I don't think it works, because by including Eclaire and with the ending they had, it kind of doesn't work if the host club disbands again, because it would make it boring. Tamaki in a way has already rejected Haruhi in episode 25, so if they make him reject her temporarily again, that would be boring as well.

I suppose it would be fun to see Kaoru, Hikaru and Tamaki fight for Haruhi, but even that's just a side story. They took out 50% of the manga storyline and fitted it in episode 25 and 26, so it kind of doesn't work if they try to follow that storyline, since it already happened in Season 1.
