As time passed since Shadow's passing, Janis got something she had been waiting for, the results from Shadow and Juneau's DNA tests. The test kits arrived when everything was still all right. She didn't order one for Stevie, because Stevie's original owner had papers to prove she was a Staffordshire bò đực, con bò, bull Terrier. He had to give her up, because he was moving to a place that didn't allow dogs. Again, that's another story. Where Shadow and Juneau were both rescues, Janis wasn't sure if they were purebred dogs. She read the results, and she learned that Shadow was a purebred Rottweiler. She also learned that Juneau was a purebred Siberian Husky. Janis later talked with her friends. She said, "I know that Shadow was a purebred Rottweiler. I figured that he was. He looked like one. He acted like one." Simon said, "Still, whether he was purebred hoặc not, he was special to you." She said, "Of course he was! He was a wonderful dog. I'll never forget him." Kelsey asked, "Will bạn be getting a new dog?" Janis said, "I will get a new dog some day, but I want to grieve Shadow a little longer. I also want to give Stevie and Juneau thêm time. One day, I'll go to a rescue center, find a dog that needs a home, and bring him hoặc her trang chủ with me." She smiled at the thought. Although the chó she had Mất tích in the past few years were special to her, she knew that her tiếp theo dog would be special in his hoặc her own way. In the late spring, she went to a rescue center and found a red and white Siberian Husky puppy. His name was Aspen, which happens to be the name of a town in the state of Colorado. She introduced her new dog to Stevie and Juneau, and they got along very well. All was well once again.

When I got a little older, the mean nicknames started to fly. In the third grade, I got called chicken legs a lot. I don't know why. Chickens don't have long legs like mine, the last time I checked. Every time I'd walk through the hallways, someone would shout, "There goes chicken legs." I would remind them, "My name is not chicken legs. It's Winter." bởi the time spring came, I was so tired of being called chicken legs. One day, one of my classmates said, "Hey, chicken legs!" I said, "That's better than what bạn are." He said, "Oh, really? What am I?" I said, "You're a horse's ass." He didn't...

I was once asked, "If bạn could compare yourself to a literary character, who do bạn think you'd be?" I đã đưa ý kiến that I see myself as the Ugly Duckling. I started out as a complete outcast, and I blossomed into a beautiful swan. This is a metaphor, of course. This is how my story goes. I was raised bởi my aunt and uncle. I never really knew my parents, as I Mất tích them at a young age. I was lucky that they took me in. If not for them, I would have been dumped in a orphanage. I knew that they loved me, but getting everyone else to like me was harder. The other kids picked on me all the time. I don't...

Today was the last full ngày of school. We had our annual awards ceremony today. Some of my Những người bạn got awards for highest average in certain subjects. I didn't expect to get one. I wouldn't have minded if I didn't. But I did! I got the Model Citizen Award. Apparently, many of my fellow students đã đưa ý kiến some good things about me. After school, I told John about it. He wanted to come, but he was out of town preparing for a buổi hòa nhạc with his band. He said, "I'm happy for you, Grace! bạn deserve it." I said, "Really?" He said, "Yes, really. Today was Good Friday. We got a ngày off from school. I was walking down the đường phố, street with John, and I saw Kimberly, the girl who betrayed me. I kept my head down, hoping she wouldn't notice me, but she did. She said, "Hey, Grace!" I said, "Hey, Judas!" John said, "Oh, so, that's the girl who stabbed bạn in the back." I nodded. She said, "You're not still sore at me, are you, Grace?" I said, "I forgive, but I never forget." Suddenly, John stuck it to her. He said, "How dare bạn do this thing to Grace! She had been nothing but nice to her, and bạn took her tim, trái tim and ripped it into...

I'm all better now. I can speak clearly. I am caught up with my school work. I talked with John today. He said, "I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm actually sick myself." I said, "Oh, no! What's wrong?" He said, "It's just a cold. I'm sure I'll be fine in a few days." I said, "I hope bạn feel better." He said, "Thank you. The worst part is not being able to go to the recording studio with my mates. I hate that I can't do that. They told me that they won't go if I don't. I said, 'No, it's fine. I'll introduce my songs when I come back.' Allen said, 'Take care of yourself, John....

I am sick again. This time, I have laryngitis. I cannot talk at all. I can only communicate through text messages. John came bởi the house. My aunt told him that I was sick. He came into my bedroom. I was excited to see him, and I tried to talk with him, but I couldn't get any words out. He said, "You don't have to talk, Grace. Just listen." I sat up. He said, "I brought bạn a little present." He reached in his bag and handed me a teddy bear. He said, "My grandmother made if for me when I was five years old." I texted, "John, I can't take this. It's something your grandmother made...

