, it was unexpectedly chilly. Paul couldn't see the đường phố, street hoặc hear anything except a vague rushing in his ears. Unsure how this opening-in-space-and-time thing was supposed to work, Paul just concentrated as hard as he could on his destination. 1980, December 8. 1980, December 8. Preferably the morning - he might need time to get to New York and find John. He had no idea where he was going to land. All his concentration was focused on getting to the right day.
The haze continued to swirl, and Paul had no idea if he had done this right hoặc anything. Then the mist cleared, and he found himself standing in his own kitchen.

RINGO'S POINT OF VIEW

November 29th, 2001

The ngày I Mất tích the tình yêu of my life. Forever.

One of the last times I saw him was July. My daughter had brain surgery and I could't stay long. "Do bạn want me to come with you?" George offered. "What? No, bạn can't. You've got to stay here and get rid of the cancer." I can't believe I đã đưa ý kiến a thing like that. "So? I've missed you. I don't want bạn to have to leave me." I was most likely blushing when he grabbed my hand.

"Ritchie, I need to tell bạn something." He sat up. I got scared and just walked out. That was a mistake. Me, George, and Paul went out...

John, George, and Ringo never left Paul's side, and they stayed outside the hospital room, not talking, but able to feel each others' anxious feelings about their friend. Paul hadn't woken up on the way to the hospital, but there was still a pulse, and now all they could do was hope he'd be all right.
John had something else to think about, too. Even when Paul had been on the edge of losing consciousness, he had still đã đưa ý kiến to John: "Does this mean we're not breaking up?" Was the Beatles staying together really so important to him? Hadn't Paul spent the last couple of years trying to control...

John, George, and Ringo spent the rest of the ngày running everywhere in town, searching for Paul. They caused quite a stir. Not many people saw the Beatles together in public anymore - even only three of them. People poured out of their houses, and everywhere the Beatles went, they were surrounded with screams and questions: "EEE! The Beatles are back!" "Are bạn going to play for us again?" "Where's Paul? How come there's only three of you?" It had never occured to John, George, hoặc Ringo how much the những người hâm mộ had missed actually seeing them perform. But everyone they met seemed to feel that, now...

As soon as Paul opened his eyes the tiếp theo day, he knew something had changed. The air had been bitterly cold last night, but Paul had just lay there, unable to get up and find somewhere thêm sheltered.
Now, he tried to di chuyển his arms and to sit up. He couldn't.
Frowning, Paul tried to di chuyển again. And again. His body wouldn't respond. Something had happened to him after all those nights of lying there in the cold. His body wasn't working properly.
Paul's eyes, the only part of him that could still move, widened in fear. When he first decided to run away, he had never thought of this! What would happen...

John, George, and Ringo, of course, couldn't have ignored Paul's disappearance even if they'd wanted to. All ngày long, the rumours flowed. Everybody knew Paul was missing, and everybody had their theories - some thêm believable than others - but no one really seemed to know where he'd gone.
All this would have suited Paul just fine. His first ngày in the forest was ending, and he was sure he was well hidden enough that no one could find him before his mates came looking. It was sheltered in the trees, but there was still a lot of powder on the ground. As night fell and Paul wandered along, looking...

It was late at night, but Paul couldn't sleep. That day's recording session hadn't gone very well, just like all the others recently. Paul had just spent the last week screaming his lungs out practicing to record his new song Oh! Darling, and that was the only reason he hadn't joined in all the fighting today, because his voice was so strained he could barely talk. John, George, and Ringo had still managed to carry on fighting without him, and Paul dreaded the ngày when one of them would decide that the Beatles shouldn't be together anymore.
That couldn't happen. The Beatles were Paul's life....
