This movie was good, but not great. It met my expectations, but did not exceed them much. It was a fun, tim, trái tim warming movie, but it didn't carry it out well enough to make me leave the theater and think "Whoa, that was just amazing". I think the negative reviews of this movie made it sound a lot worse than it was. Also it's good to consider that this a movie about Penguins, the side characters from Madagascar, not Penguins, the well-developed characters of the TV show. I think if they made a movie based off of the hiển thị hoặc if this movie was longer, it would've turned out much better, but nonetheless, I did like this movie as it is.
Complaints:
-Kowalski and Eva's relationship felt very forced. They had minimum screen time/lines together. To pull off the whole "love at first sight" thing, bạn need to hiển thị them interacting with each other for thêm than 3 hoặc 4 short, short moments.
-They played the whole mutant penguins thing a bit too safe. They weren't really scary hoặc hideous, but silly. I guess it was because this movie was aimed at a younger audience, but it would've been better if they made them look a bit thêm scary, instead of some thing bạn threw together on photoshop. I didn't like the idea of it much.I think it would've been better if Dave did something else (even if it was destroying the penguins directly), Private sacrificed himself and stopped Dave, and got hurt instead of sprouting antlers. It would've made the heartwarming-ness even stronger. But what they did was thêm original, I guess?
-Rico and Kowalski were just there in the movie. Yes, they did part take in the action and did things to benefit the plan, but we hardly got any development in these guys.
-I can't exactly explain why, but this movie just felt overdone.
-They contradicted their moral of "Looks don't matter" a bit.
-The beginning bit of the "I hate this song" thing was a bit poorly carried out, in my opinion.
What I like/love:
-Private and Skipper's relationship was shown at it's best. I've always ADORED seeing their relationship develop and this movie did a good job. They had some really feel-y moments between them.
-The comedy wasn't as corny as I thought it would be. They had some really clever jokes in there.
-They referenced the hiển thị and a bunch of other fun things
-The animation/scenery was BEAUTIFUL. Shanghai is one of my yêu thích cities, architecture wise and seeing the beautiful, beautiful buildings of it captured wonderfully in phim hoạt hình was just perfect.
-Private is the Jesus of this movie and it fits so wonderfully
-The backstory introduction is perfect and I consider it my yêu thích scene of the whole film.
-The lemurs had one scene and thank god they didn't over do it. Their involvement was well balanced, something I think the hiển thị didn't do a good job of.
-North Wind's involvement was pretty balanced. Sometimes, I wish we saw thêm of them, especially Corporal (he really needed thêm development) and Short Fuse.
-Dave's fate in the movie is pretty darn hilarious and cute.
-And once again, the Skipper and Private moments were so cute ;3;
I definitely think Big Hero 6 is much better. If you're stuck between the 2, I'd recommend Big Hero 6. But PoM certainly did fill my PoM craving soul. I hope some ngày they do a movie based off the TV hiển thị and I think McGrath would be a great director for it (which is another theory I have of why it didn't fulfill its potential).
Overall, this movie has it's ups and downs but I think any PoM/Madagascar người hâm mộ would like it a lot.