I am so happy that our house has been rebuilt. We settled in just a few weeks ago. Things have been crazy, which explains why I haven't written anything in a while. They've calmed down, thankfully. I am thirteen now. Today was my thirteenth birthday. It was so much better than my twelfth birthday. There was really only one bad part about my birthday. I was browsing the Internet, and I read that Peter from The Devil Wants Peace was in a car crash. I called John to see if it was true hoặc if it was just a nasty rumor. I said, "John, I read that Peter was in a car crash. Is it true?"...

We are now in a new year. School started again today. My schoolmates have been flocking to me, asking me các câu hỏi about losing my trang chủ in a fire. It became a game of a thousand questions. The one câu hỏi that most of them didn't ask: Are bạn okay? I became fed up with it. Michael later found me sitting in the lunchroom alone. He said, "Hey. Are bạn okay?" I said, "You know, you're the only the third person to ask me that." He said, "Really?" I said, "Yeah. I had to get away from all the questions. It was a terrifying experience." Even though it is Christmas, things have not exactly been jolly for us. A few weeks ago, our giáng sinh lights had burned our house down. My aunt and uncle escaped unharmed, but I got trapped. I saw a firefighter coming to my rescue, and before I fell unconscious, I said, "Please help me." When I woke up, I was in the hospital. The doctor said, "It's good that you're awake now." I asked if my aunt and uncle were okay. The doctor said, "They're fine. They're in the waiting room right now. bạn gave them quite a scare, young lady." I said, "I'm not going to die, am I?" Today was Thanksgiving, (for the United States). Thanksgiving has always been my yêu thích holiday. It is a time to get together with the family without the pressure of buying gifts for them, and I like food. I helped a bit with preparing the dinner, but I mostly set the table. Grandma didn't want me to burn myself. It's happened in the past. Anyway, John managed to find his way. Whenever we would sit at the table, we would all say what we are thankful for before eating the food. We allowed John to go first, since he was new to the family. He said, "I'm thankful for my band...

I've been having quite a weekend so far. Yesterday, after school, my aunt and uncle noticed that I was still feeling a little down. They decided to take me to a hiking trail, since I enjoy nature. Everything was going well, but suddenly, I got separated from them bởi mistake. I tried to go back the way I came, but there were so many twists and turns, and I became increasingly confused. Pretty soon, I came across a log cabin. I đã đưa ý kiến to myself, "I wonder if anyone lives there. Maybe I can get some help." I knocked on the door, but the only answer was a barking dog. Her friend said, "I don't understand why you're Những người bạn with Grace. She's just, I don't know, so dorky." I didn't like that, but I kept quiet to see where it was going. Kimberly said, "I'm not Những người bạn with Grace, Isabella!" My eyes widened. She wasn't Những người bạn with me? Was she denying our friendship out of fear? I am feeling much better today. I don't feel great, but I feel much better than I did a few days ago. I was able to go to school today. Michael, Sabrina, and Bridget helped me get caught up in my classes. I'm lucky to have such good friends. Of course, I did feel a bit tired after finishing my homework. I took a nap for a while. When I woke up, it was almost 6:00 pm. I didn't realize I had slept that long. When bữa tối, bữa ăn tối time came, I ate really well. I didn't feel like eating much for the past couple of days. I missed school today, because I am sick. I picked up an upper respiratory infection as a result of my allergies to ragweed. It's the only thing I'm allergic to. Of course, of all things to be allergic to, I had to be allergic to something that's hard to avoid. I mean, ragweed pollen blooms in late August and spreads around from early September to the middle of November. How does one avoid that? Anyway, I started feeling bad yesterday, and last night, my aunt took me to the emergency room, because I had a terrible cough and sounded extremely hoarse. She said, "You could've...

Summer Vacation has been great so far. While I've been enjoying school thêm since I've gained a couple of friends, it's nice to have a break from it. I also received some exciting news. On July 9, I am going to be in Chicago to see The Devil Wants Peace in concert! I was so excited when my uncle told me he was able to afford the tickets. I later told my friend, Michael, "You should have seen me when my uncle told me the good news. I was jumping up and down, crying tears of joy." Normally, I'm not that excitable, but The Devil Wants Peace is one of my yêu thích bands. Since I was six, I dreamed of seeing them live, and now, I can stop dreaming. This dream is becoming a reality. I don't know if I'll be lucky enough to meet them, but the fact that I'm lucky enough to see them is great.
